Not sure they will as they had a great young footballing team last time... lost many of those players. Maybe we can do the same though!!!

Kelvin is god, kept us in it again with some brilliant saves, by far our best player so far this season. Great goal by the new boy as well, should have had far more than 2 mind. Burnsie Posted 30 September, 2008 Share Posted 30 September, 2008 Great stuff in the last half hour tonight, although it could so easily have been very different but for Davis's two wondersaves right before the second goal and sending off. After that, Saints overran them with ease. Before that, it was close but Saints probably shaded it. Sibierski looked dangerous in the first half and was a hair's breadth from scoring, and the Canaries' wingers caused havoc at times. As for individual performances, man-of-the-match must be Davis, edging Lallana (who looked a class act today - taking the **** at times). Honorable mention to Jordan Robertson, who looked the player that Pekhart aspires to be: big, physical, with a turn of pace and terrific touch. And the goal was absolutely breathtaking - I was right behind the line of it, and I've seen few so spectacular in all my days watching football. Greenridge Posted 30 September, 2008 Share Posted 30 September, 2008 Just got back and very happy. Enjoyed that very very very much! KD was freeking awsome in goal and dont want to be negative but can see him going in January! My only downer on the night was the fact that we were very weak down the right. James was horrific and that is no understatement. The 'problem' with our formation is there is no protection for the full backs. To operate with no wide midfield cover you need outstanding full backs and very mobile centre-halves. We don't have that. Robertson was outstanding and I was pleased to see JP recognise he was no left winger and put him straight up the middle. KD was also top drawer and his saves kept us in the game when it could have been very different. Norwich could easily have been 2 or 3 up in the first half. As for our 'penalty' well cough cough LOL!
Give it to Ron Posted 30 September, 2008 Share Posted 30 September, 2008 A great tactical switch by JP was a big factor in this win, we were getting murdered with Jordan on the left as they strolled through the gap behind him - not his fault we were too lop sided. Jordan to the middle and BWP closing down the space in front of Fish countered the Norwich threat and pushed them back with BWP pace - if not his touch which is further than I can kick it! KD 2 saves were world class not just very good bloody awesome!!! His distribution was excellant too. We need to kill teams off as I never felt comfortable at 2-0 I guess my nerves haven't recovered from Leeds! 3 points is all that matters - we were shocking at times in the first half but terrific at times in the second. BotleySaint Posted 30 September, 2008 Share Posted 30 September, 2008 Brilliant night and with a bit more luck it could have been 4 or 5-0. But, we really rode our luck in defence on a few occasions and if it wasn't for Kelvin we'd have had a 2-2 draw I think.
St Marco Posted 30 September, 2008 Share Posted 30 September, 2008 Well that was a very enjoyable game i thought. One which obviously could of gone either way before we got the luck again. I think it is about time we had luck on our side as how many times has it been us in the other teams place with things like that. Robertsons goal i have no idea if it was a cross or a shot but if it was a shot that has to be amongst the best goals i seen. The boy i felt was class and made a huge difference. Tell them they can keep Dyer for him! Sure Norwich had some great chances and again if it wasent for Davis it would of been a different story, but overall i think we deserved to win. The ref was a joke to be fair and if that tackle was a red card then most games would finish with just 1 person playing. The penalty was 100% right though in my book. It is hard to decide who deserves man of the match as i felt Lallana was excellent as was Robertson and Davis. So i think i will give it to all three. Now the negatives.....If we haden't got the bits of luck we have in the past few games we would not have won. Lets not go off on some delusion crusade here people. We are creating chances but we are missing them. The shot/cross goal and penalty today, the penalty and the own goal at the weekend etc.. we need to start actually taking our chances. DMG wasted so many shots again and apart of me didnt want him to take the penalty as i thought he didnt deserve it. I would of let Robertson or Surman take it. As with the defence we let them create so many chances too easy and on 9 out of 10 days playing like that will see you get burried. We can't rely on Davis to keep bailing us out. BWP again showed he is not up to par and James i felt was a bit too weak. Lancashire i also worry a bit about. But a win is what is important and the manner of it. This was the best performance this year thus far and you can see the difference 3 players make to a team. They deserved to win and they deserve the applause they get. Seeing the standing ovation was a nice momment. The fans were tremendous today and made the home atmosphere so much more enjoyable then what it had bee. Fair enough the other displays have been awful but this one i think showed they do care and they do want to fight for the club. They can take great confidence form this game and hopefully push on from here. Also i think your right exit about selling Davis. Someone who i spoke to at the game mentioned there were a few scouts watching probably Lallana and Davis. He said one was from Bolton and one from maybe Fulham. Now how he knows that or if it is true i have no idea but i would not be surprised out all if it were true. So if Premiership teams are watching then you can be sure CCC teams are too. If we lose those 2 players in January we will be effectivley commiting suicide i think.

