**** right off!! Although saying that, he found his level in the Dutch Premier League (arguably League 1 standard) but I'm not sure if can be doing with Saints being the laughing stock of English football...If we weren't already.

He won the league with FC Twente, that's a huge achievement.

 

Laughable that one unfortunate stint as England manager and suddenly he's the worst manager ever.

He did well at Middlesborough TBF, but then failed miserably at England.

 

And considering some few on here believed the mighty saints could take on and perhaps beat England (lol) then i don't think he is good enough.

It's obviously not going to be McClaren, but seriously he would be a fantastic appointment. More chance of getting MoN than McClaren.

After waking up to a text from the old man telling me about Pardew being sacked I decided to come on here. Strangely of all the threads started I felt compelled to open this one first. In Dog we trust! If he appoints McClown then it's the right move for me...

Great manager and would fit in, although cant see him coming to us.

 

He was poor for England due to the players lacking respect or even giving him the support, since then he has done very very well.

I would not like it to be McClaren frankly - I just don't think he would have what it takes to get us out of L1. Plus he talks rubbish.

 

Why??!! He won the league in Holland took Middlesborough to the UEFA Cup final and won the League Cup, yet not good enough for league one! I cant believe people are turning their nose up at the likes of Zola and McClaren, we are a league One Club FFS, some of you are mental!!!

He didn't do a good job at Boro they had 3-4 mediocre 10th-16th placed finishes after he spunked millions. He was also crap for England - but granted he did do very well at Twente.

 

He would have zero reason to come here.

Would you take 3-4 mid table Premier League finishes a League Cup win and a UEFA cup final over a 4 year period? IMO for a club like Boro, that is a pretty decent return. You cant critise his record at INTERNATIONAL LEVEL as a reason for him to be a top League One manager FFS!! Not for one minute do i think he would be interested in the job mind.

Hold on a minute, where did I use his crap international record as a reason for not wanting him? infact where did i say I wouldnt welcome him? I was just disagreeing that he did a fantastic job at Boro - given the resources that were made available to him he did a very average job, yes they won the league cup against the might of Bolton, and yes they got to the europa league final - but they got completely humilated when Sevilla thrashed them. You say for a club like Boro mid table finishes with a couple of cup finals is a good return, but boro werent like what Saints were when we were in the prem with limited resource - Mclaren spunked Millions on dross , Maccarone to name one, and the boro fans on the whole were glad to get shot of him.

 

However he did do a great job in Holland and for that reason my opinion on him has changed, but like you said theres no chance he'll want to come here.

He may have made a few duff signings, which managers dont but on the whole he did a decent job there. Midtable finishes and two cup finals for a club like Middlesborough is a decent return. In fact i believe their League cup win was their first every trophy was it not? Yes they were beaten by Sevilla, a very very good side, i remember one or two other English clubs being well beaten by Spainish sides over the past few years too. Two years UEFA cup qualification and a couple of FA Semi finals throw in there as well?

2006-07 Prem 12th

 

A 7th place in there, better than Saints have ever done in the PL and better than the supposed genius Harry Redknapp did with the Skates despite all the millions he spent. I dont know what these clubs expect. Clubs like Boro should only ever expect midtable, anything higher is them punching above their weight. I think give the above he did a bloody decent job. It's a pointless discussion anyway as he wont be the next Saints manger.

Jeez, get a grip. Why would he even consider coming to English Div 3 team when all is going so well for him?
