saintscottofthenortham Posted 10 August, 2010 Posted 10 August, 2010 I read somewhere on here that is was due to the Contractors wanting some money up front and Cortese wanting to pay when they had completed! Contractual work of this size would work in phases. The job would be broken down into sections, once the contractor can show that a phase is complete to a relative standard then that phase would be invoiced for. Problems often occur when a contractor invoices for a completed phase then the Client (SFC) are unhappy about an aspect of the build.

Or if the client only wants to pay at the end of the entire project and believes they should be taken on their word.
B Rabbit Posted 10 August, 2010 Posted 10 August, 2010 Some contracts have clauses in to allow for purchasing of materials etc before works begin.....A contract of this size is 'more than likely' to be the responsibility of the contractor...and as said before....they'll be paid once it's all to the appropriate standards, as laid out in the contract. Someone will be wrong and someone will be right...just depends on what building contract they used....which we probably won't ever know. =)
Gingeletiss Posted 10 August, 2010 Posted 10 August, 2010 I gather work did start and certain elements have been completed. There was then a hitch which I am loath to reveal on here because I would get shot and now fresh builders are being sought. Duncan, this is just my take on things here. If what you allude to can be backed up with facts, real facts, then you have no reason to fear being shot down. So if you have something to share, then feel free, it's all the inuendo you come out with, that gets up my nose. Then of course you could be like the poster I'm just about to quote, who posts without any facts at all.....don't you Hypo.
Gingeletiss Posted 10 August, 2010 Posted 10 August, 2010 The builders had a disagreement with Cortese which resulted in them walking away. Prove it, don't just stir the sh1t, prove your above statement, both parts of it.

Ah ha... He must have seen that new BBC Tv series episode last week about the Cowboy Builders and that family in Fair Oak Think they made the point about 500 times - NEVER pay up in advance.....
