Dibden Purlieu Saint Posted 18 August, 2010 Posted 18 August, 2010 I could say the same thing about you and your tiresome assertion that I am a troll, despite having posted on here for a lot longer than you. On this issue, I am simply suggesting that selling could actually be a good thing for us. Most people talk as if us being sold would be an utter disaster when we don't know if it would be (and I suspect it would not be considering our financial health and the fact that Liebherr would not sell us to just anyone.) We have no actual FACTS on this issue but I am giving my comment on the original post. If we want to deal in FACTS then this messageboard would not be posted on at all. You seem to have difficulty accepting an opinion which runs contrary to your own. Please respect my right to an opinion as I respect yours. To be fair I've been posting on iterations of this site since 2004, back when Keith was running Saints Forever. However, I don't disagree with this comment. I think what we need to know is the true financial state of the club.
hypochondriac Posted 18 August, 2010 Posted 18 August, 2010 thanks dps for answering my post without abuse. That's all I ever ask
Bucks Saint Posted 18 August, 2010 Posted 18 August, 2010 I think you have entirely missed my point. ignoring a point, or failing to notice one worth mentioning, is not the same as missing. FWIW
Barry the Badger Posted 18 August, 2010 Posted 18 August, 2010 Thats why you are moaning non-stop, is it ? This is the first time I've ever done a double take at a post :-)
Dalek2003 Posted 18 August, 2010 Posted 18 August, 2010 Patience. The best thing to do now is just to wait and see. In the meantime the best thing to do is aim to win football matches !
Frank's cousin Posted 18 August, 2010 Posted 18 August, 2010 I really hope they stay long term... we finally and in some respects uniquely have been owned by a man who has integrity and in NC has been looking to run the club with a common sence approach to teh financials... if we wer put up for sale at say 20, mil, whats to stop a bunch of tyre kicking chancers who club their assets together and buy us with loans and then transfer that debt to the clubs as was at Manyure? Everyone somehow believes that 'for Sale' means we will be taken over by a decent billionnaire - when Markus and his family are the exception rather than the rule... we could end up with the same sort of crap pompey are in....
Redondo Saint Posted 18 August, 2010 Posted 18 August, 2010 Being debt free does not necessarily make a business a bettter prospect to buy or sell. A sustainable return on investment is generally the attraction.
NickG Posted 18 August, 2010 Posted 18 August, 2010 If we are attractive to a new owner, why arent we still attractive to the Liebherr family ? Especially as they got us cheaper than a new owner will. This is a total non sequitur to me maybe just lack of interest?
alpine_saint Posted 18 August, 2010 Posted 18 August, 2010 maybe just lack of interest? So, what happened to the happy-clappy facade ? Thanks for proving my long-held theory that you are just a WUM.
NickG Posted 18 August, 2010 Posted 18 August, 2010 stop being a troll and unpleasant fan on herel. you asked why they would not want to carry on - they may not have an interest in football or us - perfectly reasonable response. would have thought today, would be one day you could not be a total *****?
Thedelldays Posted 18 August, 2010 Posted 18 August, 2010 Disagree, sorry. He is an employee of the Liebherrs. iof the story about the watch does not give you a clue about a bond between NC and ML...then nothing will

Its not me questioning the intentions / motivations of the sadly-departed owner's family. I have complete faith in them doing the right thing.
NickG Posted 18 August, 2010 Posted 18 August, 2010 (edited) and he goes even lower. Amazing total lack of class - using the death and effect on his family to point score. Edited 18 August, 2010 by NickG
NickG Posted 18 August, 2010 Posted 18 August, 2010 I am not going to discuss it further Alpine as no-one wants to read it and total inappropriate but suggest you read your posts back and do some editing and deleting. I have deliberately not quoted you to allow you to do this.

Dalek2003 Posted 18 August, 2010 Posted 18 August, 2010 There are some very petty squabbles going on. I don't know how people can be like this at such a sad time.
alpine_saint Posted 18 August, 2010 Posted 18 August, 2010 Yeah, I am fed up with it. I bit, stupid me. We are supposed to be paying our respects and I saw red at threads about selling the team without any facts supporting the notion. My apologies to the decent people on this site.
Wade Garrett Posted 18 August, 2010 Posted 18 August, 2010 Seeing as we are now allegedly debt free and with the sad demise of our owner, surely we are now a much more attractive propostion with regards to a sale? I fully appreciate that there are are lot of impondorables in this situation, particularly how motivated the Liebherr family will be in the future. Any thoughts? Sorry, this thread is wrong and shows a lack of respect.

