Barry the Badger Posted 11 August, 2010 Posted 11 August, 2010 I wonder if the resident ITKers like stu etc knew about this. Point scoring? Really?
1976_Child Posted 11 August, 2010 Posted 11 August, 2010 What happens now? 1. We get every soul who professes allegiance to our club to come to the Orient game. A full house. 2. We sing our hearts out for Marcus, with out whom we would never be in the strong position we are in. 3. The lads must go on and win the league. 4. The lads will need our whole support this season, and we have to be there even during the cold Tuesday evening winter games. Marcus put his trust in SFC and us; now we must show him and his family that this trust was not in vain.

I think they are mearly putting 2 and 2 together based on the Club's statement
Matthew Le God Posted 12 August, 2010 Posted 12 August, 2010 Jack Walker set up a trust fund for Blackburn when he learned he had cancer. It continued to invest in the club after his death in 2000 and did so for the next 8 years.
SaintBobby Posted 12 August, 2010 Posted 12 August, 2010 I hope I may be able to help a little. Obviously, all fans are shocked by the news. But it is only natural to also consider the implications for the club. As it happens - and I feel sick about this now - I met a senior official of the club earlier this month and asked the "what if?" question. I had assumed Markus was rather older than 62, but in any event, it seemed a fair question at the time. Provisions had been made for such an eventuality and thought through quite carefully. There is no reason to worry at all on this score. Billionaires do not die intestate and all of this would have been - and has been - properly worked out. I'm not sure that minimises the shock in the short term, but it is understandable that fans will be thinking about the future of the club, and indeed the statement on the OS reflects this reality. RIP Markus. A true Saint.

westofshannonsaint Posted 12 August, 2010 Posted 12 August, 2010 I am devastated by this news, It feels like the loss of a close friend. But I can admit that one of my first questions was - what now? it's a natural reaction along with why did this happen? Marcus has my eternal thanks. He has left the club in a far better position than when he came and I am very happy to read... "The club is now financially stable. The directors are optimistic about the future prospects for the club both on and off the field." Liebherr's death has not altered that optimism. The executors of his estate were made aware of his emotional attachment to Southampton, which was only strengthened in the 13 months of his ownership. He would have wanted to be there when the Saints get promotion to the Premier League. The well laid plans for the club that he and the executive chairman had mapped out over a year ago will continue to be implemented uninterrupted and nothing will change in that regard. The Saints were Markus’ constant preoccupation.” What happens next.... I order the Away shirt with LIEBHERR on the back
Frank's cousin Posted 12 August, 2010 Posted 12 August, 2010 Whatever happens next... we must make sure his legacy lasts ... we owe him that. We need to ensure future enerations of fans know the major part he has played in our history, whatever happens in the future on or off the pitch.
DT Posted 12 August, 2010 Posted 12 August, 2010 I've been a saints fan for too long to not fear changes now. Never easy is it?
Amesbury Saint Posted 12 August, 2010 Posted 12 August, 2010 Leyton Orient now needs to be a sell out imo very much so.
Dave Benson Phillips Posted 12 August, 2010 Posted 12 August, 2010 What happens with transfers? The club are effectively in probate now? As a result assets frozen? Meaning there is no cash to buy?
thorpie the sinner Posted 12 August, 2010 Posted 12 August, 2010 What happens with transfers? The club are effectively in probate now? As a result assets frozen? Meaning there is no cash to buy? As Markus made provisions before hand, it is my understanding that it is business as usual!
SO16_Saint Posted 12 August, 2010 Posted 12 August, 2010 What happens with transfers? The club are effectively in probate now? As a result assets frozen? Meaning there is no cash to buy? i dont know, but i dont think cash is transferred on the day of the signing so shouldn't cause too much troubles?? - and as Thorpie said, he may have made provisions....
View From The Top Posted 12 August, 2010 Author Posted 12 August, 2010 oh wow.....what a complete ass Sorry, I'm not going all scouse about it but feel free to "mourn" as you see fit.

