S-Clarke Posted 2 September, 2010 Posted 2 September, 2010 are we being taken over by Paul Allen again?
Deppo Posted 2 September, 2010 Posted 2 September, 2010 You have a PM Thanks. I like your hair in the photo.
Kenilworthy Posted 2 September, 2010 Posted 2 September, 2010 If MON really wants to follow the same path as his mentor Brian Clough then that must include dropping down the divisions to earn a lot of money managing a south coast club funded by an ambitious owner. And then leaving after a few months including a home thrashing by Bristol Rovers.
brmbrm Posted 2 September, 2010 Posted 2 September, 2010 I HATE win percentages. Is there a worse form of evidence in football argument? They do it in the papers too. I can only assume this means winning the conference is better than coming mid-table in the premiership. Although to counter that, mid-table with chelsea would be awful, while winning the conference with eastleigh would be very good. Liverpool won more than fulham last season. One had a great season, one had an awful one. Win ratios are just for people who can't comprehend there are different leagues, fixtures, squads, expectations, resources and so on. Oh yes indeed: percentage of possesion, which means total zero, not even points. Then come shots on goal/off goal. Last season Chelsea away stuffed some team 4-0 i think, yet those stats had then down as less of the play and about one third of the goal attempts. the fact that they just won the ball and passed it into the opponents net doesn't count: ******ing around with the ball for 5 minutes then shooting into row Z seems to count for more.
St_Tel49 Posted 2 September, 2010 Posted 2 September, 2010 OK - its nothing too ITK but to avoid a million PMs: Someone I know was talking to Gus Poyet when the conversation turned to Saints. Referring to the quality of our squad GP said that if he managed saints he would not take his years salary if he could not get us promoted. It was not a pitch for the job - simply a comment on how he viewed our squad. That said we could do a lot worse than him but I doubt if he would leave Brighton.

That was put on this thread like ages ago.... EDIT: BY YOU FFS! Unlikely to happen I know, but I think that Gus Poyet could tick a lot of boxes from NC's point of view. I have also heard that he said that if he were managing Southampton he wouldn't take his salary if we were not promoted. He was not angling for the job - more commenting on the circumstances. If nothing else it further underlines how far we have come in little over a year.
St_Tel49 Posted 2 September, 2010 Posted 2 September, 2010 That was put on this thread like ages ago.... EDIT: BY YOU FFS! I know, I know, but Deppo asked me where I had heard it. I PMed him a reply and suddenly everyone wanted one. So I reiterated a little more exactly how I had heard it. Sorry it upset you
the saint in winchester Posted 2 September, 2010 Posted 2 September, 2010 I'd like a PM - about anything. I've never had one .. never.
SB Posted 2 September, 2010 Posted 2 September, 2010 Boring. Would of thought NC would have had someone lined up straight away As I'm guessing AP sacking wasn't a quick fire decision, my instinct points to the x Bristol city manager.
Trader Posted 2 September, 2010 Posted 2 September, 2010 If it's to be Zola - pleeeease bring your boots with you. Replace Hammond and you could be captain and manager. Would still be amazing in this league.
Crab Lungs Posted 2 September, 2010 Posted 2 September, 2010 I leave the country in, like, a couple of hours so would obviously like a PM to set me on my way
Saint George Posted 2 September, 2010 Posted 2 September, 2010 I'd like a PM - about anything. I've never had one .. never. There was a time when you only had to say something negative about the Saints Trust to get a PM or two...in fact it would bring every butcher, baker and candlestick maker out of the woodwork....Hell, you could even get infractions pm'd to you for that too.....I'm sure the first Ted Bates statue was designed and approved by pm.
SuperMikey Posted 2 September, 2010 Posted 2 September, 2010 If it's to be Zola - pleeeease bring your boots with you. Replace Hammond and you could be captain and manager. Would still be amazing in this league. I remember reading an interview with some West Ham player a few weeks after Zola took over, talking about how things were going. Apparently if Zola joined them for training, he would run rings around all of the players and quite often the squad would just stand and watch him in awe of his technique and skills. The player remarked that Zola was probably still as technically gifted than most 'quality' Premiership players!
Seany S Posted 2 September, 2010 Posted 2 September, 2010 I leave the country in, like, a couple of hours so would obviously like a PM to set me on my way Are you flying out to seal the Bruno Metsu deal for Nicola?
SaintRichmond Posted 2 September, 2010 Posted 2 September, 2010 Boring. I was wondering that too. It seems strange that someone who has lived and breathed Football all his life could suddenly not care a toss about it He should have been appointed before Pardew IMHO, I think he would be the one to please most Saints Fans
Crab Lungs Posted 2 September, 2010 Posted 2 September, 2010 Are you flying out to seal the Bruno Metsu deal for Nicola? LOL, someone who recalled the distant but oh so memorable past! Sadly not... I wish I was though

