Just seen saints twitter saying something about what pards has had to say about him and a link to saints player.

Anyone know anymore? I'm guessing it's something like we tried to get him but reading want too much or something?

Anything more than 500k and he wouldn't be worth it. If we have tried to sign him he will know that and hopefully he will walk from Reading at the end of the season as they just imposed the year contract on him (as they had a right to but does he want to be there ?)

I would rather sign the youngster from Wycombe, Phillips ?

I think he did well for us but I saw more good luck at being in the right place at the right time than pure skill. Maybe in training people saw more.

Wouldn't throw loads of money at reading though.

AP basically saying there is now no chance of getting Antonio. The penny has dropped at Reading that they have a player on their hands.

or that they can't take the p1ss over charging

What a joke - why o why didnt we insist on a purchase clause with the loan - from memory we had 2 loan periods in which to sort this out. I feel in my heart that we should be owed money now for developing the guy! What a f**k up!

Andy I think that developing loan players is pretty much part of any loan deal. Most clubs loaning players will do so with the express wish that those players are given game time in which to develop - that is the name of the game unfortunately. The loaning club is hoping to get back a better and more experienced player than they loaned out. This is the case with Antonio.

Prehaps Reading want to keep him, prehaps they never intended to let him go. They sent him out on loan to give him experince of league football we gave him that he's devoloping into a good player, good enough for Reading to want him.

Why didn't we take guns to the negotiations and demand a purchase clause? Stupid Cortese, stupid Pardew, what fools.

Spoke to my brother-on-law last night who is a Reading ST holder and he said Saints had offered 600K but it was turned down. I told him that was a good offer and he agreed.

Do Reading inform all season ticket holders of incoming bids? I wish Saints did the same.

Yep, read that too. Ah well, it was good while it lasted. He has a Cup Final winners medal with us, at least. Fond memories of a very good player.

Have you considered that they wouldn't give us one? We can't force them you know.

Why bring facts into the equation when you can snipe away with baseless accusations?

Because of how bad the team is currently. Obviously.

FFS you havent even seen a ****ing game. We did really well v Bolton and were very unlucky v Orient. Slightly rusty maybe but no way 'bad'. We battered a Prem team fod most of the game the other night, hence the standing ovation at the end. I was actually there and we certainly were not 'bad'.

Doesn't matter. People not at the game, living in a different country, have a much better perspective on the current state of the team.

Would explain a few things if that were the case, like how we are scratching around now like headless chickens.

And you know that we are 'scratching around like headless chickens'? When did Cortese tell you that?

Posted
Why is it a fact ? Maybe we simply didnt bother asking.

Or maybe we did. Neither of us have any idea, yet you have decide that it was definitely the club to blame.

he's got access to Corteses and Pardews calender, as he's told me a few times that they're not looking for anyone and they are just sat around on their hands.

Why is it that Antonio not coming back seems to have made him twice as good as he is in people's minds?

Head nail hit on!!

Antonio was a decent enough player at times but also rather inconsistant with a fairly average touch. Anyone remember his performance at wycombe away? worst performance from a saints player i can remember for a while.

worth buying at a reasonable price but wont lose too much sleep over him

Would be laughable if it wasn't so annoying. If ever a post cap was a good idea....

Whereas you and hypochondriac have decided it was beastly Reading's fault without any evidence.

Your turn...

Maybe people in glass houses shouldnt throw stones.

We haven't assumed anything. We just haven't pre-judged the club over something we don't know about, which is what you did.

No I didn't! I said I didn't know so I'm not going to criticise the club for something I have no idea of.

maybe most don't know, realise the club did well in getting him on loan, made an effort to sign him - don't know the facts so decide not to slag the club off? Tempted?

Wow, that old card.

Totally taken out of context, as per usual.

Alpine - Pardew said after the last game that they had spoken to Reading about doing a deal and then Reading took up their option as was their perrogative to do so. And it was near the end of the season he really began to do well so in Jan there was less of a case to sign him permanently.

If anything it shows AP is a good judge and coach as he took a playe nobody really wanted and turned him into a decent player, who Reading now want.

Heres the full(ish) interview with AP on the BBC Antonio is not coming back time to move on

http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport1/hi/football/teams/s/southampton/8947860.stm

This concerns me because it does nothing about securing the midfield when things start going astray. Antonio put in some good performances for us and was an asset at times, equally he came on and made no difference what so ever. I really doubt you will get someone with pace who can put in an end product at this level, I just cannot see that bearing fruit. Take Nathan Dyer for example, does anyone think he would be the answer should things need changing around? And I would expect it to be difficult to get any better. If the arse goes from the midfield, just how will the likes of Antonio or Papa solve that problem. As we saw previously, they can't

If Pardew does nothing about securing up the midfield and believes the answer is this magic on the wing hiding away in a Premier club, yet to be seen, I don't see it happening! Everything seems to be resting upon Guly to be the big fix, I hope this works out.

Nobody really wanted ? I thought Reading said no to us having an option ?

Interesting to note that we have an option with Goolie and had one with Papa - maybe AP felt less confident about Antonio and didnt bother ?

Care to retract your comment about Kraken and I saying it was Reading's fault?

Erm, no, not really.

Nobody retracts comments about me, and some real humdingers have been flying around last couple of days.

2 wrongs make a right then? Says alot about you. Carry on, you're clearly not worth engaging with.

I really think it's becuase Reading wanted Antonio his loan was away to get him some experince as he'd just come from non-league. Papa and Gulys clubs didn't/don't want them but we were/are not sure enough about the players just to buy them straight up hence an option to buy if they turn out to be what we want.
