Dog Posted 30 August, 2010 Posted 30 August, 2010 (edited) but, our new manager will be introduced on wednesday at 14:00hrs. His name is................ Steven McClaren. Don't shoot the highly reliable messenger! Edited 30 August, 2010 by Dog
nathan Posted 30 August, 2010 Posted 30 August, 2010 Obviously, don't know what your source is, but hasn't he only just joined Wolfsburg?
Huffton Posted 30 August, 2010 Posted 30 August, 2010 Noooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo
Smirking_Saint Posted 30 August, 2010 Posted 30 August, 2010 Dog..................I don't know what to do here, whether to respond sarcastically or sensibly.
itchen_dan Posted 30 August, 2010 Posted 30 August, 2010 Can't see it being McClaren, only joined Wolfsburg in the summer. Please be wrong...
skintsaint Posted 30 August, 2010 Posted 30 August, 2010 cant see it somehow...more chance of O'Neill...
yamms_schmitz Posted 30 August, 2010 Posted 30 August, 2010 Sky bet are not even offering odds for Steve McClaren.
Thorpe-le-Saint Posted 30 August, 2010 Posted 30 August, 2010 **** right off!! Although saying that, he found his level in the Dutch Premier League (arguably League 1 standard) but I'm not sure if can be doing with Saints being the laughing stock of English football...If we weren't already.
Andy_Porter Posted 30 August, 2010 Posted 30 August, 2010 It's obviously not going to be McClaren, but seriously he would be a fantastic appointment. More chance of getting MoN than McClaren.
saintscottofthenortham Posted 30 August, 2010 Posted 30 August, 2010 Obviously, don't know what your source is, but hasn't he only just joined Wolfsburg? Yes he has. Like... Literally, ONLY JUST. Anyone got any toilet roll? Stinks of BS round here.

He won the league with FC Twente, that's a huge achievement. Laughable that one unfortunate stint as England manager and suddenly he's the worst manager ever.
Smirking_Saint Posted 30 August, 2010 Posted 30 August, 2010 He did well at Middlesborough TBF, but then failed miserably at England. And considering some few on here believed the mighty saints could take on and perhaps beat England (lol) then i don't think he is good enough.
Saint Charlie Posted 30 August, 2010 Posted 30 August, 2010 He would probably do a decent job but obviously a wind up as he has only just joined Wolsburg. Whats the point of threads like this?
Dibden Purlieu Saint Posted 30 August, 2010 Posted 30 August, 2010 Can't see it happening but would be a BRILLIANT appointment. Very, very under-rated manager.
MarkSFC Posted 30 August, 2010 Posted 30 August, 2010 new marketing opportunity...buy an umbrella..get a free coffee
saint_bert Posted 30 August, 2010 Posted 30 August, 2010 It's obviously not going to be McClaren, but seriously he would be a fantastic appointment. More chance of getting MoN than McClaren. Was just going to say, whatever hes failings with England, he would be a fantastic appointment. UEFA cup finalist, Dutch title winner. Yesh please. Wont happen, although if it does, I see Dezko as the perfect foil for Lambert
Crab Lungs Posted 30 August, 2010 Posted 30 August, 2010 Will he be speaking in Hampshire Hog or Urban Chav during his press conference?
alpine_saint Posted 30 August, 2010 Posted 30 August, 2010 Obviously, don't know what your source is, but hasn't he only just joined Wolfsburg? Yep. This is total b*ll*cks.
Brussels Saint Posted 30 August, 2010 Posted 30 August, 2010 Dog you are nuts if you think we could get him. Won the Dutch league last year, which is a standard way above L1 and since went to the German champions. That is not a poor manager.
Scudamore Posted 30 August, 2010 Posted 30 August, 2010 After waking up to a text from the old man telling me about Pardew being sacked I decided to come on here. Strangely of all the threads started I felt compelled to open this one first. In Dog we trust! If he appoints McClown then it's the right move for me...
saintbenny Posted 30 August, 2010 Posted 30 August, 2010 this will neve happen....but if it did it would be an unbelievable appiontment. McClaren is a hugely underated manager
saintjinksie Posted 30 August, 2010 Posted 30 August, 2010 http://www.betting-directory.com/sports-betting-article2163.html zola the favourite? he is italian i suppose...
Faz Posted 30 August, 2010 Posted 30 August, 2010 The question is, would he suddenly start affecting an 'Ampshire accent. Mush.
dune Posted 30 August, 2010 Posted 30 August, 2010 I mentioned Steve McClaren before this. He would be an excellent choice.
Joesaint Posted 30 August, 2010 Posted 30 August, 2010 Great manager and would fit in, although cant see him coming to us. He was poor for England due to the players lacking respect or even giving him the support, since then he has done very very well.
Saint Fan CaM Posted 30 August, 2010 Posted 30 August, 2010 I would not like it to be McClaren frankly - I just don't think he would have what it takes to get us out of L1. Plus he talks rubbish.
Turkish Posted 30 August, 2010 Posted 30 August, 2010 I would not like it to be McClaren frankly - I just don't think he would have what it takes to get us out of L1. Plus he talks rubbish. Why??!! He won the league in Holland took Middlesborough to the UEFA Cup final and won the League Cup, yet not good enough for league one! I cant believe people are turning their nose up at the likes of Zola and McClaren, we are a league One Club FFS, some of you are mental!!!
LostBoys Posted 30 August, 2010 Posted 30 August, 2010 I do not think so - he has just joined Wolfsburg. I think it is Martin O'Neill
S-Clarke Posted 30 August, 2010 Posted 30 August, 2010 If we get McClaren i hope he keeps his dutch accent
Colbury Posted 30 August, 2010 Posted 30 August, 2010 He didn't do a good job at Boro they had 3-4 mediocre 10th-16th placed finishes after he spunked millions. He was also crap for England - but granted he did do very well at Twente. He would have zero reason to come here.

