marc_saint Posted 30 August, 2010 Posted 30 August, 2010 http://www.saintsfc.co.uk/page/NewsDetail/0,,10280~2139306,00.html Official Club Statement Posted on: Mon 30 Aug 2010 New First Team Football Manager and Coaches to be Appointed Following a review of the current status in and around the First Team, the Club has decided that, to achieve its well known targets, it is essential to make changes to the First Team management and coaching. These targets for sustained and significant progress embrace both the First Team and the Football Development & Support Centre as integrated, co-operative units. Consequently, the First Team Manager, Alan Pardew; First Team Coach, Wally Downes; and Goalkeeping Coach, Stuart Murdoch have been relieved of their duties with immediate effect. The Club wishes them well for the future. While we have commenced our careful evaluation of our candidates and longer term requirements, Dean Wilkins has taken on the caretaker role for the First Team and he will be assisted by Martin Hunter, the Under 21 coach. We recognise that frequent changes to the football management are unlikely to assist in the winning of trophies and promotions. However, we are taking these steps to achieve our aims, which we share with all supporters, to get promoted this season, and secure long term stability and progress for our football operations.
JoeShmoe Posted 30 August, 2010 Posted 30 August, 2010 We win 4-0 and sack the management team, dear oh dear. What has happened to footy
trousers Posted 30 August, 2010 Posted 30 August, 2010 (edited) Just received the same message. Blimey.... 64 pages by lunchtime....unless the forum melts down of course..... ;-) Edited 30 August, 2010 by trousers
Red and White Army Posted 30 August, 2010 Posted 30 August, 2010 Wow. That is very disappointing news for me. I felt Pardew was the man to get us promoted, and I am not pleased with this news at all.
EBS1980 Posted 30 August, 2010 Posted 30 August, 2010 Shocked!! What's the betting it's a Italian coming in? Strange timing.
Ex Ringwood Saint Posted 30 August, 2010 Posted 30 August, 2010 Wow....so who is happy who is mad at that decision after a four nil away win...oh well what will be will be...probably would of happened sooner but for the untimely passing of ML .. Or is that what sped it up... Who knows with saints ....
70's Mike Posted 30 August, 2010 Posted 30 August, 2010 No promotion this year then, Unbelievable Really thought NC would have learnt from the past
ericofarabia Posted 30 August, 2010 Posted 30 August, 2010 Please tell me this is an early April Fools Day prank or that some skates have hacked into the Official Site. If this is really true it is totally unbelievable. FFS FFS FFS
FarehamRed Posted 30 August, 2010 Posted 30 August, 2010 On idea if this is the right decision or not - guess it all depends on who have been lined up as replacements. Best wishe to AP and the others. It's never easy losing your job.
S-Clarke Posted 30 August, 2010 Posted 30 August, 2010 what on earth is cortese doing he's been waiting to do this for a while, but the timing utterly beggars belief. what an idiot. This will now probably cost us any chance of a top 2 spot, it's ruined our season.
AussieDog Posted 30 August, 2010 Posted 30 August, 2010 surprised at the timing and disappointed.....but had a feeling this might happen once the dust had settled from the past few weeks. Shocking timing with the transfer window closing tomorrow....unless something has already gone on in the background. The whole thing stinks though. I'm not impressed.
Red and White Army Posted 30 August, 2010 Posted 30 August, 2010 Please can someone post up Cortese's email address?
CHAPEL END CHARLIE Posted 30 August, 2010 Posted 30 August, 2010 In the immortal words of Sgt Wilson to Captain Mainwaring : Do you think that's wise Sir ?
St.Patrik Posted 30 August, 2010 Posted 30 August, 2010 This must be joke - can´t belive this - I must read it again....
trousers Posted 30 August, 2010 Posted 30 August, 2010 Prediction: lots of aghast reactions for the first few hours/days followed by short term memory loss when a "special" manager is appointed....
lordswoodsaints Posted 30 August, 2010 Posted 30 August, 2010 Tbh it isn't a surprise....no smoke without fire and the smoke has been rising for about 6 months Shame,I was just getting to like him.
WALK DMC Posted 30 August, 2010 Posted 30 August, 2010 Could the rumours about Zola being in Southampton last week have some substance ?
BobCharles was Thin Posted 30 August, 2010 Posted 30 August, 2010 So we thought RL was mad. What is going on?
paris Posted 30 August, 2010 Posted 30 August, 2010 Had a gut feeling this morning and i was right however i believe this to be a > VERY (
alpine_saint Posted 30 August, 2010 Posted 30 August, 2010 The timing of this is completely f**king mental. If I were in the first team, celebrating a superb result on Saturday, I would be questioning my future. However, NC has ensured they cant go until January, giving them time to click with the new manager. This has been planned for sometime, clearly. Presumably NC had been getting a replacement in place. Explains our transfer activity. New guy has no time.
trousers Posted 30 August, 2010 Posted 30 August, 2010 Could the rumours about Zola being in Southampton last week have some substance ? Zola Budd?
saint lard Posted 30 August, 2010 Posted 30 August, 2010 This decision is just rediculous. Stability is the key, especially with what has passed the last couple weeks, losing Markus. I did suspect this and i fully expect Zola to be installed as i stated on the Rovers build up thread.
