Sour Mash Posted 11 August, 2010 Posted 11 August, 2010 I hope in many ways this is a spur to unite the club again, and inspire the team and supporters. In many ways it will be the same as all his other businesses, they will continue to run the same way as they had before. The only issue with us, is how much of it was an "investment" and how much of it was a personal "hobby of ML's? We'll never know exactly. But if there is a 5 year business plan, then I don't see any reason why that won't still be carried out. If we were to be sold, I think our current state would attract enough buyers for us to still be comfortable, ML has left us in a great position with a successful future ahead of us. I don't think there is to much speculating any further as its almost impossible for anyone to have much an idea what will happen. Definitely agree with a proper, fitting memorial (something like naming the ground) after him. RIP Markus Liebherr.
IOWSaintDaz Posted 11 August, 2010 Posted 11 August, 2010 Just hope that in light of this this shocking news we can all put our any differences about the team, chairman etc aside and unite behind a common cause and get this club up through the leagues and make Markus Liebherr proud after all he has done for us. RIP Markus you were a true gent and one of the good guys
View From The Top Posted 11 August, 2010 Author Posted 11 August, 2010 You are correct - it doesn't sit well. Your ignorance and lack of taste and decency is quite alarming. Get over yourself mush, I don't adopt the "Princess Di" approach, I'm more pragmatic. He's dead, it's sad but my immediate and only concern is SFC. Of course it's easy for folk like yourself to pretend you haven't thought about the implications for our club, but you go and light a candle and pretend you haven't.
dune Posted 11 August, 2010 Posted 11 August, 2010 He's dead, I'm sad about that but my club is more important. Sorry if that doesn't sit well with some posters but that's the way it is. Show some respect.
altoniansaints Posted 11 August, 2010 Posted 11 August, 2010 close this thread it`s not the right time, yes our club is important to us all as it was for Markus, but lets let his family and friends grieve the loss of a true Saint in thier own time. R.I.P. Saint Markus Liebherr of Southampton F.C. thankyou for all you`ve done for us in the last year!
OldNick Posted 11 August, 2010 Posted 11 August, 2010 I looked on the club site and was saddened that the item about Marcus' passing had adverts around it.Is there no respect left in the world?
View From The Top Posted 11 August, 2010 Author Posted 11 August, 2010 Had he not arrived here, your club would not exist............ And now he's gone but lets all pretend we haven't ask ourselves "what happens now?"
yamms_schmitz Posted 11 August, 2010 Posted 11 August, 2010 Re-name the Itchen stand. It was after all where he sat when he came to see his team play.
Deppo Posted 11 August, 2010 Posted 11 August, 2010 Not really the time to discuss that sort of stuff mate. Okay: 1. This is a 'what happens now' thread and not a 'condolences to Leibherr' thread. 2. I agree with you anyway. But I hope this occurance makes people think a little more about the consequences to their actions.
Colinjb Posted 11 August, 2010 Posted 11 August, 2010 What happen's now? We grieve, that's what happens now.
St Marco Posted 11 August, 2010 Posted 11 August, 2010 What happens now is everyone get's behind the club. No more petty squabbling over absolute nothingness. ML bought into the club because he believed it was a great club with great fans and great potential. He was 100% right. But of late fans have forgotten how to support. Forgotten where we were and how we got here. Without Markus there would be no Southampton FC. It is as simple as that. As much as i hate the scum down the road one thing i admire about them is that no matter what happens until the final whistle they support their team non stop, no negativity. Over the past few years we had nothing to sing about, nothing to be proud about. It had never been so bad. Markus came in and gave us hope. He helped turn the club around. We need to honor him by getting back to what we used to do and make the atmosphere at the games full of emotion and full of pride, raise the roof off and get behind the team from the 1st kick until the last kick, even if we lose. That is what we should do now in my opinion.

