Matthew Le God Posted 12 August, 2010 Posted 12 August, 2010 (edited) http://www.mali-group.com/en/home/ Ladies and gentlemen, dear business partners, dear friends of MALI, Our CEO and founder of MALI, Mr. Markus Liebherr, died on Monday night this week. We are shocked by his untimely death. The lack of his presence will be a painful challenge for us all. Those close to him will remember him to be modest, quiet, well disposed, intelligent and talented. His professional and entrepreneurial vision was firm; he was committed to this vision tirelessly and selflessly until his last hour. Please be assured that we all will continue to carry out his vision. Ms. Katharina Liebherr is determined to continue the legacy of her father and his ideas for the future entirely in the interest of servicing existing as well as winning new MALI customers. For this she receives the full support of the entire MALI team. Please allow us to pause for a moment before we dedicate ourselves fully to you again, our valued customers. Together with you we want to keep a brilliant mind alive. Thank you for your sympathy and understanding. Wettingen, August 12, 2010 - As he died on Monday night (and not Wednesday as everyone thought) I'm sure Alan Pardew would have been aware. His post match comments on Tuesday of supporters needing to get behind the team etc - Maybe the team knew aswell, never seen a post match huddle before from Saints. - His daughter has taken over the MALI group, maybe she will take over at Saints as well, with Cortese running it for her (as hinted at on the OS, Telegraph and Guardian) Edited 12 August, 2010 by Matthew Le God
NickG Posted 12 August, 2010 Posted 12 August, 2010 Someone commented on cortesse going straight off at end of game without clapping -this would explain it
Matthew Le God Posted 12 August, 2010 Author Posted 12 August, 2010 Shame the last Saints match for him was the Plymouth game and not Bournemouth.
the saint in winchester Posted 12 August, 2010 Posted 12 August, 2010 MLG, thanks for posting that. As you suggest, one would assume at least Cortese and Pardew knew before the game, maybe even the players. I note they are "shocked at his untimely death." Of course, no death is timely. Should we read into this that his death was a surprise, rather than the result of an existing known illness. Maybe we know more soon, maybe we won't. But yes, it does explain AP's comments we need to be supporters of our club, not critics. UTS. WIFM!!!
Saintandy666 Posted 12 August, 2010 Posted 12 August, 2010 I would be extremely happy if Southampton was to transfer to her. I'm sure she would take good care of us as Markus Liebherr's daughter.
MINIBARCELONASAINT Posted 12 August, 2010 Posted 12 August, 2010 Alex Oxlade Chamberlain didn't know till last night.
Webby Posted 12 August, 2010 Posted 12 August, 2010 No place for women at football. Or small toy dogs.
Matthew Le God Posted 12 August, 2010 Author Posted 12 August, 2010 Source? For the opening post? It is on the MALI group website.
Saint_clark Posted 12 August, 2010 Posted 12 August, 2010 Shame the last Saints match for him was the Plymouth game and not Bournemouth. He may have known the result, but he wouldn't have heard the boos at the end. Thank god as well, I would have felt incredibly guilty if those boos were his last memory of SFC...
exit2 Posted 12 August, 2010 Posted 12 August, 2010 I think Andy Oldknow is coming in some capacity, the only reason being he was in at the start, and now in the echo he has appeared.
Matthew Le God Posted 12 August, 2010 Author Posted 12 August, 2010 I think Andy Oldknow is coming in some capacity, the only reason being he was in at the start, and now in the echo he has appeared. Appeared doing what in the Echo?
Crab Lungs Posted 12 August, 2010 Posted 12 August, 2010 Unlikely as he died on Monday and the game was on Tuesday. I think you'll find he could be referring to the Plymouth game...
Saint_clark Posted 12 August, 2010 Posted 12 August, 2010 Unlikely as he died on Monday and the game was on Tuesday. I'm talking about Plymouth...
saint_mears Posted 12 August, 2010 Posted 12 August, 2010 I think his daughter was vice president of the mali group so it would appear the right move.
hypochondriac Posted 12 August, 2010 Posted 12 August, 2010 I think Andy Oldknow is coming in some capacity, the only reason being he was in at the start, and now in the echo he has appeared. good good. Communication seemed better under him.
exit2 Posted 12 August, 2010 Posted 12 August, 2010 Appeared doing what in the Echo? http://www.dailyecho.co.uk/sport/saints/news/8328645.Hope_that_Liebherr_s_vision_is_fulfilled/
saint_mears Posted 12 August, 2010 Posted 12 August, 2010 Not sure that photo is correct to be honest as i think thats christina liebherr
Dave Benson Phillips Posted 12 August, 2010 Posted 12 August, 2010 I think Andy Oldknow is coming in some capacity, the only reason being he was in at the start, and now in the echo he has appeared. I am not getting into a pro/anti Cortese debate, now is not the time. But if it is true that Oldknow is coming back, then in my opinion it will be as Chairman and Cortese will leave. I would be massively surprised if the two of them worked together. Far to early to speculate though, and probably not the best time to either.
Matthew Le God Posted 12 August, 2010 Author Posted 12 August, 2010 http://www.dailyecho.co.uk/sport/saints/news/8328645.Hope_that_Liebherr_s_vision_is_fulfilled/ I don't think anything in that suggests he is coming back. I think the Echo just gave him a ring for an interview.
Saint 76er Posted 12 August, 2010 Posted 12 August, 2010 Has she been to a saints game? Wasn't this the lady with riding type trousers that was spotted emerging from a Range Rover with Markus when he first inspected the club? Much was made of it at the time. In the above picture she rather appears to be wearing a Swiss horse riding outfit. The Liebherr family do seem to have a tradition of passing down their business interests to keep them as strictly family run enterprises. Hopefully this will continue with Saints and the club can continue for many years to be associated with the Liebherr family so that we can maintain an emotional link with Markus to remember all that he has done for us. He was a true Saint and will now be a club legend. Message to the team... WIFM
saintscottofthenortham Posted 12 August, 2010 Posted 12 August, 2010 I don't think anything in that suggests he is coming back. I think the Echo just gave him a ring for an interview. Exactly. Usual practice for the echo. Amazing what some people will read into things.