Whitey Grandad Posted 12 August, 2010 Posted 12 August, 2010 What happens with transfers? The club are effectively in probate now? As a result assets frozen? Meaning there is no cash to buy? The club would be a separate company, managed by Cortese. I am not privy to the details of ownership of that company but it will carry on operating with its own assets and funding whoever owns it, be it trust fund, holding company or individual person. Rest assured that someone of Markus's ability and experience will have set in place measures for just such a sad eventuality, as should we all.
Secret Site Agent Posted 12 August, 2010 Posted 12 August, 2010 (edited) I can tell you exactly what happens next. Marcus legacy will be passed to whom ever is in his will as the benificiary. They will look at us and ask if we are a decent going concern. They will see a decent club, with a solid 5 year plan, of whihc we are in year 2, with decent revenue streams and a good chance of giving back a decent revenue return in the future. They will speak to NC and see what his vision is and if he can prove what he says. They will then (ahem) decide NOT to sell us as we are worth more beign developed than sold of for our component parts. We will still have a club to support, with plenty cash to back us up AS LONG as we show we will give a good return. Just image this. NC will have to do a Dragons Den run with the board and hope none of them say ' I'm out'. Edited 12 August, 2010 by Dark Sotonic Mills user's request
Dave Benson Phillips Posted 12 August, 2010 Posted 12 August, 2010 Another cheap shot on the back of Liebherrs death. Let me go on record and say something, which says alot more about me than people like The Delldays and Secret Site Agent. Now is not the time for petty pro/anti Cortese squablling, and not childish subtle remarks such as those of Secret Site Agent. I have strong opinions on the subject still, probably even more so now after this tragedy, but I will keep them well away from the forums for the time being, whilst the club is in mourning of the death of the one and only man who rescued Southampton FC. Considering I am supposed to be one of the most opinionated and 'controversial' posters on here, others would do well to follow my example and keep the petty and childish comments off the forum, if only for a few days? Edit: Fair play SSA, I see you have taken it back.

If they do, then we get sold to Pinnacle and all the others can then say how wonderful it is that the nasty NC is now gone and we have our club back, in the blue square south playing on the common. Appreciate this is intended to be a bit tongue in cheek, but it needn't pan out anythign at all like this at all. It may be that it's entierly at the discretion of the Liebherr family, but it's just as likely that there are specific provisions in Markus's will (a trust fund or some similar arrangement) that means that the family's discretion doesn't really come into it.
SB Posted 12 August, 2010 Posted 12 August, 2010 Need to find out who is now the owner of Southampton..
Crab Lungs Posted 12 August, 2010 Posted 12 August, 2010 This gives an indication of where the club is going: http://www.campdenfb.com/default.asp?title=Swiss-Germanindustrialistdies&page=article.display&article.id=22630

Essruu Posted 12 August, 2010 Posted 12 August, 2010 He's dead, I'm sad about that but my club is more important. Sorry if that doesn't sit well with some posters but that's the way it is. David Walker, you're a twaat. We possibly wouldn't have a club if it wasn't for him. You've done and said some stupid things in your time in your bedroom general capacity, but this is right up there. Kn0b.
Baird of the land Posted 12 August, 2010 Posted 12 August, 2010 Couldn't believe the news when i saw it on the OS site last night. Very sad news for everyone who knew him and potentially devastating for the club. Couple of questions spring to my mind. Has the club been holding back in transfer activity with a thought to the possibility of a heir looking over the accounts? Secondly if as suggested there's been provisions made for the immediate future of the club, How long?, How much? Will there be any money for anything other than loan signings in the immediate future? What's the liklihood any heir is going to feel disposed to pumping money into Markus' plaything? Football in the uk isn't a profitable business venture unless you are at the ultra top end. If they don't share his passion for the club the speedy return to the premiership may have died with Markus as any new owner is likely to be less finacially endowed. Obviously we're not going to get answers to these questions while everyone mourns but i think we need to get our heads round the notion that the clean path onwards and upwards that seemed so clear with a rich and committed owner might now much more uncertain.

Thedelldays Posted 12 August, 2010 Posted 12 August, 2010 Oh my! Not the cyber-teacher-warrior? do you ever give it a rest..? probably not now that you are (again) a full member.. for once..stop it..yeah..?

Thedelldays Posted 12 August, 2010 Posted 12 August, 2010 would this illness been many of the reasons why the club/cortese has not been so up front with communications..? and why the pre season tour of switzerland was announced quite late..? some have said markus was there for pre season...but does that mean he was just about well enough to go...?? hmmmm.....all sad