S-Clarke Posted 30 August, 2010 Posted 30 August, 2010 surprised at the timing and disappointed.....but had a feeling this might happen once the dust had settled from the past few weeks. Shocking timing with the transfer window closing tomorrow....unless something has already gone on in the background. The whole thing stinks though. I'm not impressed. It stinks to high heaven along with the other decisions cortese has made. this has really really ****ed me off, it's such a critical time and i can tell you for a fact that the players loved playing for Pardew and Wally Downes. This is going to completely unsettle the team and we'll struggle now, after such a promising result on saturday.
Bourno Posted 30 August, 2010 Posted 30 August, 2010 WTF Utter madness, wrong decision, wrong timing. FFS
JoeShmoe Posted 30 August, 2010 Posted 30 August, 2010 Prediction: lots of aghast reactions for the first few hours/days followed by short term memory loss when a "special" manager is appointed.... This
Gingeletiss Posted 30 August, 2010 Posted 30 August, 2010 Well alps...happy now. What a shocking decision by NC. On this I will not defend him.
saintoaks Posted 30 August, 2010 Posted 30 August, 2010 I cant get my head round this Cortese bloke, his so called review was done at the end of last season, he's trying his hardest to mess up another season !! there better be a high profile manager coming in.
Gorgiesaint Posted 30 August, 2010 Posted 30 August, 2010 Well perhaps no surprise that he's been sacked given that NC never appeared to get on with AP, but the timing after a 4-0 away win?? Unless something has gone on behind the scenes.
polegategavin Posted 30 August, 2010 Posted 30 August, 2010 Do those that wanted AP to go (even by Xmas) believe that the timing of this is good for our club. I would strongly suggest that this puts paid to any signings before tomorrow night, as they would have been expecting AP to still be here. This seems incredible after a string of very good performances in the first 5 games of the season culminating in the thrashing to Bristol Rovers that many of the fans had been expecting after the first 4 performances. I would assume that this was on the cards last week, but the new manager formalities had to be sanctioned before the sacking could be announced. For NC this is now a little embaressing as it is concluded after a fantastic performance. Who has NC had lined up then, this is now the question?!?!? I just hope that this does not affect the top players, as clearly the likes of Fonte, Puncheon, Butterfield etc came to this club partly due to AP being the manager. The strangest way IMHO to conclude the strangest and surreal of months in our great clubs history.
Pilchards Posted 30 August, 2010 Posted 30 August, 2010 It's very sad that AP has been sacked but we must trust Cortese as he will not bring in a **** management team. So who's out there? My cluedo bet is Coppell as director with Zola and his side kick as management team.
NickG Posted 30 August, 2010 Posted 30 August, 2010 even if someone "special" lined up - after 4-0 win and 24 hours left of window?
S-Clarke Posted 30 August, 2010 Posted 30 August, 2010 It's very sad that AP has been sacked but we must trust Cortese as he will not bring in a **** management team. So who's out there? My cluedo bet is Coppell as director with Zola and his side kick as management team. I really do not trust Cortese anymore Pilch.
Viking Warrior Posted 30 August, 2010 Posted 30 August, 2010 Lets not get on our hi horses about NC instead wait for the facts. its nothing to do with saturdays win but this has been circulating for a number of weeks now. Some very esteemed posters have been commentating on AP leaving Instead of whinging lets get behind the team during these very depressing times
trousers Posted 30 August, 2010 Posted 30 August, 2010 Without disclosing my opinion on this morning's events (which could be one way or t'other) am I the only one a little excited about what might happen next?
JoeShmoe Posted 30 August, 2010 Posted 30 August, 2010 TalkSport guys just ripping the **** out the decision. When we did become Man City :-(
SO16_Saint Posted 30 August, 2010 Posted 30 August, 2010 in the transfer market we have only ever brought in better than what we have currently. I believe this will be exactly the same here, and we will get better than Pardew. In Cortese we (I) trust
alpine_saint Posted 30 August, 2010 Posted 30 August, 2010 Well alps...happy now. What a shocking decision by NC. On this I will not defend him. No doubt this is only the first time I will have to post this today. No, I am not happy. I wanted AP to succeed. But in my opinion he will struggle to deliver NCs targets. The timing stinks especially.
EBS1980 Posted 30 August, 2010 Posted 30 August, 2010 Wonder what Gully makes of it, signs one week and the manager has gone already. Maybe we got him because of who was going to be the manager?
S-Clarke Posted 30 August, 2010 Posted 30 August, 2010 Without disclosing my opinion on this morning's events (which could be one way or t'other) am I the only one a little excited about what might happen next? I'm apprehensive.
Northampton Saint Posted 30 August, 2010 Posted 30 August, 2010 This is just crazy. We have played well and been unlucky so far this year. Saturday we finally clicked into gear - the future was certainly bright - and now ...... Other teams always start well with a new manager. We don't. Although AP may have made some strange tactical decisions he was certainly going to take us into the Championship although he might not have been the man to take us back to the Premiership. This is just crazy.