Would you take 3-4 mid table Premier League finishes a League Cup win and a UEFA cup final over a 4 year period? IMO for a club like Boro, that is a pretty decent return. You cant critise his record at INTERNATIONAL LEVEL as a reason for him to be a top League One manager FFS!! Not for one minute do i think he would be interested in the job mind.
Sussex Saint Posted 30 August, 2010 Posted 30 August, 2010 Is this some kind of sick joke.? Shame on you Dog..
jjsaint Posted 30 August, 2010 Posted 30 August, 2010 It won't be McClaren, and more's the pity. He was out of his depth for England but has been decent otherwise.

Hold on a minute, where did I use his crap international record as a reason for not wanting him? infact where did i say I wouldnt welcome him? I was just disagreeing that he did a fantastic job at Boro - given the resources that were made available to him he did a very average job, yes they won the league cup against the might of Bolton, and yes they got to the europa league final - but they got completely humilated when Sevilla thrashed them. You say for a club like Boro mid table finishes with a couple of cup finals is a good return, but boro werent like what Saints were when we were in the prem with limited resource - Mclaren spunked Millions on dross , Maccarone to name one, and the boro fans on the whole were glad to get shot of him. However he did do a great job in Holland and for that reason my opinion on him has changed, but like you said theres no chance he'll want to come here.

He may have made a few duff signings, which managers dont but on the whole he did a decent job there. Midtable finishes and two cup finals for a club like Middlesborough is a decent return. In fact i believe their League cup win was their first every trophy was it not? Yes they were beaten by Sevilla, a very very good side, i remember one or two other English clubs being well beaten by Spainish sides over the past few years too. Two years UEFA cup qualification and a couple of FA Semi finals throw in there as well? This is his league record. 2001-02 Prem 12th 2002-03 Prem 11th 2003-04 Prem 11th 2004-05 Prem 7th 2005-06 Prem 14th 2006-07 Prem 12th A 7th place in there, better than Saints have ever done in the PL and better than the supposed genius Harry Redknapp did with the Skates despite all the millions he spent. I dont know what these clubs expect. Clubs like Boro should only ever expect midtable, anything higher is them punching above their weight. I think give the above he did a bloody decent job. It's a pointless discussion anyway as he wont be the next Saints manger.
Dark Munster Posted 30 August, 2010 Posted 30 August, 2010 If we get McClaren i hope he keeps his dutch accent Yep, those Dutch manager accents worked really well previously for us (twice).
Micky Posted 30 August, 2010 Posted 30 August, 2010 I take it the Dog has been on the waccybaccy again.
saintds Posted 30 August, 2010 Posted 30 August, 2010 Jeez, get a grip. Why would he even consider coming to English Div 3 team when all is going so well for him? Mods, treat this thread with the respect it deserves and lock its arse!
