Golden Balls Posted 11 August, 2010 Posted 11 August, 2010 Obviously for MK Dons and Leyton Orient the main chant will be "One Markus Liebherr" but I think we need a few more to show our thanks as well as a 'win the league for Markus' chant Any ideas? RIP
Michelle Posted 11 August, 2010 Posted 11 August, 2010 There is one that has been doing the rounds at away games... does involve slating the skates and 'arry though, so maybe not quite so appropriate as a tribute unless we change the last bit!
Golden Balls Posted 11 August, 2010 Author Posted 11 August, 2010 How about changing Michael Svenssons song to something fitting for Markus? Svensson song was to the tune of 'I love you baby..' Oh Michael Svensson You are the love of my life Oh Michael Svensson I'll let you **** my wife Oh Michael Svensson We want ginger hair tooooo Maybe... Oh Markus Liebherr You came and saved our club oh Markus Liebherr (something here) Oh Markus Liebherr We will always miss yoooou
latter day saint Posted 11 August, 2010 Posted 11 August, 2010 Maybe we could alter the words to 'Candle in the Wind' by Elton John into an appropriate anthem ? wot a c*ck!
The Fat Controller Posted 11 August, 2010 Posted 11 August, 2010 Just the chorus to "hey Jude" to "La la la Liebherr"
Barry the Badger Posted 11 August, 2010 Posted 11 August, 2010 I think the one we sang for him before. Liebherr wonderland.
shurlock Posted 11 August, 2010 Posted 11 August, 2010 Maybe we could alter the words to 'Candle in the Wind' by Elton John into an appropriate anthem ? You also like packing fudge?
dickyhale Posted 11 August, 2010 Posted 11 August, 2010 Here is a suggestion: Rest in peace Markus Liebherr! Rest in peace as a saint! Also, Southampton football club Is in your hands! scott_saints Posted 11 August, 2010 Posted 11 August, 2010 That's a good idea and could catch on easily.

for_heaven's_Saint Posted 11 August, 2010 Posted 11 August, 2010 You are our Liebherr, Our Markus Liebherr, You made us happy, When skys were grey. You'll never know just, How much we love you, Please don't take our Liebherr away.
1976_Child Posted 11 August, 2010 Posted 11 August, 2010 You are our Liebherr, Our Markus Liebherr, You made us happy, When skys were grey. You'll never know just, How much we love you, Please don't take our Liebherr away. nice, but we need to keep it simple so all can join in.
SFKA South Woodford Posted 11 August, 2010 Posted 11 August, 2010 Just the chorus to "hey Jude" to "La la la Liebherr" Like that, nice and uplifting 'which is what he did for our club, seems right that we should remember him that way', with the whole ground getting involved it would sound fantastic and bring a tear to the eye. Or possibly changing the lyrics to 'You take me up' by the Thompson twins to something more fitting.
Jimmy_D Posted 11 August, 2010 Posted 11 August, 2010 Very apt. Excellent suggestion. The words say it all. Its down to him that Saints are still able to Go Marching On... Glory glory Markus Liebherr, Glory glory Markus Liebherr Glory glory Markus Liebherr ...and the Saints Go Marching On On On... Liking that.
Saint_lambden Posted 11 August, 2010 Posted 11 August, 2010 We love you Markus we do...OOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOH Markus we love you! ?
Lance Posted 12 August, 2010 Posted 12 August, 2010 Or how about putting negativity to one side, the minutes applause and 25k+ getting behind the team putting us on the road to The Premier League like he wanted???????
SaintBobby Posted 12 August, 2010 Posted 12 August, 2010 Very apt. Excellent suggestion. The words say it all. Its down to him that Saints are still able to Go Marching On... Glory glory Markus Liebherr, Glory glory Markus Liebherr Glory glory Markus Liebherr ...and the Saints Go Marching On On On... This. Definitely this.
for_heaven's_Saint Posted 12 August, 2010 Posted 12 August, 2010 Or how about putting negativity to one side, the minutes applause and 25k+ getting behind the team putting us on the road to The Premier League like he wanted??????? I don't see how singing his name is negative.
Master Bates Posted 12 August, 2010 Posted 12 August, 2010 Hopefully the guy who done the Alan Ball tribute song is thinking of one for Sir Liebherr right now.
The Hoff Posted 12 August, 2010 Posted 12 August, 2010 You are our Liebherr, Our Markus Liebherr, You made us happy, When skys were grey. You'll never know just, How much we love you, Please don't take our Liebherr away. You are our leader, Our Markus Liebherr, You saved our loved saints, When skys were grey. And now your resting, Saints still winning, AND WE'LL ALWAYS SING YOUR NAME NA NA NA NA NAAAAAA etc
John Smith Posted 12 August, 2010 Posted 12 August, 2010 Personally, with our ability to sing OWTS, I think a slow rendition of Amazing grace would not only be fitting but fairly apt also. Amazing grace! (How sweet the sound) That saved a wretch like me! I once was lost, but now am found, Was blind, but now I see. Followed by some Liebherr chants.