Page after page of mawkish RIPs is of little interest to anyone, least of all his immediate family who are the only ones who will be genuinly feeling this. Who will take over, what does this mean for NC, will we be on the market again??? Any ideas?

bristolsaint29 Posted 11 August, 2010 Posted 11 August, 2010 What should happen now is people stop arguing and unite in a time of grief and uncertainty but hey that's never going to happen on here is it!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

alpine_saint Posted 11 August, 2010 Posted 11 August, 2010 We'll be owned by whoever he leaves us to in his will. Does anyone know if he was ever accompanied by someone from the family to games ? Here's a thought - he's left it to NC....
Deppo Posted 11 August, 2010 Posted 11 August, 2010 I disagree with you but I'm not going to go into it on this thread. Lets leave it. Okay, but you misunderstand me I think.
Toomer Posted 11 August, 2010 Posted 11 August, 2010 As I have said on the RIP thread lets fill the stadium a week Saturday as a mark of respect.
docker-p Posted 11 August, 2010 Posted 11 August, 2010 Read the club statement. I have. Nothing about who will inherit the club, or what they will do with it. Or if it has been set up as a trust etc etc etc
NickG Posted 11 August, 2010 Posted 11 August, 2010 Does anyone know if he was ever accompanied by someone from the family to games ? Here's a thought - he's left it to NC.... he has had family at the games.
shurlock Posted 11 August, 2010 Posted 11 August, 2010 And now he's gone but lets all pretend we haven't ask ourselves "what happens now?" and? nobody's being mawkish; nobody's pretending they knew the guy; but they are exhibiting some gratitude for what he did for the club. It is about the football but done with a bit of generosity and humility.
VectisSaint Posted 11 August, 2010 Posted 11 August, 2010 I really don't think Markus would be offended by such a thread, he was above all a successful business man, and would have been thinking the same if it had been someone else. The fact of the matter is that Swiss Inheritance Law is very different to what we understand in this country. As of right now the entire Estate is owned fully by his family, in a very tightly defined manner (as I am not sure of his precise family situation I won't add more). Hopefully he will have made provision for what happens next, but it is a matter of fact that it is the family that moves matters forward (it is referred to I believe as "forced heirship"). More information available at http://geneva.angloinfo.com/countries/switzerland/wills.asp RIP Markus.
Saintandy666 Posted 11 August, 2010 Posted 11 August, 2010 Does anyone know if he was ever accompanied by someone from the family to games ? Here's a thought - he's left it to NC.... Highly unlikely, as NC doesn't have the cash to carry through his investment. Much more likely it'll just be someone in his family, I don't know whether they have been to games but I imagine if they actually own us they would take a bigger interest. Also, if it is someone in his family, they are much more likely to feel a moral obligation to the club.
bristolsaint29 Posted 11 August, 2010 Posted 11 August, 2010 We give a little bit of respect to the family of the man who saved the football club that is so dear to all of us!
gaz Posted 11 August, 2010 Posted 11 August, 2010 Wow, unwexpected. I'm stunned. I knew we were being setup to be self-sufficient should Markus decide to walk away, but never thought we'd have to go to that plan so quickly. RIP Markus, and thankyou.
Thedelldays Posted 11 August, 2010 Posted 11 August, 2010 I still reckon he knew he was dying. probably...Just wonder if he made any special provision for saints..? if he knew he was dying..bet he enjoyed dunes complaining emails..
saint_stevo Posted 11 August, 2010 Posted 11 August, 2010 What was the last game he attended? Any ideas?
S-Clarke Posted 11 August, 2010 Posted 11 August, 2010 What was the last game he attended? Any ideas? Our pre-season friendly's in Switzerland, i noticed he wasn't at Plymouth and did wonder why.
paulwantsapint Posted 11 August, 2010 Posted 11 August, 2010 Now lets go out and win as many games as possible & dedicate the silverwear to Markus
hypochondriac Posted 11 August, 2010 Posted 11 August, 2010 probably...Just wonder if he made any special provision for saints..? if he knew he was dying..bet he enjoyed dunes complaining emails.. Shutup mate nobody was to know this was going to happen. No time for point scoring.
aintforever Posted 11 August, 2010 Posted 11 August, 2010 Obviously the important thing is to pay your respects and my thoughts go out to Marcus' family and friends. But this could have very serious consequences on SFC, there's nothing wrong with discussing it.
CB Saint Posted 11 August, 2010 Posted 11 August, 2010 Does anyone know if he was ever accompanied by someone from the family to games ? Here's a thought - he's left it to NC.... This - if only to p*ss off Dune
View From The Top Posted 11 August, 2010 Author Posted 11 August, 2010 Our pre-season friendly's in Switzerland, i noticed he wasn't at Plymouth and did wonder why. My nipper asked me on saturday if Marcus was there and when I couldn't see him I put it down to him being on his jollies.
CHAPEL END CHARLIE Posted 11 August, 2010 Posted 11 August, 2010 We'll be owned by whoever he leaves us to in his will. This is obviously true , and unless that person(s) desperately want to own a football club we'll probably be for sale again before very long I suppose . Just when you think that the club you love so much is stable with its future looking bright for once an awful human tragedy throws everything right up into the air again . I'm reminded of the old Yiddish proverb that says : "Men make plans - the Gods laugh" I can think of not deeper truth than that tonight .
saint_stevo Posted 11 August, 2010 Posted 11 August, 2010 Last game he came to sms to see? Didn't he miss some last year blaming the ash clouds?
dune Posted 11 August, 2010 Posted 11 August, 2010 I have. Nothing about who will inherit the club, or what they will do with it. Or if it has been set up as a trust etc etc etc He's not even cold yet ffs.
NickG Posted 11 August, 2010 Posted 11 August, 2010 even more reason to enjoy the positives not fear for where we are headed
hypochondriac Posted 11 August, 2010 Posted 11 August, 2010 If we are up for sale I think we will be OK. Decent club with no debts and bags of potential. We shall see.

