beatlesaint Posted 11 August, 2010 Posted 11 August, 2010 Who owns us for a start? If you read the statement on the OS nothing happens now except we carry on as the plans that have been put in place. I would assume we are owned by Markus's family and they will continue to see out his vision for Southampton FC.
maxi_sopez Posted 11 August, 2010 Posted 11 August, 2010 Official site article looks like it will be okay, clearly death expected as they wouldnt have been so confident in article. Still shocking RIP and thanks for saving us Markus
Seaford Saint Posted 11 August, 2010 Posted 11 August, 2010 Is it me but I dont think this is the time to discuss this
exit2 Posted 11 August, 2010 Posted 11 August, 2010 The club will continue as per his wish I presume. There will be some sort of trust fund set up? Will be interesting to see if Cortese stays on?
Smirking_Saint Posted 11 August, 2010 Posted 11 August, 2010 Forum is a bit shaky, probably 300 million people online. Wow that is shocking, i am hopeful the club will be ok from the article but obviously worried for the club. Absolutely devastated though, he was always smiling. RIP Markus
Stepgar Posted 11 August, 2010 Posted 11 August, 2010 We owe him so much. I would like to see a permanent memorial dedicate to him as without him who knows where we could have ended up. A stand?? Or maybe even the stadium ?? RIP big man.
Saintandy666 Posted 11 August, 2010 Posted 11 August, 2010 I expect in his will, he will have left the stuff he owns to various different people, probably people in his family. Either way, to shocked to think too much about this just now
chocco boxo Posted 11 August, 2010 Posted 11 August, 2010 Very shocked to hear this sad news, best thing for all now is to pull and stay together and get into the Premiership. RIP ML.
hypochondriac Posted 11 August, 2010 Posted 11 August, 2010 Hopefully one of his children perhaps? Or a relative?
krissyboy31 Posted 11 August, 2010 Posted 11 August, 2010 Don't really know what to say, really. I'm devastated, the guy had become like one of the Saints family and although there were rumours about health problems, I don't think anyone expected he wouldn't be here to see his plans come to fruition. I would presume the ownership of Saints and Mali would revert to the Liebherr family but what plans (if any) they have for us, is anybody's guess.
Jones91 Posted 11 August, 2010 Posted 11 August, 2010 Well if his death wasn't sudden, then he would of told his family what he wants them to do with the club. RIP
Jones91 Posted 11 August, 2010 Posted 11 August, 2010 Well if his death wasn't sudden, then he would of told his family what he wants them to do with the club. RIP
Matthew Le God Posted 11 August, 2010 Posted 11 August, 2010 .He would have wanted to be there when the Saints get promotion to the Premier League. The well laid plans for the Club that he and the Executive Chairman had mapped out over a year ago will continue to be implemented uninterrupted and nothing will change in that regard....
St Chalet Posted 11 August, 2010 Posted 11 August, 2010 FFS - The moral compass of some posters here is unbelievable. My thoughts are with his family, the club can wait.
mattyd Posted 11 August, 2010 Posted 11 August, 2010 All companys have contingency plans in place. Was he ill by the last game of last season? He missed it. A terrible day
Puddings and Monkeys Posted 11 August, 2010 Posted 11 August, 2010 Is it me but I dont think this is the time to discuss this Totally agree 2020. Not the right time - the bloke has just died FFS!
moon monkey Posted 11 August, 2010 Posted 11 August, 2010 He never looked the healthiest of people, I'm sure all case scenarios were considered when he took ownership. I quite expect his son or daughter to take his fortune. I guess a certain amount has been put aside for investment in southampton over a long period. That will only last so long, the next task for Cortese will be sadly to search for a new owner.
hypochondriac Posted 11 August, 2010 Posted 11 August, 2010 FFS - The moral compass of some posters here is unbelievable. My thoughts are with his family, the club can wait. Or we can discuss both seeing as we didn't actually know the man personally. Very sad for his family and friends but equally it has implications for SFC. No problem with them being discussed.
Weston Super Saint Posted 11 August, 2010 Posted 11 August, 2010 What happens now, is EVERYONE on the forum should be issued with a Markus avatar for one week, which cannot be changed, as a mark of respect.
View From The Top Posted 11 August, 2010 Author Posted 11 August, 2010 He's dead, I'm sad about that but my club is more important. Sorry if that doesn't sit well with some posters but that's the way it is.
Arizona Posted 11 August, 2010 Posted 11 August, 2010 Please people. Everyone is gutted about today's news, but can we at least show each other some respect by not attacking each other posters in threads like this. In the oppinion of many people, including myself, now isn't the time to discuss club matters. However it is a legitimate question which will no doubt be playing very strongly on peoples minds once they have gotten over the shock. If you disagree with this thread, do not post on it. On the other hand; please do not attack those who do. Thanks
dubai_phil Posted 11 August, 2010 Posted 11 August, 2010 What happens now, is EVERYONE on the forum should be issued with a Markus avatar for one week, which cannot be changed, as a mark of respect. this Followed after the memorial service by renaming a stand at the stadium

