SOTONS EAST SIDE Posted 1 October, 2008 Posted 1 October, 2008 Is going back to a more english system, the end for the Total football experiment! YOUR VIEWS!
Greenridge Posted 1 October, 2008 Posted 1 October, 2008 Didn't look like 4-4-2 to me if you are referring to last night? More like 4-2-1-3. Both Surman and Cork seemed to be very central in front of the two CB's with Lallana in a free roll and Robertson, Peckart and DMG up front (then switched to BWP / Robertson / DMG). It was this lack of wide midfilders that seem to cause us problems when Norwich attacked as there was no protection for James and Mills. On the attack we look very dangerous but we also looked exposed when they attacked us down the flanks.
washsaint Posted 1 October, 2008 Posted 1 October, 2008 ummmmm......we did not play 4-4-2 last night. It was the usual formation as far as I could see. The good news is we are starting to look far more solid (but not watertight) at the back.
Scummer Posted 1 October, 2008 Posted 1 October, 2008 Looked like pretty much the same system we've been playing all season to me. Wasn't 442.

I would like to think that Poortvliet had enough intelligence to realise that TOTAL "Total Football" was NOT getting us any results in the CCC Therefore, credit to him to changing things to what I call a "mixture" of "total" and "reality" Football, which has of late, started to get us results Once he sorts out the Defence, then we should start to get hard to beat ............ but he MUST sort the defence out ......... Kelvin Davis kept us in it again last night, else things could have turned out differently IMHO
Bailey Posted 1 October, 2008 Posted 1 October, 2008 Didn't look like a 4-4-2 system last night. They started up like so . . . --------------------- Davis ------------------- James ------ Lancashire ------ Perry ------ Mills ---------------- Cork ----- Surman ------------ McGoldrick ---------- Lallana ------------ Robertson -------------------- Pekhart ------------------- Subs: Forecast, BWP, White, Patterson, Skacel
Scudamore Posted 1 October, 2008 Posted 1 October, 2008 And whilst it has been said before i'll labour the point...total football is NOT about a formation
