Maybe we could do something as a tribute for next home game?

Sorry for a new thread but i was thinking as a forum maybe there is something we as a group could do as a tribute to Markus?

Re-naming of the stands would be out of our control as it is not something we have the power to do.

But as a group maybe we could get money together to do something at our next home game. Like a huge banner, fly by etc..

I think we need to show our support for the next home game and as much as having his face on the banner and signing posts off with WIFM that won't be visable at the game.

In the past the mods have done this type of thing very well i.e the player sponsorship and other events. Maybe they could set up some paypal thing where we could donate money and that money is in turn then used to fund something which would act as a thank you from everyone here?

Just an idea.

I imagine the club will do a mosaic with "R.I.P Markus" on.

On another note... can't we just have one 'tribute' thread rather than lots of people trying to be the one and publicise their own thoughts?

Why not just go to the stadium, lay some flowers or a scarf over the weekend, buy a ticket for the Orient game and turn up/take part in any memorial that the club decide is appropriate for him?

Or is that too simple?

In all due respect Dave could you please not post in this thread thanks. I don't want it going the way of all your other threads. It isn't about having one thread etc.. The other thread was talking about how to do a tribute in terms of big gestures. We can't make a statue, and we can't change the name of the stadium or stands. They will be done by the club. We as a group can do something to show our support in a visable way at the next game. Something that is realistic that we can do and do in a short space of time. That is why this thread is different. But as i said if you could not post in this thread it would be really appreciated.

He is entitled to his opinion as long as it is sensible and constructive. It was so your response is extremely bizarre. I imagine the club will have something planned. Maybe it would be a good idea to contact them.

I respectfully reserve my right to post on any thread I wish. :D

I think everyone is getting a bit hysterical. The club will no doubt give us the opportunity to thank Markus. There is a book of condolance and you are free to go and pay your respects at St Marys over the next few days.

All in my honest opinion, obviously.

As said above we as a group should do something. Why should we leave it to the club to do something? And he is entitled to an opinion but as with everything it is one of negativity. And yours is one of defence. I asked him not to post as the point is not about arguing which you always seem so intent to do. The point is as Saints fans we should do something to show our respect for the guy at the next home game. We should not expect the club to act on our behalf.

This.

I would say that if there is a minutes silence, singing arses off during the game, and the ad-hoc memorial growing outside the stadium, that the fans will have honoured Markus already in their own way.

How about a plane to fly over the ground with a banner trailing saying 'Thank You Markus. A Saint forever'.

If you remember we managed to chip in and arrange it once before for slightly different reasons.

I agree something should be done by the fans in appreciation of a man that saved our club, i've said on another thread the best way is to have a full house at the orient game and sing, clap and cheer for 90 mins. Don't let up, keep it going for the full 90!!!!

Agree Alpine.

This not just for us, the fans, it also would send a message to all who were close to Markus showing how much we all respected and loved him. It would confirm to them what a great club this is, and how Markus had made the right choice in buying us.

Just a suggestion which is free and can involve anyone who is attending the game and also those who might wish to join in and aren't attending the game:

When Southampton fans wanted to protest against the club, everyone met at the Bargate and marched to the ground singing songs and protesting. Why don't Saints fans all meet up and as one march to the ground singing songs about the great man.

This would also get a lot of media coverage and would be a great way for everyone to get involved.

Just a thought :)

Some sort of montage, like we had after Bally passed away would be pretty good IMO. Might be tricky to organise, but would look great if we could fill the ground. Have a Swiss flag in the Chapel and "Thank you Markus" written in the Kingsland".

Agree - we should do anything and everything that we possibly can to thank this great man for saving our club

I'm in, a massive banner would be awesome and could be used in future big games.

Agree - something like this that could be used in the future as we hopefully celebrate success would remind us all that without Markus none of it would be happening.

I think the best tribute to the great man would be to sing his name throughout the Orient game and banish the negativity that Pardew was on about in his post match interview the other night. Let's be united in grief and united in tribute to get Saints promoted for Markus.

Fantastic idea...easily done, and would unite the fans. Even most recently in the pompey game seeing the town filled with saints fans was brilliant anyway!! Someone please get this off the ground!

This. Can't think of a better tribute.

And extend the negativity banishment to the whole season.

fill the ground

I will be so disappointed if we do not sell out for Orient game - if we can take 50,000 to Wembley then 30,000 to say thank you and farewell to the guy that saved our club is surely a given?

i would love to see a banner or a flag resident at this game and future games. Obvioulsy singing and selling out will be good and now there is time to get things orgnised for proper send off.

Understand what some mean about getting down the stadium but not all of us live locally or can afford the money to get down.

I hope so too, wish I could make the game, will hopefully get down when I can to sign the book of condolences. Would love to make it to the orient game though, and I would implore anyone that can to make it down there and just get behind the team for the whole game, before, during and afterwards, no matter what the result on the day is!

The Orient programme is going to be a tough read. Maybe the Club could allow the fans to write tributes and publish the lot in a pull-out?

A really 'must do' though is for steve and baj to send a simple floral tribute from "All on the SWF'. I saw some lovely floral arrangements at the crematorium a couple of weeks ago, I think they were there from Malcolm (the 41 yell old saints fan who died a couple of weeks back, sorry I can't remember his full name). Do we know when?where the service is being held? Will it be a private affair? It would be nice if the mourners could get to read a simple card saying"from all of your friends in the stands at St Mary's. We love you. xx"
