Thursday 9th September in the Superdome to be precise :)....Where the World Champions, The New Orleans Saints :) kick off the season and their TWO DAT! campaign against the Vikings (Farve on the ground part deux)

The Season Tickets this year are amazing ....they're part of a spiral bound letter sized book!

Are Chelsea world champions because they won the Prem? No.

Are Chelsea world champions because they won the FA Cup? No.

Or is this more american bullshi(t)? Yes.

I know the World Baseball League is named after an old newspaper called 'The World' which started and sponsored the baseball competition and not because it was a worldwide contest, it might be the same thing?

Care to name any other American football team in the World that can lay claim to being the World Champions last year?

When the Britbowl gets something close to equal standing with the Superbowl, you may have a point worth discussing.....

Oh right so we are now saying that the world champion comes from the league which is the highest standard? Many would say that is the Premiership for football. Does that make Chelsea the world champion of football?

No I can't because no Americal Football team can claim to be World Champions if they only play other American teams.

Care to name any other countries that had teams competing in the NFL?

Did the New Orlean Saints play the best teams from other countries in a knockout competition to earn the title "World Champions"?

I feel I'm banging my head against a brick wall.

Actually, I'm gonna claim to be the World Champion at banging my head against a brick wall.

Woo, go me. :vuvu:

If the Broncos win it this year then I think I can safely say that they will be the Champions of the UNIVERSE. Never mind this lightweight 'World Champion' nonsense.

Predictons:

AFC Final - Broncos v Bengals

NFC Final - Saints v Redskins

anyone going to do the fantasy league? http://fantasy.nfl.com/

maybe a TSW mini league?

I'm already in one at work for this site. It's quite a serious thing over here. Some guy in my league plays it for real elsewhere (ie it's a grand or more to enter). Needless to say he won our work league last season.

To be good at it you need a good knowledge of all teams and what all their players are up to. Too much hassle for my liking. It's hard enough knowing who is on the Broncos team most weeks - let alone the other 31.

I'll chuck some players in a team at work and see what happens though. It's a great way to get to learn about the different positions and just how important every player on the pitch is. Even all the big linemen - vital to the team. If one is seen as a weak-link then that is where the opposition will be hitting hardest to make the breakthrough.

Roll on the new season! (though it's kinda started already over here - all the pre-season games are on TV (live or delay). The score doesn't matter but they are quite well contested and it's the best chance to try out fringe-players & new moves).

Well "World Champions" we are. It says so on the official ring 'and' the official banner, soon to be unveiled in the Superdome ......and all your whining and crying about it won't make a damned bit of difference. Except of course to give me a chuckle...... So you better get used to it.

WHO DAT? WE DAT! TWO DAT!

When England drew 1-1 with USA in the world cup, did an american news paper not print a headline saying they had won?

Indeed :)......Went to watch the Saints demolish the Texans game last Saturday.....first pre season game we've ever bothered going to and was amazed to see all the regulars in our section had the same idea....The Dome was packed.....70,025 attendance :)

The teams looking good again this year ....Reggie Bush is on fire and finally showing signs of living up to his potential and the rest of the offence are where they'e always at :)....This is the second year for Greg Williams Monster Defense and it shows...these guys are hungrier, faster and meaner than ever....Expect to see 'Farve on the ground' a lot during the season opener...I hope for his sake the Vikings come with a better plan to protect him than they had the last time, or its going to get ugly.

I didn't see anything on Saturday to make me think we don't have a great chance of a TWO DAT!....Just need a bit of work on our Special Teams and we're good :)...Hell even our backups were wooping up on the Texans long ofter our first team had left the field :)

Good to see you back on form George. Anyone down there into baseball much? If so - what teams are popular? I'm a Cincinnati Reds (COYR!) fan. Having a great season so far as well - it's been good.

