bjk Posted 26 August, 2010 Posted 26 August, 2010 Right, the season starts saturday. Rovers 1 Saints 2 Lambert and Barnard. Then its onwards and upwards. WIFM.
St Marco Posted 26 August, 2010 Posted 26 August, 2010 Someone is going to get mauled by us soon. Let's hope it is Rovers in revenge for when they visited us last year! Which was a great game.
bjk Posted 26 August, 2010 Author Posted 26 August, 2010 I think we probably had adequate revenge last season but a bit more would be good.
SO16_Saint Posted 26 August, 2010 Posted 26 August, 2010 tough one this but hope we can pull it off 1-0 / 2-1
Windmill Arm 2 Posted 26 August, 2010 Posted 26 August, 2010 If we lose then AP will be gone. Assuming you are not Nicola Cortese, this is a ****** statement. W
itchen_dan Posted 26 August, 2010 Posted 26 August, 2010 If we lose then AP will be gone. Don't want to admit it but I think you may well be right. Cortese wont hang around this season. Markus or no Markus, Cortese will make the decision which he thinks is best for the team. I think Saints should be ok and will win 2-1! WIFM!
latter day saint Posted 26 August, 2010 Posted 26 August, 2010 If we lose then AP will be gone. wot if its a draw?
Smirking_Saint Posted 26 August, 2010 Posted 26 August, 2010 If we lose then AP will be gone. I don't think he has too long, and TBF i don't think we can afford to wait until Xmas if we are clearly faltering, we need a win and hopefully a big one.
hypochondriac Posted 26 August, 2010 Posted 26 August, 2010 I don't think he has too long, and TBF i don't think we can afford to wait until Xmas if we are clearly faltering, we need a win and hopefully a big one. I agree. I will be extremely disappointed if we lose.
SO16_Saint Posted 26 August, 2010 Posted 26 August, 2010 i hate to say it, but i agree re AP - i hope he doesnt go, because i think he's the right man for the job for us, for now, for this league.
Smirking_Saint Posted 26 August, 2010 Posted 26 August, 2010 He has dissapointed me with his lack of reaction when things aren't going well, he plans and buys well but just seems he can't change things soon enough or effective enough. I hope he stays, mainly as i worry talents such as Lambert, Lallana and Spiderman lose commitment if he goes.

I hope he stays, mainly as i worry talents such as Lambert, Lallana and Spiderman lose commitment if he goes. I would say that's one of his strong points, my only real gripes with Pardew are that he is from time to time too negative in his team selection / tactics and doesn't handle the press very welll. There where plenty of times where Pardew turned a performance around with personnel and tactical changes - Brighton away, Orient away, Yeovil away etc.
Saint Charlie Posted 26 August, 2010 Posted 26 August, 2010 Would Cortese let Pards bring in players he wants then sack him before they have played? Think he will get more than 3 league games whatever happens this weekend.

I'm still not that sure. I thought I liked him but then I thought about it and I can't really think of anything other than his signings where he has performed above expectations. His tactics haven't been great, he takes too long to make substitutions, his post match interviews are uninspiring. I remain unconvinced by him.

There where plenty of times where Pardew turned a performance around with personnel and tactical changes - Brighton away, Orient away, Yeovil away etc. Wow Literally the opposite to what i see as i find his team selections good, 451 is a winning one, why anyone thinks it is defensive is beyond me. He is very articulate in his interviews, comes over very well and always says the right things. Every team will win a few from a losing position. I just don't understand why he makes subs so late and sometimes doesn't change anything at all. But thats football, all opinions.
The Cat Posted 26 August, 2010 Posted 26 August, 2010 Very much looking forward to this, a repeat of last season would be mighty fine. I presume we'll be giving the black kit it's first proper outing.
CWD Posted 26 August, 2010 Posted 26 August, 2010 3-1 saints, Barnard hat-trick - he deserves one anyway! Feeling confident about this one BUT if we don't win, the fans and players will be nervy against Rochdale meaning another possible poor result, and then we really are playing catch up.... No reason to get rid of AP so early though
Um Bongo Posted 27 August, 2010 Posted 27 August, 2010 Looks like the new guy still won't have his clearance to play.
doddisalegend Posted 27 August, 2010 Posted 27 August, 2010 The Gas fans are pretty pessimistic about this one on their forums and are expecting a tonking, so will probably hammer us:rolleyes: to be honest as long as we play the way we have in the games this season the goals will come and someone will get tonked might as well be Brizzile rovers.
SO16_Saint Posted 27 August, 2010 Posted 27 August, 2010 Were creating chances and just need one to give us confidence. Someone WILL get a tonking from us soon
georgeweahscousin Posted 27 August, 2010 Posted 27 August, 2010 My latest blog for Shoot magazine including preview. http://www.shoot.co.uk/news/latest_article/C50/leagues_1_2/guly_flies_in_to_southampton

