even if someone "special" lined up - after 4-0 win and 24 hours left of window?

Maybe the timing was largely out of Cortese's control? (sorting out contracts etc)

Don't know but am prepared to give benefit of doubt until facts are known (I know, I know.... I'm in the wrong place for such pragmatism....)

Lets not get on our hi horses about NC instead wait for the facts. its nothing to do with saturdays win but

this has been circulating for a number of weeks now. Some very esteemed posters have been commentating on AP leaving

Instead of whinging lets get behind the team during these very depressing times

This. A good, balanced perspective.

The 0-4 win on Saturday hasnt changed matters. This has been planned for some time, just makes NC look a bit daft.

At least for me it suggests NC and the Liebherrs still want to execute on Marrkus's plan.

What stupid timing - the day before the transfer window closes - if they were going to sack him it should have been done weeks ago. If we are talking to players they are hardly going to join us now.

Did the death of Marcus delay the timing of the sacking or did it remove Cortese's only obstacle to doing it?

How will it affect Pardews team? It's probably put an end to our chances of automatic promotion. By the time we have a new manager or whatever it's going to be in place it could well be too late.

The only decent managers out there I can think off are O'Neill, Hoddle and Coppell but I can't see anyone of their calibre dropping down to League 1

not one normally to criticise without full info - but timing is strange, I can only think two things:

1) a row yesterday -perhaps over transfers

2) someone else being available

If not why give a window to Pardew?

Merrington saying on radio someone must be lined up

not so sure alps.

it makes him look strong and someone who sticks to his plans that are, in his opinion, for the good of the team longterm

Something has not been right for a while, probably after we failed to secure promotion after spending over 1.5m in January, and i would also assume this is why we've been so ''quiet'' in the transfer market this summer.

We needed a quick start this year or he was standing on a tightrope, we didn't get it. The win over Bristol rovers should have given him a reprieve though, the timing of this decision is totally wrong.

Maybe. Look at how all the "we will walk this league" comments started again yesterday, even though the next home game embarassment is only round the corner.

Very much how I see it. I would have given him another 2 league games. Maybe the ink was already dry on the new guy's contract before 3pm Saturday...

exactly.

i cant for the life of me think that NC would get rid without a) having someone in mind / lined up or b) having someone BETTER in mind / lined up

No new players that's for sure. The next few games will be with a manager who has not selected this current squad and who are in a bit of shock due to the fact that some of them may well have got on with Pardew. Personally I believe this will mean at least another season or two in League One.

Only Saints eh?

Unlucky is never an excuse in football. Clearly the decision was taken after the the first two games and may have taken account of the poor pre-season and transfer non-activity. Pardew thought the squad was good enough but it looks like Cortese doesn't agree. It has happened early enough for the new man to get in and get going. Better than a change at Christmas. Good luck to NC and to whoever we are having.

After what has been happening over the last few months this does not surprise me. The way Cortese has been running this club has done nothing but dissapoint me and I found myself losing my enthusiasm after supporting this team for 55 years. Even in the dark days of Lowe I never lost my faith. This latest move is deeply depressing and embarrassing.

FFS! I was just about to get back to some much needed sleep, then spotted this!!

Surprised by the timing, and (based on what I see as a fan, not as Pardew's employer) that it's been done at all.

Wait and see who comes in I suppose. Statement read to me like there's a name, or names, already in the frame. Hope they can gee the team up to get a bit of momentum going after a slow(ish) start.

Not sure how it works, but Pardew didn't really sound or look like a man giving his last interview on Saturday. I expect the timing has come as a shock to him too.

I don't expect us to get a new manager for a couple of weeks, Wilkins will oversea things as the OS states.

The right time to replace the Manager was a minimum of 6 weeks before the season started to give the new Manager time to put together their own team. After that the next best time is after 10 to 15 games have given the old Manager a chance to prove themselves.

This decision meets neither of those criteria and that is why it is wrong. The new Manager has no opportunity to buy/shift players this side of january. All they can do is get in a few loans and guess at the attributes of the current players.

Cortese did not clearly communicate to Pardew last season that the League was to take priority over all cup games. Consequently we wasted effort on the cups and failed to get into the playoffs. Pardew also failed to understand that the day at Wembley was a diversion that contributed to him losing his job today.

Completely one-sided. NC is as hungry as the fans to return us up to the big time. And he is not scared of making changes. People have compared to Lowe, but Lowe's main criteria in finding a replacementmanager was money, NCs will be results.

If it is really true that NC made it clear that promotion was the prio last season (confirmed by that statement in February) and AP ignored this and focused on the cups, then AP had signed his resignation letter back then...

very surprised but there is only one thing we really care about and that is promotion. If the guy that virtually owns the club thinks this is the way to go then we have to follow......only time will tell if this was the right decision.

Whilst I think its a ridiculous decision, i feel we have to trust Cortese's judgement, Whoever comes in, they wont be a nobody thats for sure. Sadly though, this is all too familiar.....Not really sure what to think, still I guess a few of the forum drama queens will be waking up happy this morning.

Rather than knee jerk "NC is a ****" reactions, take a deep breath and think this through.

AP and NC have fallen out in the past and NC has a very clear vision for where he wants things to go. If AP is deemed not able to deliver that, then NC had to change things.

NC is clearly doing what he thinks is best for SFC. He would not take such a decision lightly.

AP has done a fabulous job getting the players he has and getting us set up with a professional back office support structure.

I am sad for AP as he deserved a crack at getting us promoted. I am also gutted for those players who will find it difficult to accept a new gaffer as they had much respect for AP.

As for our future, I am certain that NC has a "Plan B" and that the majority will understand this move when it comes to fruition. There will always be the moaning minnies, no matter what happens. Some people are just unable to see past their dislike for a person (NC) vs the good business practises he imposes on the club.

Long ago I accepted that football is "morally bankrupt" - enforced when Nigel Pearson got the sack in favour of the "cheaper" dutch experiment.

Alan Pardew - thanks for all you have done for SFC. You have always held your head high and done what you thought needed to be done. Much respect and good luck in your next appointment (please not at a League One club!)

Excited now that the "rabbit in the hat" will be able to attract even greater talent to our club and we will start to get those results that so far have evaded us - ones we will need to get if we are to climb the league.

Of course our season is not "finished". We have played 3 games! Promotion is still very much on the cards and I intend to enjoy the ride rather than spend all my time moaning.