hypochondriac Posted 11 August, 2010 Posted 11 August, 2010 And also I am sure when people found out, one of their first thoughts was "oh sh*t what happens to us now?"
View From The Top Posted 11 August, 2010 Author Posted 11 August, 2010 this Followed after the memorial service by renaming a stand at the stadium I'd actually like to see the stadium renasmed in his honour. It would be fitting.
Saint Fan CaM Posted 11 August, 2010 Posted 11 August, 2010 RIP Markus. May I be the first to ask - no demand - that the club immortalises the great man with a statue next to Ted's. OK, he was only with us for one year, but what a year and he has been every bit the influence in keeping the club alive. Beyond that, I think any further speculation is disrespectful right now, but I do feel we'll be OK.
Guan 2.0 Posted 11 August, 2010 Posted 11 August, 2010 Obviously, Information is limited, and emotions are high. Perhaps just lock this topic for a week? After all, It's doubtful that any on here will have anymore information than Cortese et al. So instead of idle speculation, we can instead show a mark of Respect. IMO, of course.

docker-p Posted 11 August, 2010 Posted 11 August, 2010 He always did look a little yellow to me. Liver problem?
beatlesaint Posted 11 August, 2010 Posted 11 August, 2010 He's dead, I'm sad about that but my club is more important. Sorry if that doesn't sit well with some posters but that's the way it is. You are correct - it doesn't sit well. Your ignorance and lack of taste and decency is quite alarming.
alpine_saint Posted 11 August, 2010 Posted 11 August, 2010 The team carry out his wish and win promotion........
once_bitterne Posted 11 August, 2010 Posted 11 August, 2010 Hopefully one of his children perhaps? Or a relative? He had no children. Can anyone confirm if he was married? It's not out of the realms of possibilities that we could soon be up for sale again.
Cabrone Posted 11 August, 2010 Posted 11 August, 2010 Wow what a shock. I'd just like to say thanks, you saved our club. I just hope that someone in the family will keep on going with the club as it was doing so well under his ownership.
saint_stevo Posted 11 August, 2010 Posted 11 August, 2010 It has implications on the club, and this is a saints forum. Everyone loved the bloke and everyone on ere loves Saints. Some of us are worried that, having lost one of these things we love today, that the other is not now in danger. No signs of disrespect
goodymatt Posted 11 August, 2010 Posted 11 August, 2010 Either way we have a club to support that is debt free and set up to progress up the leagues. Absolute legend, 62 is too young R.I.P Markus
K,Billy's supersound Posted 11 August, 2010 Posted 11 August, 2010 i personally will be attaching a black armband to my shirt to show my respect. i just hope we can all join together and show the great 'spirit of southampton' that Markus saw and made him want to save our club. please players, staff and fans now we will give 100% to make his dreams and wishes come true and for his memory.

scott_saints Posted 11 August, 2010 Posted 11 August, 2010 If the worst case scenario happened and we went up for sale, atleast we're attractive now, not like last time......as we have no debts. Thankyou Markus.
Thedelldays Posted 11 August, 2010 Posted 11 August, 2010 He's dead, I'm sad about that but my club is more important. Sorry if that doesn't sit well with some posters but that's the way it is. tend to agree...the news is unreal...hard to believe well I guess we NOW KNOW why we have heard NOTHING from the club recently and why they are trying to gain every revenue stream they can.... I am utterly stunned...!!!!!
EastleighSoulBoy Posted 11 August, 2010 Posted 11 August, 2010 Exeter City forum, considering their shock loss only yesterday, have started a thread about Markus. http://www.exeweb.com/forums/showthread.php?p=1015840#post1015840
David Strover Posted 11 August, 2010 Posted 11 August, 2010 Rename the stadium - that's the easiest thing to do and I can't see anyone complaining about it......oh hold on.
bristolsaint29 Posted 11 August, 2010 Posted 11 August, 2010 tend to agree...the news is unreal...hard to believe well I guess we NOW KNOW why we have heard NOTHING from the club recently and why they are trying to gain every revenue stream they can.... Deppo Posted 11 August, 2010 Posted 11 August, 2010 I believe that this is NOT the time to be discussing Saints when his family and friends are dealing with this tragedy. I alos believe that now ML is gone Cortese is now our only link between the club and the billions that rescued us from disappearing altogether. Everyone who has been getting on Cortese's case these last few months (mainly Stu) need to stop and think what it might mean if Cortese was not part of the set up here, now Leibherr is gone.

Not really the time to discuss that sort of stuff mate.
lambertsrightleg Posted 11 August, 2010 Posted 11 August, 2010 now is not the time to discuss this. it is clear that this scenario is either not a shock or he had planned well in case of this. Southampton Football Club will live on regardless so let's not discuss this right now

Do you know it wasn't 'sudden' then TDD?