S-Clarke Posted 11 August, 2010 Posted 11 August, 2010 If we are up for sale I think we will be OK. Decent club with no debts and bags of potential. We shall see. I don't think we will be tbh. Markus would want his interest to be continued by someone he trusts, he wouldn't want to see it sold off to the highest bidder, i'm sure of that.

Well "mush" I would rather have some humanity than be like you, pragmatic you call it i see, umm. Of course I, as everybody on here has, thought about what this means to the club but there is a time and a place for that. Not sure that a couple of hours after the announcement of his death is the time to do it. And what happens to the club is in the statement on the OS, so go and read it so you might be more aware of the implications to the club.
alpine_saint Posted 11 August, 2010 Posted 11 August, 2010 I have. Nothing about who will inherit the club, or what they will do with it. Or if it has been set up as a trust etc etc etc You are so shallow and self-centred, it defies belief.
.comsaint Posted 11 August, 2010 Posted 11 August, 2010 I would assume we will be up for sale again sometime in the near future??? I haven't got a clue tbh. Time will tell I guess.
JackFrost Posted 11 August, 2010 Posted 11 August, 2010 I know everyone is going to be emotional but right now this thread isn't doing anyone any favours at this time

Markus would want his interest to be continued by someone he trusts, he wouldn't want to see it sold off to the highest bidder, i'm sure of that. Nah I imagine if we are up for sale then there will be some very specific selling instructions. Perhaps a discounted price if financial assurances are made? Any case, I can't see Cortese being the owner. He has to have someone to answer to IMO. Probably a family member.
hypochondriac Posted 11 August, 2010 Posted 11 August, 2010 I know everyone is going to be emotional but right now this thread isn't doing anyone any favours at this time Please lets just debate this sensibly on this thread and write condolences on the other threads set up for it.
itchen_dan Posted 11 August, 2010 Posted 11 August, 2010 As people have said, I really can't see NC running it on his own. Who will now have control of funds? Who is going to make any big decisions? I still think that it will continue under NC's guidance but he will have someone else alongside him to help him out. He really is now on his own. Someone like Leon Crouch should be offered the chance to return to the club.
Deppo Posted 11 August, 2010 Posted 11 August, 2010 If we are up for sale I think we will be OK. Decent club with no debts and bags of potential. We shall see. Now is not the time mate, thanks
