PL - level facilities

Some good players

good organisation

Transfer budget.

Yeah, which loon will want to manage us ?

(Oh, and many are reasonably certain the replacement is lined up already)

I agree, managers would be queuing down the road to manage us. The threat of the sack goes with the territory.

There are going to be a lot of people on here with egg on their faces. The "In Cortese We trust" brigade who denied that Pardew was being lined up to be sacked last season must be looking rather foolish as it's rather obvious that those rumours were absolutely on the money. It's an absolutely insane decision. To sack Pardew pre season maybe, but to sack him with 3 league games on the clock is madness and it puts any chance of promotion into real jeopardy. Days before the transfer window? I n s a n e...

In all honesty, we need to take a look at the way Cortese runs the club as to sack a manager, after a 4-0 away win on game three, tow days before the transfer window closes is just insane. Add to that the alienation of the press and certain other, shall we say, less popular decisions with some sections of the fanbase and you have a real issue....

Daren I agree but on the last point ref, alienating the fan base, Saints fans are no less fickle than any others - a new manager comes in,gets us promoted and we would forget AP even existed. The gamble for NC is if the new man fails - then he has a problem.

Awful timing as we are now stuck with the squad as is when it is clear we are missing a few key positions! I am gutted for Alan as I felt with the last result we had turned the corner. If NC doesnt pull the proverbial rabbit from the hat over a new manager this will only compound the stupidity IMO. I guess its wait and see time boys!

The more it changes ,the more it stays the same! This club is losing/has lost most of its respect from the footballing fraternity in this country. What a sad and shocking state of affairs. AP was doing no wrong and was as good a manager as anyone to take us on.... big names and personalities do not guarantee a thing. This is a sad day, not just for Alan, not just for Saints, but for the way football is run in this country nowadays. I am sure that there will be a view that "as long as Saints are successful", but does anyone else think this sort of Merry-go-round way of running football is just a step too far?

I cant believe it what a crazy time to sack a manager! Pure madness NC is going to be mad with power now he doesnt have to run everything through markus 1st! Whats the new manager going to do he isnt going to be able to identify problem areas and buy players by tomorrow is he?!

The trouble with decisions like this is that we never know the detail of what lies behind them, and there were obviously differences given the club statement.

If so, fair play to Pardew for not being a yes man, though ultimately it has cost him his job. Personally, I am gutted. Pards gave us our first trophy for 34 years, gave us an exciting and attacking brand of football, and behaved with immense dignity through out his time with us. Good luck to him, and good luck to NC in appointing his successor. The pressure is on NC now because a "trophy " manager is not what we need to get us out of this division. IMHO of course.

I can't believe this decision. I think the majority of fans will be disapointed. Also I think the small minority of people who are pleased are giving Cortese too much credit for his football knowledge. I'm trying hard to think what he has got right apart from appointing Pardew. I think he is going to be a lose cannon and this will not be the last sacking we see this season. Thanks Pardew and good luck in the future.

Darren now is not to the time to sn1gger at NickG and his ilk. They were wrong and we were right but I for one am not the sort who gets any satisfaction from saying "i was right all along" even though I was.

I am astonished by this news. What crazy timing: directly after an incredible 4-0 win and performance away from home; and the day before the transfer window shuts!! It reminds me of the timing in our prem relagation season of when RL sacked Sturrock.

To all the NC bashers out there, I am starting to think you are right.

Madness, complete madness.

After thinking about it for a bit, There were also rumours that Pardew wasn't even Nicola and Markus's first choice, so it's within the realms of possibility to believe that Pard's has been under-review from day 1. Our start last season wouldn't have helped matters, and with us threatening to have a similar start this year i don't think Nicola could hold off.

I'm still angry at the timing of the decision though, if he really wasn't happy with him he should have gone last season so we had a new guy in ready for the start of the season.

What a truly surreal season this is, and we're not even a month into it yet.

Doesnt surprise me at all. Just proves even more NC is not the man to be leading us forward on football matters. This is a quick desicion and a bad one at that. We win 4-0, Players have just signed, and the transfer window shuts tomorrow. who the hell is going to come in now. No worries if we dont make it this year, good Nicola can say well we have had to start again!

How about the other side of the coin ? NC gave AP a second chance despite him ignoring his targets for last season, gave him the chance to hit the ground running with some transfer support, gave him a pre-season to get the team firing on all cylinders and like the rest of us was p*ssed off with how we lumbered into the season, and that the decision was made prior to the Rovers game ?

You obviously still have an axe to grind over the installment plan issue.

Cheeky.

Cortese is no doubt gonna cop a lot of stick over this I hope some don't go too far. I'd hate to give the 'Liebherrs' reason to pull out.

At least Cortese now gets his way, let's hope it's an inspired appointment that brings this scintallating football we all crave.

Thanks AP.

Keegan anyone?

At least the new manager will have a chance to settle in. Assess the squad and perhaps dip into the market if he feels that we need to strengthen. Oh hang on................................................

I suppose it depends - if there is no budget left then we were looking at loans or frees anyway so the transfer window closing is not as significant. Having said that we have probably just blown some of the wages budget on paying off AP and the other staff.

I'm shocked that anyone is shocked!

This really has seemed on the cards for quite a while.

I think it's the timing that's shocked a few of us, after a 4-0 away win! As he didn't go last season i thought he'd be given at least 10 games this year.

How do you know ?

If it takes so long to sign players as we have been told this summer, maybe it has taken him time to find the right manager.

My Villa fan friend says they couldn't wait to get rid of O'Neill. Think Cortese simply doesn't understand football just like Lowe. Reminds me of how Derby got rid of Clough and regretted it. Plus of course the Leeds board who were also clueless. Football is as full of idiots at Board level as it always was.

NC is the devils man.

AP was doomed last season when we didn't make the playoffs.

Even at the JPT final you could see the bubble from NCs head saying" AP has to to go"

I thought if he failed to win most of the first five games he would be gone by October.

Don't mess with NC

Hopefully they have a big manager lined up

Last year Norwich lost their 1st game at home 7-1 and sacked their manager....didn't turn out too bad for them, did it. As much as this has left a bitter taste in my mouth, I'm reserving judgement on how this season is going to pan out until I know what Cortese has up his sleeve.

Difference being though that Bryn Gunn was never the right appointment for them in the first place whereas AP was for us.