My apologies to the decent people on this site. happy with apology your apology Alpine and for relevant posts to be deleted. I was not criticising the family, thought never crossed my mind. When asking why they would consider selling if club is profitable, their personal choice/lack of interest in football / England etc could all be reasons. Who knows. I hope the family remain. alpine_saint Posted 18 August, 2010 Posted 18 August, 2010 Sorry, this thread is wrong and shows a lack of respect. Yep. Been getting under my skin all day this one has. But Cricketphilly is OK.
modern matron Posted 18 August, 2010 Posted 18 August, 2010 Perhaps some of you should read the thread about the watch and stop this bickering.....
Cricketphilly Posted 19 August, 2010 Author Posted 19 August, 2010 Yep. Been getting under my skin all day this one has. But Cricketphilly is OK. Apololgies to all if I caused any offence, not my attention I assure you. A quite day at work i'm afraid.
dellgirl Posted 19 August, 2010 Posted 19 August, 2010 I think we should thank our lucky stars that the Club is being run properly, efficiently and that there will be no fire sale at the end of the day. We may not like aspects of things we hear about but they are nothing in comparison with our past history which nearly lost us our Club. We will not be pandered to I am sure but a respect of the fanbase will come over time judged on gate receipts and merchandising. We will hear soon enough the immediate plans and I for one look forward to our next game because thank God we have one.
TopGun Posted 19 August, 2010 Posted 19 August, 2010 Something like that. They may also be very mindful and respectful of Markus's wishes. Remember, they are a German-Catholic family, not shallow self-centred vacuous 21st Century English. Hilarious how Alpine knows the Liebherr family so well. Of course they might sell, they could offload now for a profit if they are not really interested in the club.

Of course they might sell, they could offload now for a profit if they are not really interested in the club. I never said I know them. I said I know the sort of people they are, since I work amongst them. I fully understand that people in the UK have such a problem believing that others outside the Anglo-Saxon world still understand the words "decency", "respect" and "loyalty"
simondo Posted 19 August, 2010 Posted 19 August, 2010 relevant thread tuned into the alpine slag match again - God i am so sick of reading this childish behaviour - sure Alpine says some contentious things but thats his issue. say your piece and move on! most of this thread has nothing to do with the actual point of the thread which by the way is a very good thread... apart from honouring ML wishes, why would his family keep the club, and i suspect we will have new owners for christmas..

Havent you answered your own question ? What do you mean "apart from" ? Maybe its important to them.
Saint J 77 Posted 19 August, 2010 Posted 19 August, 2010 who actually officially owns us now anyway? The last thing I want is for Saints to go through another takeover. I really hope the family sticks with us long term.

Saint J 77 Posted 19 August, 2010 Posted 19 August, 2010 I dont know why anyone is even worrying about it. There is not a shred of evidence to suggest it is going to happen. I'm not really worried, it would just be good to have it clarified. what ever happens happens. I've learnt while supporting saints over the years nothing ever goes smoothly for too long. I just would prefer it if things stayed settled.

Saintandy666 Posted 19 August, 2010 Posted 19 August, 2010 I trust NC to get us to the premiership and run us tightly. Not only will he want to do it for Markus, but more importantly his reputation is on the line here. In Cortese we trust.
Viking Warrior Posted 19 August, 2010 Posted 19 August, 2010 Yes sell the club lock stock and two smoking barrels That way some fans will stop arguing about the price of pies what players we should buy, having a snipe at club officials and every thing would be hunky dory again except we wouldnt have a football club again I dispair with the odd comments on the forum , and on this occassion Im not even having a go at Alp. i actually agree with some of his comments on this thread. Who knows what will happen in the future. We thought we were doomed last year and were going out of business and along came Saint Markus and Sir Nicole. Markus was to be hear for the long term until his unfortunate illness snatched him away. His family knew what the club meant to him and regularly attended the games as well > And Im sure they wish to continue with his legacy and we also have his very trusted general as CEO so the club in extremely safe hands for the foreseable future. So lets remain positive and continue to mourn the Loss of Saints Markus. The future is very bright and Markus is shining a very bright light from above down on Southampton fC.
beatlesaint Posted 19 August, 2010 Posted 19 August, 2010 I dont know why anyone is even worrying about it. There is not a shred of evidence to suggest it is going to happen. I agree. The Liebherr family could easily have made an excuse not to travel to Southampton yesterday for the Memorial, they could have stated they were too upset etc. But they didn't - they turned up in numbers - if they didnt know it before they certainly know now just how much Markus was valued. I doesnt look to me like the actions of people who are about to cut the club adrift.
rallyboy Posted 19 August, 2010 Posted 19 August, 2010 Markus and his best friend planned to take Saints back to the Prem. I would wager that Nicola's dedication to his friend's dream is likely to be even stronger today than it was a fortnight ago, I just hope that his positive drive doesn't manifest itself in over-ruthless decision-making. The Liebherr family have a reputation for integrity, their support of the plan that Markus left is likely to be considerable. Leaving aside the fact that some suggest that Nicola does appear to have the knack of breaking too many eggs when making omlettes, he's a man that Markus trusted completely, even if we don't approve of everything he's done or the way that he wants to bring that success, we all want the same thing, and this may be the time to get behind his plans, I for one will certainly cut him more slack than I would have done before, he's lost his best friend. Until Nicola and the Liebherr family watch a Saints team walk out again in the Premiership they will all consider that the last wish of Markus has not been honoured. No one with pride walks away from unfinished business so I would expect Nicola and the family to be guardians of our club future for several years - I wish them every success. The Markus dream is still on track - mind the doors, it's going to be a bumpy ride and we won't be taking prisoners anymore - all aboard.
