hypochondriac Posted 11 August, 2010 Posted 11 August, 2010 Now is not the time mate, thanks I'm not discussing cheap point scoring about the merits or otherwise of Cortese. I'm discussing the future of SFC.
dune Posted 11 August, 2010 Posted 11 August, 2010 I'm not discussing cheap point scoring about the merits or otherwise of Cortese. I'm discussing the future of SFC. There's nothing to discuss until we are told what is happening in more detail, and we will be told in more detail, but not today.
angelman Posted 11 August, 2010 Posted 11 August, 2010 It is quite a shock all this, and my condolences to family and friends. I would say don't worry, as I am confident things have been sorted out in the eventuality of an untimely passing away. The Liebherr's are no fools, and would have taken prudent measures to deal with this situation. His Will will pass the club on to whoever he has decided and they will be the new owner to do with how they please. I presume that it will be a family member (but you never know), and I hope that they have an equally fond view of Southampton Football Club. If they don't, I do hope that we as supporters will accept that. From a business angle the club is quite attractive so again I have no worries about the future.
Deppo Posted 11 August, 2010 Posted 11 August, 2010 I'm not discussing cheap point scoring about the merits or otherwise of Cortese. I'm discussing the future of SFC. No, but you have in the past though, haven't you. This is exactly what my original post was about, when you said 'now is not the time'. It is only because you pushed it that I looked into it. Like when you spit your dummy out about that stupid 'stadium announcer' post. Hope you think about the stupidity of that a bit more now Leibherr is gone and Cortese is still here.
docker-p Posted 11 August, 2010 Posted 11 August, 2010 He's not even cold yet ffs. Sorry, i promise i won't listen to anything other than Chopin for a week. Meanwhile is it possible he could have set up a trust fund for Saints? I guess it depends whether it was sudden or expected.
sadoldgit Posted 11 August, 2010 Posted 11 August, 2010 Is it me but I dont think this is the time to discuss this Agreed.
bristolsaint29 Posted 11 August, 2010 Posted 11 August, 2010 No one here will have any say or input into the future of saints so why discuss it you'll all just end up fighting as usual
Toomer Posted 11 August, 2010 Posted 11 August, 2010 Why can't some of you just give it a rest on what is one of the sadest days in our clubs history.
Chez Posted 11 August, 2010 Posted 11 August, 2010 Perhaps this is why we have been encouraged to become season ticket holders - Marcus is going to give the club to the fans, an equal share to every season ticket holder. I'm dreaming, but Marcus was Southampton's Saint and I'm sure he will leave us in safe hands. No matter what happens we're in a damn sight better position than the day before he bought us.
docker-p Posted 11 August, 2010 Posted 11 August, 2010 No one here will have any say or input into the future of saints so why discuss it you'll all just end up fighting as usual Err it's a forum, thats what we do. Nobody has got any input into the team selection for Saturday but we still discuss it.
lee_saint Posted 11 August, 2010 Posted 11 August, 2010 Family will continue to fund the club, see Telegragh link. http://www.telegraph.co.uk/sport/football/teams/southampton/7939635/Southampton-owner-Markus-Liebherr-dies.html
S-Clarke Posted 11 August, 2010 Posted 11 August, 2010 Family will continue to fund the club, see Telegragh link. http://www.telegraph.co.uk/sport/football/teams/southampton/7939635/Southampton-owner-Markus-Liebherr-dies.html His stated ambition was Premier League football and, although ownership of the club’s holding company is now expected to move to the family, they have already reassured staff that they do not intend to make any changes.
Glasgow_Saint Posted 11 August, 2010 Posted 11 August, 2010 what a guy....what a sad day....not much more to say really
Smirking_Saint Posted 11 August, 2010 Posted 11 August, 2010 I would imagine it may spur the family to push harder ? As a mark of respect ? Everyone needs to get a grip, from those that claim they are not bothered about the death of who seemed a very friendly, morally successful and nobel man, to those shooting down the fans of SFC who are genuinely worried about the future of the club. Truth is we do not know what is going to happen, we can only hope for the moment that SFC will survive as the successful club that ML wanted it to be. Rest in peace Saint Markus, you made a lot of people far happier than you will ever have known.
bender Posted 11 August, 2010 Posted 11 August, 2010 What happens now, is EVERYONE on the forum should be issued with a Markus avatar for one week, which cannot be changed, as a mark of respect. or we all do it voluntarily using different pics of the legend
Saint_Jimbo83 Posted 11 August, 2010 Posted 11 August, 2010 RIP Markus. To all of you saying the club is more important, if it wasn't for Markus we wouldn't have a club!!!