um pahars Posted 30 September, 2008 Share Posted 30 September, 2008 After two shy7te home performances I finally get my moneys worth!!!!! Really good team showing, with a few outstanding performances (and a couple of not so good ones) in there as well. Norwich were pretty accomodating in that they weren't overly physical, but was really pleased with the way we played for the majority of the game today. Started brightly, but Norwich started to get into the game before Robertson curled in a beauty from outside the box and fairly wide left. Then came the turning point. Two outstanding saves from Davis (although maybe he didn't know much abou the second) ensured Norwich didn't draw level, and then within a couple of minutes Skatenovic pulled down Lallana who although he was going nowhere was just too good for the defender. Skatenovic made things worse by going loopy at the ref who promptly sent him packing. After that it was all Saints with McGoldricj spurning a couple of god chances, Lallana looking awesome and Davis making another god save. Davis - 9 - Outstanding, full of confidence, great saves. A different player to last season. James - 6 - Tried his best, but a definite weak point in the team. Perry - 8 - Solid performance from an experienced pro. A great signing. Lancashire - 7 - Looked much more comfortable than in the QPR game. Mills - 7 - Had a good game and looked comfortabe at left back Surman - 9 - The Surman of old was back after being relesed from the shackles of left back. Poortvliet needs to make sure he doesn't put him back there. At times was running the game. Cork - 7 - Fairly solid, just didn't want the ball as much as Surman. McGoldrick - 6 - Sorry, but don't rate him. Missed two good chances, put himself about a bit, but he's not a wide right player, nor is he a centre forward in my eyes. Robertson - 8 - Looked very good (certainly better than Dire!!!!). Well taken goal and a great debut. Lallana - 9 - Pure class. Always showing for the ball, always ready to give and go. My tip would be just to watch him for five mins whilst the play is going on to see his movement (plus I fear you won't be able to watch him after january!!). Pekhart - 5 - Didn't do much and presume was injured. Wright-Phillips - 4 - Should have subed the sub in my eyes. get s a 4 cos he won a header late on! Paterson - 5 - Not on long enough. A couple of other thoughts were that I really rated Croft for Norwich, pity his team didn't want to help him out (he also showed a nice touch by going round all the Saints players at the end, even though he had been subbed). And as for the referee, well fccuk me where do they get them from. Gave some appalling decisions against both teams.

Ian the Red Posted 30 September, 2008 Share Posted 30 September, 2008 Wonderful win, just what was needed. Some interesting comments. Apline being nearly optimistic!! Whatever next!! We look gr8 going forward but for two absolutely wonderful outstanding saves from KD Norwich would have been level. So whilst we have kept a clean sheet again we were a little luckly!! Have it it on good authority that MS has only a slight niggle, nothing to do with the injury. Should have ben 5-0 once the ex skate was sent off!! Its funny how opinions different, i've just been to probably the most entertaining game at SMS for a very long time and how people still find the negatives in that performance sometimes amazes me. I thought James man was tricky fast and on his game and i thought despite his inexperience coped with the task well. I cant remember seeing such an intelligent performance from a group of young players in such a very long time.As for Kelvin, he was outstanding with two of the saves worldclass. He's taken along time to win over SMS but he was truely outstanding and deserved the applause at the end.

Gordon Mockles Posted 30 September, 2008 Share Posted 30 September, 2008 (edited) I am extremely pleased to say, GREAT GAME!! Couldn't ask for more. That's 2 games knocking 4 off our negative goal difference, confidence steeply increasing (we needed it!), a dominating performance when the luck (for a change) went our way, loads of chances, neat, intricate passing, plenty of action & the Skate got sent off!! Jordan made an impressive debut (looking at his stats, he likes scoring in debuts) & Lallana superb. Was Cork in the holding role as he looked controlled, composed & superb? Thought Mills did well at LB (prefer him to Surman) & Davis was outstanding. We scored the opener on the break & Davis made the stop at a pivotal time which could have totally changed the game. Proves how important the right moves (crucial saves & a goal to drop opposition heads) are in winning a game. Norwich seemed to totally lose it after looking threatening early on. Superb game. More of the same please... Except Bradley. He's rubbish! Edited 30 September, 2008 by Gordon Mockles

thefuriousb Posted 30 September, 2008 Share Posted 30 September, 2008 Norwich could easily have been 2 or 3 up in the first half. As for our 'penalty' well cough cough LOL! How would they have managed that when KD didn't have a save to make until the second half, when he DID make 2 superb stops/saves when it was still 1-0 (and again with a min to go which could have made stoppage time hellish). we had just as many chances as Norwich throughout the game. So even if i cede to your logic, then we would have scored 2 or 3 ourselves. No?

Stanley Saint Posted 30 September, 2008 Share Posted 30 September, 2008 I feel like I may be in a very small minority here (alright, completely on my own) but I thought BWP did a good job tonight. We looked much more dangerous with him on the left and Robertson in the centre than we did when Pekart was on, and if his shot just before half-time had been half an inch lower, we would have had two potential goals of the season in 20 minutes. There were moments in the second half when their defence had BWP, DMG, Lallana and Robertson all buzzing around them, playing diagonal balls etc that were amazing. Anyway, can't remember enjoying a match so much for a long time. Kelvin is king.