Ashby Saint Posted 12 August, 2010 Posted 12 August, 2010 Glory Glory Markus Liebherr Definitely this. Easy to catch on and very fitting tribute.
supersonic Posted 12 August, 2010 Posted 12 August, 2010 Very apt. Excellent suggestion. The words say it all. Its down to him that Saints are still able to Go Marching On... Glory glory Markus Liebherr, Glory glory Markus Liebherr Glory glory Markus Liebherr ...and the Saints Go Marching On On On... hate to be pedantic, but surely it should be "and the saints go marching In In In"??
ART Posted 12 August, 2010 Posted 12 August, 2010 Marcus, you helped us but we never helped you, We needed you but you didn't need us So we want to tell you, Goodbye, goodbye. Marcus, you left us but we'll never leave you, We still need you but you no longer need us, So we want to tell you, Goodbye, goodbye.
Fowllyd Posted 12 August, 2010 Posted 12 August, 2010 Marcus, you helped us but we never helped you, We needed you but you didn't need us So we want to tell you, Goodbye, goodbye. Marcus, you left us but we'll never leave you, We still need you but you no longer need us, So we want to tell you, Goodbye, goodbye. I like that - taken from a great song, too. Not so sure that the St Mary's crowd would cope too well with the tune though...
The Hoff Posted 12 August, 2010 Posted 12 August, 2010 this! I had to get in the shower for some inspiration, the true home of all football songs!
up and away Posted 12 August, 2010 Posted 12 August, 2010 The song To Marian Pahars when he did his final lap of honour before leaving was extremely moving! What ever, I just cannot thank the guy enough.
Webby Posted 12 August, 2010 Posted 12 August, 2010 I just thought of a swiss connection... So, to the tune of The Sound Of Music: The Saints are alive cos of Marcus Liebherr, and we'll go marching on for a thousand years, The Saints are alive thanks to Marcus Liebherr, and we'll go marching on for a thousand years. Admit it, it works!
SaintDonkey Posted 12 August, 2010 Posted 12 August, 2010 (edited) To nick Alpine's excellent idea from another thread I reckon "Win it for Markus" [clap clap clapclap clap] works pretty well WIFM (as Barry Badger said just before I posted this) Edited 12 August, 2010 by SaintDonkey
Matthew Le God Posted 12 August, 2010 Posted 12 August, 2010 Be nice if the club got a band in for the Leyton Orient game to play this live.
derry Posted 12 August, 2010 Posted 12 August, 2010 The whole ground singing "The 'Saint' goes marching in". followed by his name.
niceandfriendly Posted 12 August, 2010 Posted 12 August, 2010 Like all these suggestions. Let's just sing them all - oh, and bring your mates.
Ed Rooney Posted 12 August, 2010 Posted 12 August, 2010 Ricky Lambert tune He was born in Germany Markus Markus He was one of the family Markus Markus He rescued us and saved our club and saw us at wembley lift the Cup Markus Leibherr Southampton's true legend Na Na Na Na
derry Posted 12 August, 2010 Posted 12 August, 2010 If you want everybody in the stadium to sing it has to be one that everybody knows and feels comfortable with. Once the noisy side starts it off unless the rest know the words they won't/can't join in so it will just be the usual Northam/back of the Itchen north. There really is only one tune WTSGMI that everybody would sing.

saint lard Posted 12 August, 2010 Posted 12 August, 2010 "que sera sera, he took us to Wembley he will live long in the memory, and he saved the saints..... We love Liebherr,we love Liebherr......" Or just finish with "Markus Liebherr,Markus Liebherr...."
whiteleySaint30 Posted 12 August, 2010 Posted 12 August, 2010 "que sera sera, he took us to Wembley he will live long in the memory, and he saved the saints..... We love Liebherr,we love Liebherr......" Or just finish with "Markus Liebherr,Markus Liebherr...." This looks good to me
ericofarabia Posted 12 August, 2010 Posted 12 August, 2010 Stand up if you love Liebherr. To make it less formal ... " Stand up if you love Markus " is a definite winner ..... simple ... you can join in at any stage, and , well, just about sums up how about every single one of us feels about the man. We loved him for saving us, we loved his unassuming nature and more than anything else we loved the fact that he loved our club and wanted to return it to its rightful place. And finally ... watching him take photos of the team collecting the cup at Wembley .... he was like a proud grandfather taking pictures of his grandchildren at a school sports day. That wasn't pounds shillings and pence registering in his head ... that was pride at something that was a part of his legacy. For that I will gladly stand up and sing till I have no voice left!! Orient at home is going to be a very emotional return for me indeed.