Colinjb Posted 11 August, 2010 Posted 11 August, 2010 or we all do it voluntarily using different pics of the legend Way ahead of you.
Andy Durman Posted 11 August, 2010 Posted 11 August, 2010 Sorry, but this thread should be closed in respect to our saviour. God bless you Markus and your family. I cannot thank you enough. May you look down with pride at your clubs future march to the premiership. We owe you so much. Thankyou.
bridge too far Posted 11 August, 2010 Posted 11 August, 2010 Family will continue to fund the club, see Telegragh link. http://www.telegraph.co.uk/sport/football/teams/southampton/7939635/Southampton-owner-Markus-Liebherr-dies.html Also in the Guardian: http://www.guardian.co.uk/football/2010/aug/11/southampton
docker-p Posted 11 August, 2010 Posted 11 August, 2010 Family will continue to fund the club, see Telegragh link. http://www.telegraph.co.uk/sport/football/teams/southampton/7939635/Southampton-owner-Markus-Liebherr-dies.html If this is true, it's good news particularly if they're in it for the long term
Crab Lungs Posted 11 August, 2010 Posted 11 August, 2010 Family will continue to fund the club, see Telegragh link. http://www.telegraph.co.uk/sport/football/teams/southampton/7939635/Southampton-owner-Markus-Liebherr-dies.html Incredible that he will continue to fund the club after his death. My word, thank you Markus, I can only hope we do you proud.
RobM Posted 11 August, 2010 Posted 11 August, 2010 Everything I've read about the Leibherr family suggests they are very family orientated, very focused and very down to earth. I hope somebody from the family take the club over in the same vein Marcus did and continue to support us. Let's give them time to get over this loss before we start making demands and asking questions. Most importantly though, whatever they decide, let's respect their decision and support them as best we can.
Glasgow_Saint Posted 11 August, 2010 Posted 11 August, 2010 Leyton Orient now needs to be a sell out imo
Right sider Posted 11 August, 2010 Posted 11 August, 2010 Felt I should change my avatar as a mark of respect as Dungeon Master from Dungeons and Dragons was not quite befitting as a tribute for our Saviour.
Weston Super Saint Posted 11 August, 2010 Posted 11 August, 2010 That would exclude more than half the forum though
martel Posted 11 August, 2010 Posted 11 August, 2010 Sorry, but this thread should be closed in respect to our saviour. God bless you Markus and your family. I cannot thank you enough. May you look down with pride at your clubs future march to the premiership. We owe you so much. Thankyou. I have to agree with your statement, simply because all this will do is simply go around in circles as the only people that know will be family and lawyers of course, all I would add is that Marcus had fantastic business acumen and could not imagine for one second that he did not think of this before anyone else. Admin, shut this thread down please out of respect.
doggface Posted 11 August, 2010 Posted 11 August, 2010 I think there is nothing wrong with this thread as the clubs future is obviously a matter of concern to all. I do however feel it is a real shame that 1 or 2 are tarnishing this thread with inappropriate comments at a time like this.
Golac's Cunning Stunts Posted 11 August, 2010 Posted 11 August, 2010 He's dead, I'm sad about that but my club is more important. Sorry if that doesn't sit well with some posters but that's the way it is. You completely stupid and selfish little ****.
oxfordshire_saint Posted 11 August, 2010 Posted 11 August, 2010 Shocked and saddened, the club is debt-free but we're forever in his debt. Thoughts go out to Cortese too, love him or loathe him, he and Markus were obviously close, so hopefully people will give him some space to grieve too.
Glasgow_Saint Posted 11 August, 2010 Posted 11 August, 2010 Get over yourself mush, I don't adopt the "Princess Di" approach, I'm more pragmatic. He's dead, it's sad but my immediate and only concern is SFC. Of course it's easy for folk like yourself to pretend you haven't thought about the implications for our club, but you go and light a candle and pretend you haven't. oh wow.....what a complete ass
dan17 Posted 11 August, 2010 Posted 11 August, 2010 Leyton Orient now needs to be a sell out imo That would be awesome IMO, a full SMS to pay their respects.
explorer saint Posted 11 August, 2010 Posted 11 August, 2010 I'm pleased with the family statement over this very sad news, but I am wondering where this leaves Nicola and how this will affect him on a personal as well as professional basis.