JackFrost Posted 2 September, 2010 Posted 2 September, 2010 What and resigned 2 games into the season! and has since retired from all football management
manji Posted 2 September, 2010 Posted 2 September, 2010 LOL, someone who recalled the distant but oh so memorable past! Sadly not... I wish I was though I've already put Troussier in the mix........although there was little interest.
SNSUN Posted 2 September, 2010 Posted 2 September, 2010 I'd like a PM - about anything. I've never had one .. never.Shame you missed the Master Bates pm's back in the day. They were stuff of legend. Sigh, simpler times.
seaempty Posted 2 September, 2010 Posted 2 September, 2010 Seems a bit of money has gone onto Nigel Adkins of late (SkyBet). Don't recall his odds being that low.
manji Posted 2 September, 2010 Posted 2 September, 2010 Didnt realise until this morning that Poyet toyed with idea of leaving Brighton for Swansea as recently as July so surely he would jump at the chance of managing us ?
hypochondriac Posted 2 September, 2010 Posted 2 September, 2010 Shame you missed the Master Bates pm's back in the day. They were stuff of legend. Sigh, simpler times. I have a bewb shaped hole in my heart for those days.
buctootim Posted 2 September, 2010 Posted 2 September, 2010 (edited) Seems a bit of money has gone onto Nigel Adkins of late (SkyBet). Don't recall his odds being that low. Nice story. I wonder how he would fare with us. http://www.guardian.co.uk/football/blog/2010/jan/26/nigel-adkins-s****horpe-united Edited 2 September, 2010 by buctootim
SaintRichmond Posted 2 September, 2010 Posted 2 September, 2010 What and resigned 2 games into the season! The question to ask is WHY did he resign after only two games ??? I really do not believe that he got disallusioned and/or fell out of love with Football
shurlock Posted 2 September, 2010 Posted 2 September, 2010 Nice story. I wonder how he would fare with us. http://www.guardian.co.uk/football/blog/2010/jan/26/nigel-adkins-s****horpe-united From the same article: "Pardew has always appeared to like himself rather too much for some tastes but the former Reading and West Ham United manager deserves considerable credit right now".
altoniansaints Posted 2 September, 2010 Posted 2 September, 2010 SSN "southampton captain coming up talking about reports that a players revolt forced out AP"

Dr Who? Posted 2 September, 2010 Posted 2 September, 2010 Got SSN on now, has it been on as I do not want to listen to the gipsy that is currently talking crap!
Dr Who? Posted 2 September, 2010 Posted 2 September, 2010 ha ha ha, is everyone glues to SSN? I bet it will be an interview for about 20 seconds and will just rubbish the romours. Need a tumble weed for in here at the moment. Do not think it is going to give us to much to go on!!
Dr Who? Posted 2 September, 2010 Posted 2 September, 2010 He better not get the job.... the cheap option! Hold on tight then long wait!
altoniansaints Posted 2 September, 2010 Posted 2 September, 2010 Nothing new really, Hammond denies player unrest, Wilkins prepared to remain caretaker as long as needed and NC says we`ll take as long as needed
Tractor_Saint Posted 2 September, 2010 Posted 2 September, 2010 Got SSN on now, has it been on as I do not want to listen to the gipsy that is currently talking crap! Last time the tip about "It's on SSN in a minute" that minute lasted about 18 hours or so. I've turned over (OK, but the laptop is showing SSN via Sky Player )
trousers Posted 2 September, 2010 Posted 2 September, 2010 Anyone got a link to an Online stream of sky sports news that'll work on the iPhone? Cheers
Tractor_Saint Posted 2 September, 2010 Posted 2 September, 2010 My god - Gianluca Vialli spotted in West Quay - http://bit.ly/bOGtMw
Wade Garrett Posted 2 September, 2010 Posted 2 September, 2010 Bryan Robson and Gary Pallister were seen coming out of Woolston Social Club wearing Saints tops. My brother saw it with his own eyes.
scott_saints Posted 2 September, 2010 Posted 2 September, 2010 Nick Griffin spotted in the St Denys area. Make of this what you will.
seaempty Posted 2 September, 2010 Posted 2 September, 2010 OK, Adkins is now 4/7 favourite with SkyBet. From 4-1 to 4/7 in a couple of hours. Interesting. Sky haven't announced that he's been approached, have they?
