New First Team Football Manager and Coaches to be Appointed

Following a review of the current status in and around the First Team, the Club has decided that, to achieve its well known targets, it is essential to make changes to the First Team management and coaching.

These targets for sustained and significant progress embrace both the First Team and the Football Development & Support Centre as integrated, co-operative units.

Consequently, the First Team Manager, Alan Pardew; First Team Coach, Wally Downes; and Goalkeeping Coach, Stuart Murdoch have been relieved of their duties with immediate effect. The Club wishes them well for the future.

While we have commenced our careful evaluation of our candidates and longer term requirements, Dean Wilkins has taken on the caretaker role for the First Team and he will be assisted by Martin Hunter, the Under 21 coach.

We recognise that frequent changes to the football management are unlikely to assist in the winning of trophies and promotions.

However, we are taking these steps to achieve our aims, which we share with all supporters, to get promoted this season, and secure long term stability and progress for our football operations.

surprised at the timing and disappointed.....but had a feeling this might happen once the dust had settled from the past few weeks. Shocking timing with the transfer window closing tomorrow....unless something has already gone on in the background. The whole thing stinks though. I'm not impressed.

The timing of this is completely f**king mental. If I were in the first team, celebrating a superb result on Saturday, I would be questioning my future. However, NC has ensured they cant go until January, giving them time to click with the new manager.

This has been planned for sometime, clearly. Presumably NC had been getting a replacement in place.

Explains our transfer activity. New guy has no time.

It stinks to high heaven along with the other decisions cortese has made.

this has really really ****ed me off, it's such a critical time and i can tell you for a fact that the players loved playing for Pardew and Wally Downes.

This is going to completely unsettle the team and we'll struggle now, after such a promising result on saturday.

Do those that wanted AP to go (even by Xmas) believe that the timing of this is good for our club. I would strongly suggest that this puts paid to any signings before tomorrow night, as they would have been expecting AP to still be here. This seems incredible after a string of very good performances in the first 5 games of the season culminating in the thrashing to Bristol Rovers that many of the fans had been expecting after the first 4 performances.

I would assume that this was on the cards last week, but the new manager formalities had to be sanctioned before the sacking could be announced. For NC this is now a little embaressing as it is concluded after a fantastic performance. Who has NC had lined up then, this is now the question?!?!?

I just hope that this does not affect the top players, as clearly the likes of Fonte, Puncheon, Butterfield etc came to this club partly due to AP being the manager.

The strangest way IMHO to conclude the strangest and surreal of months in our great clubs history.

It's very sad that AP has been sacked but we must trust Cortese as he will not bring in a **** management team.

So who's out there?

My cluedo bet is Coppell as director with Zola and his side kick as management team.

I really do not trust Cortese anymore Pilch.

Lets not get on our hi horses about NC instead wait for the facts. its nothing to do with saturdays win but

this has been circulating for a number of weeks now. Some very esteemed posters have been commentating on AP leaving

Instead of whinging lets get behind the team during these very depressing times

Well alps...happy now. What a shocking decision by NC. On this I will not defend him.

No doubt this is only the first time I will have to post this today.

No, I am not happy. I wanted AP to succeed. But in my opinion he will struggle to deliver NCs targets. The timing stinks especially.

This is just crazy. We have played well and been unlucky so far this year. Saturday we finally clicked into gear - the future was certainly bright - and now ......

Other teams always start well with a new manager. We don't. Although AP may have made some strange tactical decisions he was certainly going to take us into the Championship although he might not have been the man to take us back to the Premiership.

This is just crazy.
