Hants v Leics

Neil McKenzie has been offered a new contract for next season. If he accepts, and the signs are good as he and his wife love it here, then I suspect Benham will be released. He has not really taken the opportunities given him. He is a good player and I am sure a move to one of the more unfashionable clubs and an extended chance to prove himself will see him successful.

Spoke to Corky and let him know what we all feel. He thanked us.

Benni Howell has been in the seconds for the last 3 years. He had his development contract extended for this season and have been making runs in the 2nds. Good to see him getting a chance. Spoke to him late last night. He is not travelling up to Scotland for the weekend as Ervine comes back into the side.

Good to see Abdul Razzaq at the ground last night. His T20 contract is over but he came along anyway.

Christain speaking as he went back to the Airport and back to Aussie said he was not nervous whilst he waited for for the last ball and all that went before. He was calm and in control. But when the ball hit the pad and the appeals went up he just thought, I need to run to the other end. He fully understood how, in the heat of the moment Somerset forgot the rules!

For those who are not sure, when you use a runner you have to remain in your crease. If you do not you risk being stumped, not run out as some in other area's have suggested.

Not entirely sure about that, a batsman is only deemed "stumped" when the wicketkeeper removes the bails after a batsman goes too far forward to play the ball and ends out of his crease, whereas any player can run out a batsman who has left his crease for any other reason, including setting off for a run, as was (inadvertently) the case on Saturday.

Despite what i was told by a club official Steve I think you are right.

1. Out Stumped

(a) The striker is out Stumped if

(i) he is out of his ground

and (ii) he is receiving a ball which is not a No ball

and (iii) he is not attempting a run

and (iv) his wicket is fairly put down by the wicket-keeper without the intervention of another member of the fielding side. Note Law 40.3 (Position of wicket-keeper).

(b) The striker is out Stumped if all the conditions of (a) above are satisfied, even though a decision of Run out would be justified.

8. Transgression of the Laws by a batsman who has a runner

© When a batsman with a runner is striker he remains himself subject to the Laws and will be liable to the penalties that any infringement of them demands.

Additionally, if he is out of his ground when the wicket is put down at the wicket-keeper's end, he will be out in the circumstances of Law 38 (Run out) or Law 39 (Stumped) irrespective of the position of the non-striker or of the runner. If he is thus dismissed, runs completed by the runner and the other batsman before the dismissal shall not be scored. However, the penalty for a No ball or a Wide shall stand, together with any penalties to either side that may be awarded when the ball is dead

I thought McKenzies innings last night was superb, he knew there wasn't much batting to come so took no chances but just placed the ball around the ground.

He took a while to settle but has been brilliant and hope he comes back next year.

Good cameo's from Razza and Dawson.

Mackenzie is a class act and i really hope he signs on for next year. Corky has had such a positive influence on the side and i think that was their 5th straight win in the Pro40. Good times to be a Hampshire fan!

We have a great future, provided we can mix the youth with good experienced players like Corky and Warne. Good role models and great pro's who the young uns can learn plenty from.

One reeeeeeaallly picky observation, we seem to have a wee bit of trouble putting games to bed. 4 times in the last 6 weeks (maybe more) we've been cantering to an easy win and found the finish line hard to cross. Last night wasnt as bad as its been of late - Im thinking Somerset twice, Warwicks in semi as examples off top of my head - but we made the proverbial meal out of it! Good TV but bad for the ticker! Stop it!!
