up and away Posted 13 August, 2010 Share Posted 13 August, 2010 Despite my passion for Saints, I find it quite strange that I have been so moved by the events of the last two days. Watching and listening to the tributes from others who like me never knew Markus but somehow felt a very special bond with him, was quite difficult to be honest. And I am not sure how I'm going to react at the next home game - it's going to be extremely emotional. It's absolutely clear that Markus felt a deep affinity with Saints supporters, acquired over a relatively short period of time and for me this accentuates in a way how much he took us to his heart pretty much unconditionally. When you really think about how uncomplicated this wonderful man was in his investment in Saints, the things that really matter in life seem to be so much clearer. Markus was a highly intelligent and responsible man and I feel certain that he will have ensured that his legacy will live on with us for as long as we allow it. One thing is absolutely crystal clear to me now - the supporters of this great club must pull together and roar the team onto success after success in the name and memory of Markus. Anything less would be a complete and utter disgrace in my view. I can only underline everything you have written here, my sentiments exactly. As a football club owner, this guy was exceptional. I will keep repeating, even the Carlsberg adverts could not portray such a club owner, we well and truly won the lottery when Liebherr decided to take us under his wing. Even to the extent of ensuring our future past his own demise, truly remarkable for someone we have only had the pleasure of knowing for such a short space of time. I have never had much time for the JPT, seeing it as a non entity distracting us from the real issues. I am now so glad, even happy we went this route so Markus had the pleasure of that Wembly win. So, so glad he had something that must have repeated in his dreams many times. Normally I never care much past what I believe is best for Saints, but in this case I put the man before such feelings. When you get a person of such power, showing the humility and love for something we have been saddled with since conception, it is truly remarkable, accentuated by all the previous politics. kpturner Posted 13 August, 2010 Share Posted 13 August, 2010 (edited) I called a close friend of mine when I heard about Markus, I was in floods of tears and he really didnt understand why I was crying....It is very sad news and it did make me reflect somewhat for a while.......but "floods of tears" seems way OTT. I dread to think what you would be like if someone really close to you pops their clogs. I do agree that a large gathering of people at the next match can and will stir up the emotions a bit though. Always does for me. Edited 13 August, 2010 by kpturner
kpturner Posted 13 August, 2010 Share Posted 13 August, 2010 All you're acheiving now (intentionally or not) is to somewhat belittle peoples emotions on this matter.Don't agree. If people want to share their reactions in a public forum then it is OK for people to comment if they think it is a little odd. If my reaction to this news was a little OTT it might help me find some perspective if I am given some feedback.
alpine_saint Posted 13 August, 2010 Share Posted 13 August, 2010 SOG, I have always had trouble figuring out how your mind works, but your posts on this thread are just plain f**king bizarre. I really think you are going too far with the anti-NC-and-anyone-who-gives-him-time-of-day thing.
Barry the Badger Posted 13 August, 2010 Share Posted 13 August, 2010 The comment in isolation is not a problem, but that particular forum member has spent the last 2 days continually telling everybody over and over and over again that he isn't really that bothered about Markus' death. I get the impression he's just trying to push peoples buttons, and it's wearing a little thin.
saintjinksie Posted 13 August, 2010 Share Posted 13 August, 2010 dilligaf, doesnt affect me i didnt know him. just some figurehead in th background. will not make one iota of difference to my life of saints viewing. Sorry to be heartless but it seems as though we are overreacting a little, i found it insulting the comparison made to ted bates in the echo the other day too. I think that you are being the insuting one. If Markus hadn`t turned up a year ago, I think that it would have made a whole shed-load of iotas difference to your Saints viewing. Heartless? More ignorant I would say. Edited 13 August, 2010 by miserableoldgit

If you knew your comments were "heartless", why did you bother posting them? It doesn't say too much for you, does it? Especially as the man in question has allowed you to continue to have a "life of saints viewing." That's yet another in an ever-longer list of the kind of needless, sneering posts that are dragging this forum ever lower. God, I despair at some of the people who post on here these days. hughieslastminutegoal Posted 13 August, 2010 Share Posted 13 August, 2010 This. I'm not unduly concerned about the long-term future of the club, with no debt to any banks and the Guardian suggesting that the money Markus invested initially to repay those debts has been converted to equity, even if the Liebherr dynasty decided they wanted to walk away, the club is still in a fantastic position financially. I genuinely believe that we wouldn't require someone with masses of cash at their disposal, because the fanbase and assets we have ensure that the club will be self-sufficient. As for the rows, reports and rumours that have been circulating in recent months, they're entirely irrelevant at this time. I don't want to rain on anyone's parade, but Saints are only as debt free as the owner(s) for the time being want it so. If (and I'm not saying it's on the cards yet) they put a "debt-free" club up for sale they will expect to get more money for it. If whoever bought it borrowed money to do it, and then secured the loan agains club assets, we wouldn't any longer be debt free. So being currently debt free guarantees nothing by itself. Have you been watching what has happened at Liverpool and Man U at all?
Wilko Posted 13 August, 2010 Share Posted 13 August, 2010 I've gone from sadness, to mild annoyance at the MK Dons game being called off, back to sadness again. That's about it, really.
LA77 Posted 13 August, 2010 Share Posted 13 August, 2010 What a great thread. I agree with what's been said. I was talking about the JPT Final with my mate as we celebrated our fine win, and we were both pleased to have gone with our old fellas. My Dad is 60 in January and his old man is 65. To have that special day at Wembley (and all the other games for that matter) with your loved ones is one of the reasons why the passing of Markus is so sad. The smile on his face as he waved to the fans, and the way he was like a kid in a sweet shop with his camera at Wembley, made him out to be like one of our dads, not a bilionaire owner. He humbled so many of us in that special way that money can't buy, with class and love.
corsacar saint Posted 13 August, 2010 Share Posted 13 August, 2010 Markus loved this club,we as fans love this club, that says it all really. It is very sad Markus could not see the journey through to its fruition.[All the so called fans on here, who are basically just glad to have a club to support, and are some how, totally indifferent to the passing of a wonderful human being, should go and have a very hard look at themselves in a large mirror].