It mentions that the club may now be in the hands of his siblings, and that it is the Liebherr tradition to do so...
derry Posted 12 August, 2010 Posted 12 August, 2010 I am very sad that Markus has died. Of course there are questions but as far as I am concerned these can wait until we have adequately mourned our loss and given due respect to his family. In due course and at an appropriate time the future will become clearer, until then I can wait. Rest in peace and Thankyou.
Channon's Sideburns Posted 12 August, 2010 Posted 12 August, 2010 We have the club we have always dreamed of. And it is debt free. We are also free of the individuals from previous regimes who collectively did so much damage, on and off the field. One person's money made that happen - thank you Markus. I hope the Liebherr family continue with Markus' vision, and with Nicola Cortese at the helm. The plan is still in the early stages - but to Pards and the players I say this - WIN IT FOR MARKUS
Dave Benson Phillips Posted 12 August, 2010 Posted 12 August, 2010 do you ever give it a rest..? probably not now that you are (again) a full member.. for once..stop it..yeah..? Can you just seriously grow up and give it a rest. You are obsessed with me... it's disturbing. You have my contact details ( or can get them ) if you are that desperate. How about you keep your points scoring and petty little comments to yourself, especially on a day such as today. Luckily you can't respond to this or inflict anyone with your weird posts until tommorow lunchtime.
Crab Lungs Posted 12 August, 2010 Posted 12 August, 2010 http://www.live-event-branding.co.uk/index.html Hmmm.... I wonder, when the time is right, if we can do choreograph something inside the stadium...

Kn0b. i agree with mr ruu. now thats a first. its amazing how a death in the family brings people closer together as i see it, whatever may happen with the club is for another day, a day thats along time away. ffs you heartless ****, (VFTT) have a bit of respect for his family. this is someones father, husband who has just died. it will all get sorted out in good time, billionaires do not die without having all their affairs in order, and there would aready have existed a clear plan in the event of such an awful tragedy. and to be honest, its none of our ****ing business, and certianly isnt right now
grammy Posted 12 August, 2010 Posted 12 August, 2010 Markus's dream/vision was to see Saints get to the premier league. I feel sure that his family will be even more determined now to see that through. What better tribute could there be for such a great and highly successful man. Whatever happens he has left the club with many of the foundations for success already in place and I for one will be eternaly grateful. R.I.P Markus
Ed Rooney Posted 12 August, 2010 Posted 12 August, 2010 We pack the Ground for the next Home Game and sing about him for 90 mins
Saint George Posted 12 August, 2010 Posted 12 August, 2010 Y'all know the song 'Oh when the Saints go marching in' originated as a 'Jazz funeral' song in New Orleans right? You know what to do!
Matthew Le God Posted 12 August, 2010 Posted 12 August, 2010 Y'all know the song 'Oh when the Saints go marching in' originated as a 'Jazz funeral' song in New Orleans right? You know what to do! Be nice if the club got a band in for the Leyton Orient game to play this live.
Chez Posted 12 August, 2010 Posted 12 August, 2010 some have said markus was there for pre season...but does that mean he was just about well enough to go...?? check out other threads and you will see a photo of him with Saints fans at the pre season game in Switzerland. He looked fit as a fiddle in this photo and there is mention of him having a beer with fans.

Don't see how its so much different here (yes a bit more personal, but the same principle). There is a fair bit of hypocrisy on here, the only reason the majority care is that ML put in a load of money to your football club (yes he seemed like a sound chap with it), but you wouldn't give a t**s otherwise. Stop having a pop at other posters, its not like they're calling up ML's nearest and dearest shouting down the phone "what the f**ks going to happen?" is it?

Thedelldays Posted 12 August, 2010 Posted 12 August, 2010 (edited) as for what happens now....or in the future.. the summer (next) will be very interesting...we shall see if the family or whoever connected to the great man wants to carry on his wish the way he would have..... if NOT..then promotion is essential to even think about keeping the team together unless another rich man comes in... I wonder if Cortese will hang around after the summer either way..????? Edited 12 August, 2010 by Thedelldays
hypochondriac Posted 12 August, 2010 Posted 12 August, 2010 im not devastated, i never knew him. but it is devastating for his family, which should be the first concern, not the me me me cry babys wondering who is going to prop up their precious little club now their sugar daddy has departed I'm sad for his family. I wish them well even though I can't tell them that personally because I don't know them. At the same time, I'm also wondering what is going to happen with the club. The two are not mutually exclusive.
farawaysaint Posted 12 August, 2010 Posted 12 August, 2010 I'm not challenging the right of anyone to hold a different view. I'm not calling you a retard for being devestated about the death of Markus even though I don't feel the same way. It's not like you to be this confrontational hypo, we all know you're view by now ignore the idiots and move on. Marcus's death is a tragedy at only 62 I think we can all agree. Let's unite over this and show his family the same support we would to anyone Saints fan who'd lost a loved one.
