TBH Alps, I am not one of those who subscribe to the theory that you are just a troll or WUM.

I always think of you as a miserableoldgit (!) - a glass half empty type, if you will, but I have to say the your post here sticks out like a sore thumb, on what is generally a positive and constructive thread - for a change. Can you REALLY see no positives at all in the the teams performances and AP`s management? Or is it REALLY all doom and gloom in your world?

Is it a positive and constructive thread ?

It seems to me most of the content is based on slagging our fan base off.

AP has assembled an excellent first XI. My problem is that I dont think he consistently gets the best out of them, whether that be due to tactics or motivation, I dont know.

Theres the rub... I perceive it as a thread that highlights how a positive contribution from fans can make a real difference to the team, if they get behind them.

It`s chicken and egg though isn`t it? Do supportive fans lead to good performances or is it good performances that lead to good support? What AP was saying, IMHO, was that there is a weight of expectation on the team this year, which is possibly putting extra pressure on both him and the team. The team needs the crowd to support them even when things are not going well. Twice in the last four days part of the crowd has booed the team - firstly at the end of Saturdays game and secondly at half-time last night. This, IMHO, is very unusual for a Saints crowd. All he was saying is that the crowd needs to stick with the team through thick and thin if we are to achieve success. The majority of posters on this thread seem to agree with this so I see that as positive. I certainly do not see telling the truth as slagging off the fanbase the way that those who were booing were slagging off the team.

Pardew is quite right to want to get the fans behind the team and its true that home advantage is mostly due to players raising their game in response to the crowd. I'm just not sure that criticising the fans is the best way to do this. He was being critical by talking about the negativity from the crowd without acknowledging the reasons for it. It was good that he went to the crowd at the end, but then he messed that up a bit by some mof what he said in his interview. As for the thing about teams raising their game when they come here - is that what caused Liverpool to put up their slogan 'This is Anfield'? Was it to encourage teams to raise their game? Hardly.

It would be nice to see less excuses and more confidence in Pardew's interviews. He leaves you feeling he's getting ready to explain away the next defeat instead of getting ready to take the credit for the next win. Maybe he could look at some Jose Mourinho interviews.

The performance of some posters on the match thread last night was appalling; it made quite disgusting reading but it was my only source of news from the match so I had to endure it. I am glad these moaners are on our side, I would hate to have them on the other side. Reading their abusive, nasty, and usually unmerited comments is not pleasant when all you want to do is support the team as best you can from a limited position due to various difficult circumstances.

Thank you all those who agree with my comments. I, like David from Sweden, have supported the club since I was a nipper. Yet I disagree that the supporters of yesteryear never moaned, booed or slow hand clapped and shouted abuse.

There is a huge difference with the situation today. In those days the board could easily be blamed for not spending money, for selling our best players and bringing in real K n o bs. We weren't coming back from the dead in those days, we were dead for almost as long as we'd been in existance. Then things improved and we came to life for a few years.

15 months ago we were dead and all but buried. What has since transpired is nothing short of miraculous. I personally shall be forever grateful to Marcus Liebherr, to Nicolas Cortese, who convinced the man to put in his money into the club, and also to Alan Pardew, whom I opposed, but has proved me very wrong.

Rome wasn't built in a day, and money doesn't always buy success. It helps and it also helps if a team has the general support of their supporter base. I recall the season on BOING and how West Brom almost became invincible due to their supporter belief and backing. Let us be grateful, let us show belief in the guys who have should their belief in our club, resurrected it, given it a future and believed we shall get back up there once ago.

If Nicolas Cortese is as bad, as evil as some are making out, he'd have had this forum, it's admins and half of the posters on here up in court. What's more he'd have done what should have been done long ago, issued the forum with a warning and if ignored close it down. That today's admins let posters blatantly get away with libelous postings, constant repetition and abuse of the club, the chairman, and manager is a sign of the times. I would go so far as to say this has come about because the admins are just as sick of reading it all and you and I and no longer bother to read what appears.

I've been looking forward to an outstanding season, one that I'm sure will happen. I am prepared to sit tight, go along for the ride and then, and only then, get upset if things don't work out. It took us almost 100 years to reach the Premiership and it's not going to come overnight. Yet, we have people in charge confident enough they can deliver. So do us and them one big favor and get behind them and support their belief. Amen

Ramadan Mubarak, may this be a time of peace, brotherly/sisterly love towards one another and a true revelation into conscience and knowledge to all humanity

This

Oh and Ramadan. What a pleasure, no loud noise in the bars, no traffic on the roads in the late afternoon and compulsory 6 hour working days and respect for other culture AND opinions

I'm going to go all Alpine here for a second, and I hope this is just a slip of the tongue as AP's trying to award some platitudes, but I'm a bit concerned if its apparently so easy for us to get bamboozled at home by the likes of Bournemouth.

For a start I think this comment should be put in context with the first part of the interview when AP said they were playing above their station, so this was a bit of a back-handed compliment TBF. But also, perhaps you and others have not come to terms with the fact that we ARE a club playing league one football, with a squad that is in many ways good enough to only compete in league one. Even though we've got a strong squad I think we'll see significant changes if we make it up to the Championship.

Sitting in the Itchen not far from the away supporters of which there were about 4000, two thirds of the Northam end. We couldn't hear the Northam except after we scored and the away suporters were quiet. It is like Liverpool giving giving up two thirds of the kop to the away supporters. It is probably less noticeable in the Kingsland as the home supporters at the Northam end are next to them. There is also the fact that the noisy Itchen North is no longer there. There is certainly a lot more the club itself could do to improve the home atmosphere.

If the club are serious about trying to improve the atmosphere they should consider getting the Northam to move lock stock and barrell to the Chapel end because clearly the away supporters won't be moved. It would then mean playing towards the noisy end in the second half.

Sorry, I think its far too easy to blame the supporters. How were the supporters responsible for the team being totally sh*t against Plymouth in the 2nd half right from the start ?

And if the team arent toned and there isnt enough competition for places, thats his fault.

You are hardly qualified to talk about 'support' are you? :rolleyes:The w@nkers that booed, are not fans, they are spoilt little shytes of a 'i want it all now but i'm not prepared to put the effort in' society.
