Solent suggesting PArdew is looking at awide man....cant see it being Antonio as he played tonight (wouldnt have if we'd had a bid accepted) so another good surprise perhaps?!!

 

Rumour is Antonio did his ACL this evening playing for Reading. Game over on that idea for the time being then

Didn't he score 4 goals for Rotherham last Saturday?

 

He ticks the winger box, but not the back-up to Rickie box (he's about 5'6" isn't he?)

 

This is why I thought Antonio was a good move - he ticked three boxes; winger, impact sub and possible CF. Sounds like the injury rules him out though. Although am not sure he was a real target anyway, just a fanbase desire.

5'11" and only 23......He would be good but is he really a winger?!

I dont see the point in signing another striker unless he is tall and powerful like rickie. We already have Barnard and Connolly as the small strikers so why sign anyone like Craddock or Le Fondre

Reading site says he was taken off at half time after suffering a few knocks so doesnt sound too bad.

Pretty sure that if we was close to signing Antonio then Reading wouldn't have played him last night. Solent were suggesting it could be him but that was pure speculation and they were not ITK.

 

I think a fringe premiership player may be on the cards. Not sure who, just have a gut feeling.

Marcus Bent is my gut feeling but I reckon it will be some hot italian that will be a whippet to get on Rickie's knock ons.

That's the only way to beat 10 backline like we will have to face so many times this season.

Is Harte a centreback or left back nowadays!?

 

Perhaps he's going to be our play maker in the middle - he can pass and take set pieces but he has no pace

Balso, Brian McDermott praised him for his first half display so he certainly isn't going to be trying to `offload' him.

but sky sports have just broke the news on their transfer clockwatch that we're tracking Ian Harte, which i find bizzare as that's the last situation we need to strengthen. Unless seabornes injury is quite bad?

Not sure how this came to SKYs attention, but (in proper forum guesswork style) perhaps our scout was at the Carlise game this week and when questioned he said Harte as a red herring to keep any interest on the real player quiet?

So if we are signing someone before Saturday its going to be at 23.23 again. Either tonight or tomorrow then.

 

Hopefully tonight because if its tomorrow night they will not be able to play on Saturday ;)

I think any signing has to be done by lunchtime tomorrow doesnt it if he wants to play the new signing at the weekend?

 

Anyway, im all up for a 23:23 announcement!

 

Hoping for someone like Matt Phillips. Young, fast winger who could easily come on and change the game for us (like Antonio did) and then possibly pushing for a starting place (like Antonio did).

Heard this morning that Adam Le Fondre will be signed before Saturday and that we are def tracking Harte. Apparently need Harte to play in central defence with Fonte.

 

Well, this suggest Jaidi is now viewed as being over the hill. What does this say about Seaborne ?

I would question whether Harte would want to uproot his family at this stage in his career. (If he has one of course)

I'm not convinced with Jaidi or Seabourne or even Martin at this stage though has potential so can see AP going after another CB

According to 'Soccerbase' Harte is only 5'7'', not exactly the height of a dominant CB to play alongside Fonte. Also, at 33 it's hardly building for the future. I would be VERY surprised if this were true.

 

Le Fondre would be a decent signing, but would still leave Rickie as the only big CF.

I will be attending Hereford v Rotherham on Saturday. Will be interesting to see if he's in their team.

Can't see the Harte rumour being true, Pard's has always said he likes tall/dominant players down the spine of the team. When he came here he got rid of all the ''short'' players and replaced them with 6ft + players.

 

Harte is a very average and small CB - as shown in the JPT Final, he's no better than what we have and we have other positions that need more attention.

maybe he wants Harte as the playmaker in midfield to sit in front of the back four - he can defend and he can certainly pass the ball

 

I'd like to see us get another centreback to play alongside Fonte though - although I think both Seaborne and Martin will be good enough in time. I have a feeling we might bring one in on loan once the premiership clubs have finalised there 25 man squads - someone like Andrew Davies from Stoke for example.

The Echo this morning are saying that Luke Varney is going out on a season long loan from Derby and Saints could be a possibility as Pardew signed him previously for Charlton.

Well. Doesn't look as though the new bloke (whomever he may be) is going to sign in time to play tomorrow, and it seems unlikely also that goolies will receive his clearance. Bit of a bummer really

Indeed. Unless the signing has taken place and it's just we've not released any details yet. I'm a bit bemused by the fact we keep saying we hope to bring people in but nothing seems to happen. We've been talking about widemen for weeks now and we've still not strengthened that area.

You may not be convinced, but a lot of people (including Pardew) are, so there is no way we will sign another CB.

no way it will be Harte. Slow, short and crap in that position. Look at the massive progression we made defensively as soon as we got a unit in at centre back. We won't ever have a small centre back whilst AP is here and thank god for that.

Personally I think we will only see loans anyway. I have nothing to base my view other than I think since ML's death the financial purse strings will be tightened despite the communication that has been delivered to suggest otherwise. on the other hand the squad we have at the moment should be strong enough to gain promotion. Whether the resources are being used to full effectiveness Is open for debate.
