Baj Posted 17 August, 2010 Posted 17 August, 2010 Trying to think of places to take the kids for the next few days. Can't be done with the chaos of paulton park etc, but does anyone have any suggestions of places locally they might like to go to?
RedWillie Posted 17 August, 2010 Posted 17 August, 2010 Moors Valley park near Ringwood is good fun - massive woodland trail, play area, steam train etc. Ours love it
moonraker Posted 17 August, 2010 Posted 17 August, 2010 Longleat, good value if you book the all in ticket on line and you don't have to use all of it in one day. We can normally make it stretch to 3 days out, valid until the end of October i think. About an hour from Southampton.
dune Posted 17 August, 2010 Posted 17 August, 2010 Wednesday's sorted. The kids would enjoy being able to wear their Saints kit and mix with other fans while you can pay your respects. http://www.saintsfc.co.uk/page/NewsDetail/0,,10280~2123656,00.html
Spudders Posted 17 August, 2010 Posted 17 August, 2010 Not sure how literally you mean by few days, but if you are including the end of this week Bournemouth Air festival is from Thursday to Sunday. Thursday is worst day though, I’d wait and go Friday onwards. It's free and whilst the kids are looking at planes, you can look at birds as well as planes.
angelman Posted 17 August, 2010 Posted 17 August, 2010 if all else fails, Otter & Owl place at Ashurst can kill some time.
hamster Posted 17 August, 2010 Posted 17 August, 2010 Take them to work with you Baj, teach the little blighters that life ain't all it's cracked up to be. Get them working and teach them to earn their first wage packet. btw, I am not being serious. Take them to The Spinnaker Tower. If you do fancy it let me know, I have a free family ticket that you can have, I won it from Skate Radio, I entered jusr to deprive some skate family getting it. Yours if you want it my friend.
hamster Posted 17 August, 2010 Posted 17 August, 2010 if all else fails, Otter & Owl place at Ashurst can kill by boredom some times. /\ Fixed
Smirking_Saint Posted 17 August, 2010 Posted 17 August, 2010 if all else fails, Otter & Owl place at Ashurst can kill some time. Reptile and raptor center is better
buctootim Posted 17 August, 2010 Posted 17 August, 2010 Could do a lot worse than a day at Butlins at Bognor. I know its cheesepie reputation but its got a really good pool with 5 slides, free fairground and shows during the day and evening. About £24 for a day pass for one adult two kids. My 7 and 5 year old love it
NickG Posted 17 August, 2010 Posted 17 August, 2010 Moors Valley park near Ringwood is good fun - massive woodland trail, play area, steam train etc. Ours love it was just about to add that - most ages enjoy, what age(s) are yours Baj?
Spudders Posted 17 August, 2010 Posted 17 August, 2010 I entered just to deprive some skate family getting it. Classic, Spudgun 'likes'
hamster Posted 17 August, 2010 Posted 17 August, 2010  Classic, Spudgun 'likes' It wasn't the first time Spudgun. I would regulary win crap of their radio station and would always without fail tell them that I was a saints fan, they never once cut me off or called me names, they just kept sending the prizes. Usualy just chuck them in the bin but i thought that the Spinnaker ticket might just qualify as okay.
hamster Posted 17 August, 2010 Posted 17 August, 2010 Marwell Free bus from Eastligh bas station on Sundays, leave every hour. take the boys on an adveture Baj. I shall be there on Sunday...working doh!
warsash saint Posted 18 August, 2010 Posted 18 August, 2010 If your vaccinations are all up together then The Dockyard down in P*mpey is a good day out ..... Victory, boat trip round the harbour, Warrior, Action Stations etc (although no Mary Rose at the moment)
Baj Posted 18 August, 2010 Author Posted 18 August, 2010 Thanks for some excellent suggestions. Little more info. Kids are 2 and 5, dont *really* want to drive more than 30 mins, so that's pretty much andover/southampton/portsmouth/winchester.
Spudders Posted 18 August, 2010 Posted 18 August, 2010 So what you are saying Baj, is that they are not worth you driving an extra few miles! Shocking Baj, absolutely shocking!!!
Baj Posted 18 August, 2010 Author Posted 18 August, 2010 well, I took them to devon for 3 days, so I would prefer to keep them less in the car now
alpine_saint Posted 18 August, 2010 Posted 18 August, 2010 Fleet Air Arm Museum Bovington Tank Museum Isle of Wight (just the ferry ride, the island itself is boring)
dune Posted 18 August, 2010 Posted 18 August, 2010 (edited) I was going to recomend the shell house but it's been destroyed. Many happy childhood memories of that place. RIP The Shell House. http://www.andyfoot.com/the_shell_house.html http://www.britishpathe.com/record.php?id=1833 He collect for the spastics lol. Edited 18 August, 2010 by dune
Draino76 Posted 18 August, 2010 Posted 18 August, 2010 Just taking my boy for a gaming week on the IOW.
Special K Posted 18 August, 2010 Posted 18 August, 2010 Monkey World is ok - longer drive than 30 mins though. Intech centre in Winchester is good fun for nippers, especially the Planetarium.
SuperMikey Posted 18 August, 2010 Posted 18 August, 2010 Beaulieu Motor Museum? Maybe your kids are a bit young Baj, but I remember going there with my dad and brother and absolutely loving it.
warsash saint Posted 18 August, 2010 Posted 18 August, 2010 Fleet Air Arm Museum Bovington Tank Museum Isle of Wight (just the ferry ride, the island itself is boring) Blackgang Chine / Robin Hill far from boring for baj's kids age.....I am sure kids of 2 & 5 are not going to be too rivotted with tanks
latter day saint Posted 18 August, 2010 Posted 18 August, 2010 how about Manor Farm or Longdown Dairy Farm? my nipper is 5 & he loves them. also Staunton Country Park is ok,as long as you drive quickly through Leigh Park
for_heaven's_Saint Posted 18 August, 2010 Posted 18 August, 2010 how about Manor Farm or Longdown Dairy Farm? my nipper is 5 & he loves them. also Staunton Country Park is ok,as long as you drive quickly through Leigh Park Was going to suggest this, they can feed some animals.
Baj Posted 18 August, 2010 Author Posted 18 August, 2010 Cheers again. I come from the island and they've done that and places there to death. Took them to INTECH today and they thought it was great. Taken them to places like longdown, marwell pretty regularly, however, some excellent other suggestions here for friday
Huffton Posted 18 August, 2010 Posted 18 August, 2010 Hurst Castle? Lomg walk along the spit to wear them out then the water taxi back.
Guest Dark Sotonic Mills Posted 18 August, 2010 Posted 18 August, 2010 The new Monkey Chicken Petting Zoo in Fratton?
JustMike Posted 19 August, 2010 Posted 19 August, 2010 I took my tribe to Paultons last week, got there for opening time, queue was pretty big, but had a cunning plan, whilst watching all the other kids run in the direction of the main rides, i took my tribe the other way round, not a soul in site, plus, as your kids are probably too small for most of the rides, this route had all the smaller stuff which they could go on.
