OldNick Posted 1 October, 2008 Share Posted 1 October, 2008 My match report is now on the main site. A good win, but let's not get carried away yet. Remember what happened last time we did that? stevegrant Posted 1 October, 2008 Share Posted 1 October, 2008 Steve a good report but!!! You put that KDs save cannioned off his shoulder, Im sorry but as far as i saw he pushed around the post. Only going by what I saw from Block 5 - looked like he basically put as much of his body in the way as possible and it ricocheted off his shoulder. Chap in the Chapel Posted 1 October, 2008 Share Posted 1 October, 2008 I was thinking along the same line, then take into account all that we have missing through injury and I believe fans are right to get carried away. When you looked at the team we had on the pitch at kick off, it was difficult to see us getting a result with such a weakened team of youngsters. Full praise to the kids, management and the couple of pensioners at the back for putting in a performance. A special mention must go to Kelvin, really has been a different player this season. Early days on Robertson, but he did give the impression he could make JP's system work as the lone striker. Lot of very good points came through, AL is class and Lancashire looks like he could dig us out of the hole at the back in time. We won't get into the play off's, but we have a good chance of getting out of jail. If we can then retain the neucleus of this squad, there is hope for the future. I see what you're getting at, but it depends if you consider last night's team to be a 'weakened' one. I don't know if it was a 'weak' team at this stage, so it comes down to judging the overall, full 90-minute performance. I don't think that Poortvliet knows what his best side is - even allowing for injuries and suspension, the fact that we've used 24 players already so far this season suggests that there's still a lot of tinkering going on. I also don't think that 25 minutes of olé stuff against 10 men glosses over the fact that we were second best for much of the first half and the start of the second, and we still face the same problems - physically we're not yet competitive enough and we lose too many headers. Yes, it came together last night, but it didn't against Blackpool. Still, we're on a little run now - I hope it continues.
OldNick Posted 1 October, 2008 Share Posted 1 October, 2008 Only going by what I saw from Block 5 - looked like he basically put as much of his body in the way as possible and it ricocheted off his shoulder. from my seat in block 42 just to the right of his r/h post he palmed it around. You have now got me doubting it and will want to watch it to know for sure.By it hitting him takes away a little the save IMO, so I hope Iam right as it was a waonderful moment. The whole result I could see disappearing in front of me at that second. Yes had Norwich scored first or even equalised it would have been a much different picture, but what happened after the 2nd goal may be a sign of what we could achieve if the players confidence does in fact rise and we get into a safer position. Wotton was having treatment and so unavailable and will be back saturday to be picked, so that is another bonus IMO.

It was a great reaction save. From my seat in the Kingsland at the half-way line I could see that he reacted by raising his right arm and palmed the ball up and away. It was certainly the turning-point of the game. A great result directly resulting from the brilliance of KD and all the key decisions going our way for once. I came away feeling that I had got my money's worth for a change. Can we play against 10 men every week please?

From my seat in block 34 he certainly seem to palm the first one away and the second one seemed to be a complete reaction get anything onto the ball an amazing save. I think full credit here also to Malcolm Webster who despite my concerns after losing David Coles has proved a worthy successor - look at Richard Wright and what MW did for him here and how bad he is at Ipswich. Chez Posted 1 October, 2008 Share Posted 1 October, 2008 (edited) What a terrific game, it had absolutely everything. Great football, a sending off, chances at both ends, an amazing goal and some great saves. Once 2-0 up and a man in front we carved them open time after time with some delightful passing football. Their keeper made two world class saves that stopped it being a rout. I came away from the game with a huge smile on my face. I know Davis' great saves changed the game and the result could easily have been different without them, but I just want to bask in the glory of a wonderful home win. He's my points for those that give a ****. Davis - 9 the first 1 on 1 was a brilliant reaction save, the second great positional play. The one from the corner hit him more than anything. A couple of dreadful passes that put us in trouble. James 5 - skinned easily by the winger, looked slow, messed about with it at times instead of clearing his lines. Crap in the air. He improved as the game went on but for me he's not good enough at RB. Perry - 8 kept waiting for Siberski to chest it down then he nipped in and stole it time after time. Lancashire 7 - one tremendous long drilled pass out to the left turned defence into atatck and we nearly scored. Looks comfortable bringing the ball down. Tried to take the striker on when he was the last man and got caught. Terrible error that he must learn from. Mills 7 - gets the wrong side now and then, and last night found Croft a real handful, but I love the way he just gets stuck in. Gave a few fouls away but they we all in non dangerus areas and they let Croft know he was there. Great find. Surman - 7.5 If you are going to play a passing game then Surman is the sort of player you need in midfield. Got up and down and hussled well. He and cork look very similar from the back row. Cork - 7.5 another decent game in midfield and like Surman is wasted at the back. Can we get him for the season? Lallana - 10 Best game of the season for me. I have said it for a while now that if you are going to have a player in a free roll then you must supply him all the time. Last night we did and he was excellent. Even when a poor pass came to him he turned it into a good one with his great first touch. Looked a £5m player last night. McGoldrick - 7.5 offers James nothing defensively and from time to time he was far too casual. When things are going well he is a good player to have as he gets the ball down and plays. One tremendous cross with his wrong foot caught my eye. At home he's handy on the RHS but away from home I'd like to see a 4-4-2 Robertson 7 - Scored one of the best goals I have seen at SMS for years. Some decent touches and held the ball up well. He offered Mills no cover at all when playing on the left and was then moved inside. Pekhart - 6 - I didn't think he was doing that badly. He certainly played exactly the same at Donny. He is a tall lad but thats about it so far. BWP 6 - the left foot pile driver that hit the bar would have been an amazing goal. Thought he offered more support to Mills than Robertson. dubai_phil Posted 1 October, 2008 Share Posted 1 October, 2008 I take full credit for the result last night. Learnt the lesson on Saturday - keep off the prediction thread, keep off the build up thread. Stay away from the commentary, and don't post in the match threads. And look what happens! That's now 3 league games - Derby, Donny & Norwich Which poses a dilemna - what the frack am I going to do for the day when we're on telly? Great result, got the text on the way back from the pub. Won't get carried away as consistency takes time with the youngsters but another giant leap in the right direction after the massive backwards steps in the previousl couple of weeks. Well done to the gallant 14,

Stu Man Do Posted 1 October, 2008 Share Posted 1 October, 2008 James is never as bad as people say he is IMO. He seems to be treated quite harshly. A Jasmine Wright for our times? To be fair to him I thought he coped well tonight aside from a few misguided passes. Great game and I thought even BWP looked alright today =]

Comentary starts with BWP diguised as McGoldrick attacking down the right. Was surprised that the "World class saves" kelvin made didnt make it into the highlights. Think 1 of them did but it wasnt a great angle. Perfect angle of Jordans goal though and in all honestly it took my breath away. An absolute peach of a goal and a contender for goal of the season if you ask me.
