Orient - Must win

so will agree, if we haven't won in first 7 we can have a "must win" thread for the 8th game!

no...we have not agreed.....

all last season the reason for not getting into the playoffs was a poor start....should we have a poor start then that would be...a poor start....

we will win sat IMO anyway

yes - waiting for 8 games left us 1 win away from automatic (or would have done but for penalty) so a slow start like that could cost us - but we hardly would be out of it after 2 games, just as it wouldn't have been in the bag if we won first two games.

They never used to show league tables until something like 6 games in.

sometimes wonder if some on here do!

why is that nick..because we all dont share your happy view...

I was told by the club that we would be building a team for the CCC...so far we have added two RB and a dodgy LB...

where are the rest..

all summer we spoke about the need to get off to a flyer after last seasons poor start...yet we lost our first game and it became obvious that should lambert pull and hammy, get sent off or anything, then we dont look like scoring really...I know I know you will say about the cherries...

I want us off to a flyer...I really do and I hope our "season starts" saturday...if not, then we are playing catch up yet again

I think you support saints.

I think your dodgy LB comment sums up the cracking support on here.

so far yes...he looked a bit suspect when he went LB against Plymouth...and was subbed for harding against the cherries...

so far, yeah, a bit suspect...should he improve...then he will no longer be dodgy...

puts in a cracking cross mind....maybe his future lies ahead of harding...???

we lost our first game
Our first and ONLY game. Remind me how last year's champions got on in their first game?

Pardew made it VERY clear this week that our mongy fans played a large part in us getting nothing out of the Plymouth game.

But yeah, you must be right, it's perfectly fine to be negative for no reason.

is that a fact...or your opinion..?

opinion, but was a lot better imho.

Was probably our best player in Reading game, not seen anything to justify a saints fans slagging him off but guess thats par for the course on here

all about opinions, I think that is wrong, unnecessarily slagging player off and not giving him a chance, but its up to you!

every game is a must win and a should win for the L1's Man City and league favs.....spesh at home.

cant beleive that some happy clappers will be happy for us to lose the 1st 7 games......just so long as we win the 8th. WTF!! mental

I don't think anyone is saying that.

Delldays thinks it's a must win game, as does Alpine Saint, as does Glasgow Saint.

As it's so crucial will you all be in attendance to cheer the team on?

I think it's a game we must win and I'll be there. What's your point?

Some people are more interested in point scoring than actually listening to what people are saying.

I think the troube with using the phrase must win is there's no context, why do you think we must win?

Is it....

We must win because 6 points will be too far behind to catch up?

or...

We must win because if not the players confidence will suffer and it could lead to more defeats?

The first is a bit over the top, but the second is a pretty reasonable statement IMO.

I agree...I meant must win in order to get us off the mark..to get back into winning habit in the league...so we are not playing catch up again etc..

not that if we dont win then season over....

I think everyone understood what you meant and most should/would agree we need a win to get us on our way.

Some people have decided to twist the things u say to try and points score and thats unfair to you and me and shirley and windmill arms 2

The points scoring is silly, as is this thread.

Personally I'd be happy to see us lose to Orient then go on to a 20 game winning streak.

ok....you dont see it as a must win.....fair enough..

no need to be bloody rude about it

I was addressing Nick.

I was also typing really slowly so you could keep up when you were reading it. If you think THAT'S "bloody rude" you must be livibg a very sheletered envorinoment.

You think its "must win", meaning if we don't then absolute zero chance of promotion? Do you really? I mean really really think that? if so, are you prepared to offer a wager? I will bet on the 0% long (impossible) shot, and you, fair fellow that you no doubt are, will offer me handsome odds on your "certainty".

But no, you won't, will you?

The problem is that "must win" has started being used as "would be useful to win". Which doesnt really mean anything.

Not just on this thread, but in football generally.

Guess we need a different term for games that really are must wins....such as Saints v Sheff Utd in May 2008.

Do you think that the people on here who over react after ONE GAME of the season are also the sort of people who would consider themselves lost if they take one wrong turning in their car?? lol Do you think those same people would bother commenting if we had won, to say we are now going to win the league??

Of course not......they are just attention seekers who like winding people up, and who like to think the worst of situations. It makes me laugh, really...I get a mental picture of Dad's Army and Corporal Jones running around shouting "Don't panic"....lol

I don't believe there are ANY Saints fans out there who were happy that we failed to win (I know I wasn't, and went to bed in a foul mood after watching the game on the internet down here), but most of them don't tend to over-react in the same manner. I don't think Saints fans are any worse than any other club either, and in the main I do believe we are better than most - certainly better than the blue few down the road!!

WIFM...

This thread makes fascinating reading.

Apparently, there is no pressure on us to start winning according to some, but the very same people reckon we are nailed on for promotion. Bizarre.

Lads, in order to be promoted, you need to have more points than the rest of the league. Did you know that ?

The longer it takes for us to start winning, the more steep a curve our form needs to take for the rest for the season.

I really wonder what justifies this complaicency that suddenly we will wake up one day, everything will click, (and apart from the odd Wycombe result which apparently according to the very same people are freak results that not only cannot be avoided, we shouldnt even try) and we will hammer everyone else in the league and this day will happen when it is convenient and with sufficient games left to win the league.

3 words : CLOUD COOKOO LAND. We were supposed to hit the ground running this season. So far we are staggering along like we have a hangover.

Apparently, pre-season didnt matter, then the first game didnt matter, now certain utterly deluded happy clappers reckon the first 6 games dont matter, because the team will nailed-on get the same results and level of performance this season, Rickie Lambert will score the same amount of goals, we will magically get the same attacking options somehow, despite having lost two players and all variation from that attack, etc. etc.

There is some real delusion going on in these parts currently. We are heading for mid-table mediocrity-to-playoffs scrape at this rate.

might see how few more games go, maybe have a chance to salvage something

"salvage something" ???

Bizarre. You sermonise us about our concerns, then demonstrate you have no faith in the team either.

I've just about read it all on here now. This post shows some on here really are just interested in the point-scoring and arguing.

That's not what this thread is saying - no-one is happy to wait 7 games for a win, thinks it likely or think that we will have good chance of promotion if we do

What people are saying is that it is ridiculous to say this is a "must win" game, any more or less than others - I would not have been celebrating promotion if we had won first two games, and won't give up if we lose first two.

That's a big statement seeing as we've played two whole games this season (granted only one in the league) and we've one 50% of those the result againt bournemouth looks even better after they stuffed the posh 5-1 on Saturday. I'd agree with some of what your saying if we're not winning after a few matches but after one league match where our two best players didn't start I'm not going to get upset yet.

I dont think it is a big a statement. When you put aside the usual "Saints at the beginning of the season" drag factor, I defy anyone to deny that, looking at our achievements from last season, they expect a more convincing statement from the team right from the very first whistle than we have seen.