Joey-deacons-left-nut Posted 27 August, 2010 Posted 27 August, 2010 I dreamt that we won 2 nil last night. Trust in me! Oh Gully still hasn't had the paperwork through form the Ital FA yet...
Saint_clark Posted 27 August, 2010 Posted 27 August, 2010 See Saints tickets have sold out for this game, again.
Appy Posted 27 August, 2010 Posted 27 August, 2010 3-1 i think to us. Rickie and Barnard to start firing, possibly Schniederlin to have lightning strike twice?
Chez Posted 27 August, 2010 Posted 27 August, 2010 See Saints tickets have sold out for this game, again. and no rain predicted so we won't get wet. It will be interesting to watch Lines this time round as I didn't notice him previously and obviously there has been a lot of speculation surrounding him and Saints over the last 6 months. Hopeful of a win, but won't take it for granted. 0-1.
saintscottofthenortham Posted 27 August, 2010 Posted 27 August, 2010 Brizzle 2-4 Saints. I can't help but see a goal fest. Kuffour will cause us problems, Rickie will be bang up for it again, and Barnard is literally doing everything but score. I can see it coming togther tomorrow attack wise, i just dont trust us defensively enough so see us conceding. I reckon it will be a cracking game anyhow.

paris Posted 27 August, 2010 Posted 27 August, 2010 2,000 fans going so well done to those that are going...
Appy Posted 27 August, 2010 Posted 27 August, 2010 Wonder if the weather will replicate the cup game last year, should be fun in the terrace if so.
The Cat Posted 27 August, 2010 Posted 27 August, 2010 2,000 fans going so well done to those that are going... Thanks
SuperMikey Posted 27 August, 2010 Posted 27 August, 2010 I think it'll be 1-1, can't imagine what it'll be like on here after that result!
The Cat Posted 27 August, 2010 Posted 27 August, 2010 A quick look on some Rovers forums suggests they think we'll win comfortably tomorrow and Trollope is close to getting the boot. Seems like they're hacked off with his defensive style of football, which means they'll probably run out 1-0 winners after scoring from their only shot. One fan came to the Bolton game and states we have quick wingers, although he may have actually been referring to some of the posters on this site and meant "whingers".
once_bitterne Posted 27 August, 2010 Posted 27 August, 2010 Gully still hasn't had the paperwork through form the Ital FA yet... Would the paperwork have had to be received by midday for him to be eligible for tomorrow?
Joey-deacons-left-nut Posted 27 August, 2010 Posted 27 August, 2010 Nah, beofre kick off, he's registered with our lot, its just the otehr side that need to say its fine for him to play.
Chez Posted 27 August, 2010 Posted 27 August, 2010 why is there a hold up? How long does it take to fill in a form and fax/email it across FFS?
SuperMikey Posted 27 August, 2010 Posted 27 August, 2010 They accidentally spilled pasta sauce on the paperwork. Mamma mia!
alpine_saint Posted 27 August, 2010 Posted 27 August, 2010 why is there a hold up? How long does it take to fill in a form and fax/email it across FFS? Dont have a lot of experience of dealing with Central European beaurocracy, do you ?
once_bitterne Posted 27 August, 2010 Posted 27 August, 2010 why is there a hold up? How long does it take to fill in a form and fax/email it across FFS? It's Italy, I would imagine they are awaiting some form of bribe....
Kingsbridge Saint Posted 27 August, 2010 Posted 27 August, 2010 Need a win very very soon or Pardews nuts are going to get roasted. The players need to deliver for Pards, let alone Markus. The Italians have always been bloody useless at paperwork, too busy pinching girls arses and putting reverse gears in tanks. Hopefully we can be equally slow in sending the payment.
Andy_Porter Posted 27 August, 2010 Posted 27 August, 2010 Harlee Dean signs and now Gully is cleared to play, they say good things come in three's - maybe we have another player announcement to come tonight.
derry Posted 27 August, 2010 Posted 27 August, 2010 Would Cortese let Pards bring in players he wants then sack him before they have played? Think he will get more than 3 league games whatever happens this weekend. They are not Pardew's players. Whilst he obviously has a big say it is committee of Les Reed, David Burke plus Cortese and Pardew who make the final decision on any player.
Thedelldays Posted 27 August, 2010 Posted 27 August, 2010 win or will feel for pardew.. we should have at least one win by now
saint lard Posted 27 August, 2010 Posted 27 August, 2010 Mmm,we will lose,AP sacked and Zola will our next manager. Just a wild stab in the dark.
The Kraken Posted 27 August, 2010 Posted 27 August, 2010 Mmm,we will lose,AP sacked and Zola will our next manager. Just a wild stab in the dark. I think you're right about the first two, not sure about number three though. Edit to say: I agree If that happens.