Saintandy666 Posted 11 August, 2010 Posted 11 August, 2010 http://www.guardian.co.uk/football/2010/aug/11/markus-liebherr-southampton-future There we go.
alpine_saint Posted 11 August, 2010 Posted 11 August, 2010 I'm pleased with the family statement over this very sad news, but I am wondering where this leaves Nicola and how this will affect him on a personal as well as professional basis. No change in the short-to-mid term, I would say. Presumably he doesnt have the close relationship with the rest of the family, but they will probably trust him if Markus did.
Smirking_Saint Posted 11 August, 2010 Posted 11 August, 2010 I'm pleased with the family statement over this very sad news, but I am wondering where this leaves Nicola and how this will affect him on a personal as well as professional basis. Family statement ?
S-Clarke Posted 11 August, 2010 Posted 11 August, 2010 http://www.guardian.co.uk/football/2010/aug/11/markus-liebherr-southampton-future There we go. What a truly great man he was.
Saint_clark Posted 11 August, 2010 Posted 11 August, 2010 What a truly great man he was. Indeed...I was emotional when I heard the news but now i'm fighting back the tears, as any of us in his situation would have done exactly the same i'm sure. Anybody, absolutely anybody, who doubted his motives has their answer now - he loved Southampton Football Club.
explorer saint Posted 11 August, 2010 Posted 11 August, 2010 Family statement ? OK the quote as in the guardian, sorry can't do the link but its on this forum
Smirking_Saint Posted 11 August, 2010 Posted 11 August, 2010 OK the quote as in the guardian, sorry can't do the link but its on this forum cheers bud Top man, top saint

Anybody, absolutely anybody, who doubted his motives has their answer now - he loved Southampton Football Club. I never believed the "return of investment" or "profit" b*ll*cks spouted on here anyway. He loved football, and for some reason fell in love with our poky little club. Bless the man. I hope Him Upstairs is giving Markus the guided tour and making him feel right at home.
S-Clarke Posted 11 August, 2010 Posted 11 August, 2010 Indeed...I was emotional when I heard the news but now i'm fighting back the tears, as any of us in his situation would have done exactly the same i'm sure. Anybody, absolutely anybody, who doubted his motives has their answer now - he loved Southampton Football Club. Every picture i see of him is bringing a tear to my eye too, as he's smiling in every single one of them. He loved it, and i'm so happy he got to see us win at Wembley. Just a shame we couldn't get prompted for him, but we'll do that this season in his memory. ''win it for markus'' The world has lost a great man today, it's not just about the club.
sainta claus Posted 11 August, 2010 Posted 11 August, 2010 This tragedy will not affect us in the short term. Markus saved us, gave us money to spend on players, and made sure that the club is up to standards in every way possible. No matter the outcome, Markus made us THE club of the south and our only concern now is that a new (?) owner is as dedicated as Markus!!! A club debt free, outstanding squad, new stadium, new facilities, and massive support. No worries!
JustMike Posted 11 August, 2010 Posted 11 August, 2010 I never believed the "return of investment" or "profit" b*ll*cks spouted on here anyway. Barry the Badger Posted 11 August, 2010 Posted 11 August, 2010 Bless the man. I hope Him Upstairs is giving Markus the guided tour and making him feel right at home. I hope there's a room up there with a f*ck off big TV that he can watch our games on.
alpine_saint Posted 11 August, 2010 Posted 11 August, 2010 I hope there's a room up there with a f*ck off big TV that he can watch our games on. He's in heaven, he doesnt need Sky anymore. (sorry...)
St Chalet Posted 11 August, 2010 Posted 11 August, 2010 So the OP question: What happens now? Well for me it is simple, we unite behind the manager, team and club management and walk this league.
The Fat Controller Posted 11 August, 2010 Posted 11 August, 2010 Respect guys ..... we are talking about the man who saved our club, and in turn became one of us!! Now is time to let everyone who knew him closely to grieve with the respect they deserve from us supporters. The club will continue with his memory in our minds for many years to come. Just give things time and stop making rash comments and let's all show the man the respect he earned from us by saving our club and giving it chance to succeed again.
Thedelldays Posted 11 August, 2010 Posted 11 August, 2010 I never believed the "return of investment" or "profit" b*ll*cks spouted on here anyway. I wonder if the resident ITKers like stu etc knew about this. And how they claimed with their fag packet maths what was what? I would wait till the dust settles before being confident his family will run us as the same
