Thinking about buying one secondhand but have heard they can be expensive to maintain and to put right when things go wrong. Its that or a BMW Z3. Thoughts please?

Don't like BMW's usually but you can get a really good car for not much money with the Z3, as for the TT it will always be a hairdressers car in the eyes of most serious driving fans.

I think you're kidding yourself if you think the Z3 isn't a hairdressers car.

i had 3 audi TT's, never had a single problem with any of them. about 19k service interval, and nothing ever went wrong

try and get the 225 or the 3.2 v6 if you can, rather than the 180

loads more room in a TT as well, both in the front and the boot

When it comes to BMWs compared to Audis, the 'drivers' will go for the BMWs every time and leave the 'posers' to the Audis.

It's well known that the TT is a dull, dull drive for what it's supposed to be.

What Car disagree

What Car Z3 write up....Handling is very mediocre - it's certainly not as good as rivals such as the Mazda MX-5 - 3 stars out of 5

TT - 5 stars

Best of all, the TT drive almost well as it looks, with good performance from even the least powerful versions. Most have four-wheel drive - and excellent traction as a result - while the firm suspension gives sharp handling, although the low-speed ride is rather firm.