Anyway. NFL - what bets has anyone got on then? I've done the usual hopeful accy of the 8 division winners:

AFC

East - Patriots

North - Bengals

South - Colts

West - Broncos

NFC

East - Cowboys

West - 49ers

South - Saints

North - Packers

Pays about 1700/1 - easy money :-)

Plus done singles to win the Superbowl on Broncos, Bengals & Saints.

Broncos are live on Fox Sunday night (8pm ET). A good chance for the nation to see some quality pre-season play :-)

George. As the Saints game is at midday what time do people start tailgaiting?

I'll whoop your ass at cornhole (hopefully you've been in the USA long enough not to get the wrong idea about this statement).

Are there any offy's near the ground that will be open early on the day of the game? Unlike Indiana I assume you can buy take-out beer on a Sunday there?

With the Dome being right on the edge of Downtown New Orleans, there's not a 'huge' amount tailgating, at least not in the way its done in other Cities with out of town stadiums with huge parking lots.....Na, as with everything New Orleans, we have our own style of doing things....There's a bit of tailgating in one or two public parking lots and on some waste ground under the Claiborne bridge on the north side of the Dome...those guys get going from about 7.... Most peeps head for Bourbon St or various other bars around town and things really start to ramp up from around 9 ish......There aint nothin like a NOLA Bloody Mary or two at 9 before a Saints game...Its a tradition here ;)

From about 10, Poydras (main street up to the Dome) is buzzing with peeps, music and alcohol....There always used to be a band on from 10 outside the Dome on 'Bud Bridge' but that was demolished and made way for the new Champions Square, we got to check it out before the Texans game and its awesome. Bigger stage, more food, more alcohol...perfect ;)....so a fair few peeps will be heading there for 10-10:30ish.

Getting take out beer won't be a problem...If you want to load up before you hit Downtown...just call into any Gas Station....There's one at Lee Circle, on the Street car line from your hotel

As for Cornhole...heh I had to google it....Figures, its some dang Yankee thing ;).......http://www.nola.com/saints/index.ssf/2009/12/new_orleans_saints_and_indiana.html

(funny readers comments lol)........."Uh, hate to ask, but how do you play cornhole? Colt fans sure have some strange rituals if it is what I think it is."

Man.....looks like i was right about the Cowgirls....they stunk the place out against the Texans last night lol.....change your pick quick!

heh...just seen the Saints version of the DirecTv Sunday ticket rival add on youtube lol......

Cheers for the info George. I think cornhole is a Midwest thing. Some bars even have cornhole courts/pitches - makes a change from pool or those electronic dartboards they have over here.

Biggest prob for this Saints game is not having a heavy one the night before. In theory you could just stay up all night and not bother going to bed but that never works well in practice.

Tickets are for Terrace End Zone 623. Anywhere near you?

Broncos won quite easily last night. The Steelers without Roethlisberger looked pretty poor. They will struggle for their first 4 (or 6) games without him. Good.

yeah you right about taking it easy the night before... especially here with some of the alcoholic concoctions available ;)

We're in section 557 ..That's almost exact opposite corner to your seats.....Hows Tim Tebow working out for y'all?.....he signed for the Bronco's didn't he?......We went to the Sugerbowl this year and saw him play in his last Collage game...very impressive.

Oh, dont forget to go to Church while you're here

Apparently CH4 are going to be showing a live game once a week

http://www.nfluk.com/tvschedule.html

"Channel 4 have taken on Sunday Night Football coverage, presenting the NFL's showpiece game each week live from 00:55 on Sunday Night / Monday Morning. Gary Imlach hosts the show alongside analysis from Mike Carlson.

Is there a weekly highlights show on any of the "Freeview" channels (for us cheapskates! :) ) or is there only the Channel 4 Sunday Night Football show?

heh....It wouldn't be wise to even 'whisper' that anywhere near New Orleans ;)

Say it in the right way and they will think it is a compliment. Unless LA is diff from the rest of the USA and actually use the word 'w#nker' properly. Round here even the poshest people openly say 'w#nker' in blissful cluelessment. Most of them think it is polite way to call someone an idiot. Not sure where they got that idea from....
