So now we know why there weren't many signings over the summer, NC didn't back Pardew's decision's. I am really disappointed. I think Pardew would have got us promoted this season, even if it was through the play off's. This is totally the wrong time to be replacing the Manger. Looks like no more signings this window. I ram truly shocked. Why does nothing ever run smoothly for us, not even just for a couple of seasons? Those rumours at the end of the last season were true then. The timing of this announcement is crazy right after a 4-0 away victory. What is Cortese thinking? If he was going to do it why not do it after the 1-1 draw last weekend that would have made more sense?

I am astonished by this news. What crazy timing: directly after an incredible 4-0 win and performance away from home; and the day before the transfer window shuts!! It reminds me of the timing in our prem relagation season of when RL sacked Sturrock.

 

 

These types of decisions are usually days/weeks in the making so the "timing" on the back of a decent victory are largely coincidental.

Unlucky is never an excuse in football. Clearly the decision was taken after the the first two games and may have taken account of the poor pre-season and transfer non-activity. Pardew thought the squad was good enough but it looks like Cortese doesn't agree. It has happened early enough for the new man to get in and get going. Better than a change at Christmas. Good luck to NC and to whoever we are having.

 

Cortese with his long and extensive footballing experience and track record of getting teams out of League 1......???

My Villa fan friend says they couldn't wait to get rid of O'Neill. Think Cortese simply doesn't understand football just like Lowe. Reminds me of how Derby got rid of Clough and regretted it. Plus of course the Leeds board who were also clueless. Football is as full of idiots at Board level as it always was.

 

Wow, a team where the fans rate lower on the IQ scale than ours.

after a few years watching football nothing surprises you so it's not a shock, just slightly odd timing.

 

I'll reserve judgement until we see what the plan is, Cortese's structure is work in progress, let's see what he has in store and if it's crazy, let's go ape then.

 

However if Cortese's masterplan is amazing then let's just thank Pardew for his part in turning the club around when we were in crisis and being part of the rebuilding process, and then look forwards.

 

So I'll wait for more information before making a judgement.

WTF just switched over to sky sports news & breaking news Pardew & staff sacked. Win 4-0 & get the sack just unbelievable truly unbelievable! Just when you thought that we had a bit of stability we throw it all away again. I really hope that NC knows what he is doing as I'm becoming increasingly worried that he is just a loose cannon.

Crazy decision, I felt confident that AP was going to deliver top 2 so why sack him when pre-season has finished and this season's hostilities are just starting.

 

When will we ever learn - stability is key.

 

I just hope NC has someone better lined up, I'd like to see an out and out winner installed (like Lambert at Norwich was) , not just some razzmatazz name.

 

BTW I wouldn't dismiss O'Neill out of hand, he's a bit of a maverick and might just be tempted to take on a squad already good enough to get out of this league and a decent infrastructure + transfer kitty in place. It might just appeal to his sense of adventure and give him a chance to really build something good at this club (and become a hero to boot).

 

Commiserations to AP and if it's any consolation I think many fans will feel that he's been hard done by.

Leaving AP in place would have been the best chance of getting us out of L1. I cannot think of a scenario or manager that can come in and improve our chances this season. The statement even recognises change is not good. Crazy and clearly about personalities. Unlike many on here I understood Corrtese's previous actions that caused angst - they were commercial but so what we where spending big. This changes it, all my positivity from the trip to Rovers has gone - ruined my BH Monday -

I could understand this sort of if Billy Big Balls had made the decision at the end of last season. To **** about and make it now is ridiculous. As stated above could well be that he has found it easier to do now Markus is dead. Have been in the NC is a muppet camp for some time and this hardly changes it. Just hope this works out. Wish I was able to be there Tuesday night to sing "one Alan Pardew".

I have been a big critic of Cortese but in this instance he has got it right. He should have sacked Pardew last season really and the timing of doing it now isn't ideal, but at least he took decisive action early this season. I am now a lot more confident of promotion. Under Pardew we weren't going up imo.

A number of recently recruited figures to the coaching staff had resigned, reportedly citing discontent with Pardew and his closest staff. Giving the level of spending by the former West Ham United and Charlton Athletic manager, promotion is likely to be a minimum prerequisite for his successor.

There is no better option out there at the moment, with the exception of Martin O'Neil, but that isn't going to happen.

The timing of this is ridiculous why oh why do it now 4-0 win win the game in hand & were 2-points behind the leaders, we have a good squad, any new manager is only going to be able to get in loan signings. And who the F**K are we going to get better.

They are "evaluating candidates". They DON'T have anyone lined up.

 

Thats how i read it.

 

It seemed to me that there may have been a bust up yesterday and Downes and Murdoch may have turned round and said if he goes so do we.

I don't post much these days, but this decision is sheer lunacy imo. Under Pardew the club and the team has made vast strides forward. That losing mentality has gone, the team now expects to win games. Plays some bloody good football too.

 

I heard that Pards was a dead man walking some months ago but apart from Cortese's ego and impatience I cannot see any justification for this decision. Pards himself is probably very relieved to get out of our club as it is not a happy place to work these days.

 

I suspect that there is a manager in waiting, but please god do not let it be Zola. Great player, but not thus far, a good manager. Roberto Di Matteo would be fine if Cortese wants an Italian, but to sack a man with a good track record and a 53 percent win record at Saints, for one with a fairly poor track record and win ratio could be distastrous.

 

Admittedly, at West Ham, Zola was hamstrung by the club being up to its eyes in debt and this would be a perfect chance for him to show what he can do with a club that is financially stable, but I don't really care about that, for me the timing of this is dreadful.

 

Pardew was never my choice to lead the club when he came in, but I think he did well and deserves far more respect than Cortese has afforded him. Nicolowe!

Like many people I wouldn't have been surprised had pardew got the sack this season. I half expected it after the Plymouth game. I am though hugely disappointed and really angry with NC for this. It's doubtful we'd get O'Neill and Coppell has now retired from footy so who is out there that is better than Pardew? I'm not sure this decision has anything to do with on the pitch results (NC would be an idiot to think last season was a complete failure and that 3 games was an acceptable timescale to give someone this season to prove their worth) but more likely to do with the longterm vision/structure of the club. If AP didn't like it then there was only ever going to be one winner. The big problem I (and I suspect many other fans) have is I don't really give a toss about the behind the scenes set-up and a new state of the art training facility etc. I want out of this league and I thought Pardew was the man for the job. Results last season proved he could at least get to the playoffs (ignoring -10) whilst building a team. Getting a new man in who fits nicely into the new set-up is not the way forward imo and smacks of some of Lowes managerial appts where he tried to dabble with the managerial set-up and it backfired spectacularly.
