What I'd love to see:

-----------------------Bart---------------------

Butterfield - Fonte © - Seaborne - Harding

-------------------Schneiderlin----------------

------------Lallana----------Puncheon--------

-----------------------Guly--------------------

-----------Lambert ---------- Barnard-------

That'll do nicely :)

And on the original thread title .... nobody eles has mentioned it but a great example of a palindrome ;)

Not strictly a palindrome, of course, but referred to as such in the 'dead parrot sketch'.

I like number 4: 'No-one can be bothered to hate them as they are a nonentity.... ....they are a NOTHING club'.

I am looking forward to this game it will be nice to play a team that have come to St Marys looking for a win could be a very good open game of football.

With any luck Bolton will underestimate us play there reserves and we could win this I know they have some quality players but we are not expected to beat them so we can just have a go at them and see what happens

if i'm driving down from Swindon & paying £22 quid to get in then i want to see our first team play

AP's comments on the OS suggest you're in luck then, as he will be playing his strongest side in a bid to create a winning team.

Why? It's not like the players need a rest. Most of the team looked unfit Saturday so surely these players need more games rather than training to get them match fit. Really think we should go for this one and try and get the feelgood factor going.

Pardew, its the league cup, its Bolton.

Please please please don't put your strongest team out, that is just daft. The league is the priority

That is all

Last thing I want is us going all out for a win here, getting it and then ****ing up at the weekend. This cup doesn't matter one bit.

There is no guarantee that if we lose tonight then we won't screw up at the week end. Our players look to me like they still need games. Go for the win and let the weekend take care of itself.

Having read the OS it seems Pardew agrees with you. In which case, I think I might get myself down to the ground tonight, I've missed all the games so far as I've been away. Hopefully Guly will get a run out so we'll get to see if he's either the next Anders Svensson or the next Marcelo Sarmiento.

I'm not saying we should just turn up and roll over. I just think it gives the likes of Lambert, Puncheon, maybe Dickson a good chance to sharpen up their game. And a real motivation for any of the fringe players to stake a claim for a starting spot. Davies and Elmander are a couple of strong, backs to goal forwards so would be a great learning curve for Martin and Seaborne. And what better motivation for AOC and Guly than to say "get out there, give it a good go, show us what you can do going forwards", with having very little pressure on the actual result.

I just have terrible memories of being at the Brum game last year when we, needlessly, lost a very good right back for the season.

Can happen in a training game - you can't determine your approach to things on what MIGHT happen - you achieve nothing that way.

Addendum - sorry I seem to have double replied to you. I didn't really note who had posted this :-)

I see tonight as 'nothing to lose, everything to gain'... the squad need games, and so I wanted the strongest side played, and am glad to see AP confirm this. If we lose, so be it, but the players will know that losing to any Premiership side, even if they don't put out a strong team, is still no disgrace. As long as we give it 100%, then it's good preparation for Saturday. Of course, if we win, then it's also a morale booster.

Bring it on.

I'm with you there Minty, it was an odd pre season where we never really played our first 11 that much. I think they need games under their belts to get some real match fitness.

Weirdly last season's equivalent game showed us that the basic (at the time rubbish League One) team without any of the new signings except Lambert and Harding was actually quite good at competing with Birmingham.

It also helps that the pressure will be off. No anxious expectation from the crowd, I reckon the players will be a lot more relaxed and probably play quite well as a result, even if it's not quite good enough against a Prem side. Who knows. But expectation, anxiety and players trying TOO hard, as we saw on Saturday, can have a big impact.

No - a palindrome is something that reads the same backwards as forwards - like A Man A Plan A Canal Panama

Don't care about the Bolton game - just no injuries please.

So long as it's not a palindromic score. We don't need replays. We need to concentrate on the league.

100% but too late according to Pardew, wanting that winnining mentality. The cups mean absolutely nothing this season in comparison to the League. It's up to the manager, but fail this time in the league because we committed too much in the cups and Cortese will start thinking, here we go again. Or more like, no we don't again and that will be goodbye!

I envy you your youth!:?:p

Our best eleven deserve the opportunity to test themselves against Prem opposition. Hopefully it will show them how much they have to do to improve to reach that level which in turn should make them raise their game against league opposition.

A good run in the FA Cup and JPT seemed to have a positive effect on our league performances last year.

Absolutely they did. We have nothing to lose tonight, apart from potential injuries of course but that could happen in training or when the players are at home cooking bacon and eggs. They're professional footballers. They play football for a living.

The players will want to play against top opposition, and the fans want the same thing. Let's enjoy it, who cares if we lose, as long as we give 100%.

They are ****ing Bolton for crying out loud. An ugly 'Premiership' team who can't pass for toffee and just love to lump it up front for Davies or that Elmander bloke. They will come down here with the attitude you displayed in your post and under estimate us (hence them resting their 'top' players). We CAN beat them, we should have beaten Birmingham last year and certainly would have beaten the Skates if it wasn't for James. If Saints come out, play some nice passing football, we can do them.

That's the old Bolton under the hoofmeister Alardyce. Owen Coyle is developing a good style like he did at Burnley, certainly better than ours at the moment, with players providing width - Petrov and that Korean guy and a decent defensive unit (Jasskaleinen, Cahill and Muamba). Elmander is finalling finding his feet and if he keeps his pre and early season form up, Bolton will be in the top 8.

Anyone gone with the 2/1 on saints tonight?

Good odds. I can see us winning just for wanting it more and being disappointed with Saturday. But after Saturday I can't bring myself to bet on it.

I cant believe the odds on this one really. 2-1 saints (fairly likely scoreline well certainly possible) with Lambert first goalscorer..... 40 / 1!

Give the reserves a run out, save our legs for Bristol and the JPT game next week.

Great thinking. Let's play a full team in the JPT which means nothing. We will play a full side tonight and Saturday and forget the JPT. Couldn't care less about that trophy this year

Pretty sure that the rules of the JPT stop us from playing a complete reserve side.

So they will stop us playing the likes of Bart, Mills, Martin, Seabourne, Oxlade-Chamberlain, Wotton ? Can't see that myself