Stu, Im not saying he is for definate but I have a feeling that he might be in line for some role, it is a total personal opinion, I havent been told anything, justa gut feeling or perhaps he is trying to offer his services again? If there is such thing as a "trust" fund available for the club then I see NC looking after that as well as all of ML other business interests so a CEO opening will appear

One thing Oldknow will do it make the club ALOT more fan friendly. I have heard his blueprint regarding community/supporter interaction ( when he was last at the club ) and it was impressive, well anyone can see it for themselves to some extent, because the Supporters Charter was his baby. Hence when he left... the charter went with him and we reverted to where we are now.

Perhaps Cortese knew that Markus was dying and was so consumed by that and the need to show the club being as successful as possible that he lost his way a little? I suppose we will find out but if Oldknow comes back it should be welcomed.

waggy Posted 12 August, 2010 Posted 12 August, 2010 Here is the link to the site that this thread is about: http://www.mali-group.com/en/home/ Markus appears to be wearing an SFC tie in the picture?
S-Clarke Posted 12 August, 2010 Posted 12 August, 2010 Here is the link to the site that this thread is about: http://www.mali-group.com/en/home/ Markus appears to be wearing an SFC tie in the picture? i'm sure he is, he updated his Mali website earlier this year with him wearing his saints scarf. I always felt that was a lovely touch and showed what a genuine fella he was.
astrasri Posted 12 August, 2010 Posted 12 August, 2010 Where is this tripe about Oldknow returning come from? Marcus was the owner who left the running to NC, so with the sad demise of the owner how does that create a vacancy for another operating executive? The operating 'team' remains intact.
ART Posted 12 August, 2010 Posted 12 August, 2010 I certainly hope all this type of speculation isn't going to turn into a Burke and Hare dissection of the body. Let us show some respect, at least till the funeral. I hope that the Admins will be quick to shut down threads they move away from respectful discussion. With regard to the mention of Katharina Liebherr, my memory recalls during the Administration the sighting at St Mary's of a very beautiful lady with a sports car with Swiss number plates. Perhaps this would have been Katharina. Andrew Oldknow has as much chance of returing to the board as Rupert Lowe being called in. Speculating, I might say the thought that it may have been Rupert Lowe or Andrew Cowan who got Nicolas Cortese interested in the club to start with. Certainly some of the dark Lord's business tactics seem very close to Mister Cortese's heart.
martel Posted 12 August, 2010 Posted 12 August, 2010 Has she been to a saints game? Not sure about that, but I have a feeling that she may have been to St Mary's, do you remember last year when potential buyers were coming in, they had a photograph of what was described at the time as the Swiss Contingent outside of St Mary"s; I am sure their was a young women in the photo; it may well not be her of course, just putting two and two together and probably getting five.

Marcus was the owner who left the running to NC, so with the sad demise of the owner how does that create a vacancy for another operating executive? The operating 'team' remains intact. It depends if NC will have the same motivation. I expect it was talked about before his death and the situation will emerge in a few days.
derry Posted 12 August, 2010 Posted 12 August, 2010 Oldknow was brought in by NC because of his previous with SFC. He also cleared his desk and left in a hurry. It would be a major U turn by NC. We all know NC doesn't do U turns.
NickG Posted 12 August, 2010 Posted 12 August, 2010 Has she been to a saints game? yes quite a few I think
NickG Posted 12 August, 2010 Posted 12 August, 2010 Nah. Oldknow got them involved. It's why he stayed on afterwards. think AO said Cortesse contacted him to find out more after NC had made approach to Fry.
hypochondriac Posted 12 August, 2010 Posted 12 August, 2010 think AO said Cortesse contacted him to find out more after NC had made approach to Fry. Did he? I would be interested to see that.
NickG Posted 12 August, 2010 Posted 12 August, 2010 Andy Oldknow was approached by the Swiss group backed by Liebherr to give expert advice and consultation on the potential purchase of the club due to his knowledge of Saints after a spell as commercial director.

Never says he wasn't the one who sounded them out first of all. That's what I was led to believe.
NickG Posted 12 August, 2010 Posted 12 August, 2010 not big issue, but thought that was bit of an assumption as he was ex-saints and involved with them. Only things I have ever read are that Cortesse was aware, approached Markus about it and when he was interested contacted AO.

Thedelldays Posted 12 August, 2010 Posted 12 August, 2010 How was Cortese aware though? you do realise the club was for sale...dont you..?
NickG Posted 12 August, 2010 Posted 12 August, 2010 How was Cortese aware though? No idea, but would think if from AO would have been said
hypochondriac Posted 12 August, 2010 Posted 12 August, 2010 If that was a reply to me Delldays, you are on ignore so I can't see what you are saying.
Smirking_Saint Posted 12 August, 2010 Posted 12 August, 2010 Has she been to a saints game? She is stood next to him in the tribute video i think
beatlesaint Posted 12 August, 2010 Posted 12 August, 2010 I didn't know Mr Liebherr had a daughter. Niether did I, but it reafirms my confidence that we will continue to be owned by the Liebherr family. You can be pretty sure that any daughter would want to see out her fathers wishes in such circumstances. As Markus was a hands off owner she would presumably carry on that role and let NC oversee the day to day running of the club. Her fathers wish was to see us back in the Premiership. I would think that is now her wish, for him.
