Just a few comments from Charlton fans regarding AP's approach to buying players:

His strategy at West Ham and here was to buy 7 or 8 players, expect 3 to work out and dump the rest.

He wasn't a rubbish manager?- The man was a clueless tosser who acquired players like they were becoming extinct with no overall strategy.

By the end of it yes he was rubbish for us, but he went a bit mad buying players we didn't need and didn't fill the right gaps.

We have the cash (so long as Mr Liebherr is prepared to keep opening hs chequebook) to splash out on 7 or 8 players in the hope that 3 work out, but I can't see NC being too chuffed to fund a manager who works like this indefinitely. Without wanting to single out any player I can't help but think Dickson is another example of an average squad player that probably won't work out. Histor repeating itself me thinks.

Do let us know when we sign these 8 players, with a pointless thread. Dickson looks like a great player.

Not really.

Every single signing he made last year improved the team, the only question mark signing was Mellis.

Dickson had a decent game, im a bit baffled by the comments from some that he was rubbish. He's proven with brentford that he's one of the best at this level.

So i'm not sure what you're on about tbh. Bit silly getting the views from Charlton fans too, obviously they'll have nothing good to say about him - but their situation wasn't single handily down to pardew.

Lol. We have people complaining we're taking too long to buy people and he's being too circumspect, yet you drag up past history to try and claim the opposite, whilst suggesting a player who had a good debut, is young and was picked up cheaply is part of this imaginary problem.

Good effort!

From what i've heard it's Cortese who doesn't wanna play stupid wages to players just because they know we are rich (Aliadiere + Adu etc) so you've got the wrong end of the stick.

Dickson also played very well against Reading.

You may not have been impressed with him today but having only seen him play once I don't know how you can come to the conclusion that he is an average sqaud player. Give him 5-10 games and you're entitled to an opinion but you can't really comment on him like that after 1 game.

I can and I have and i'll admit I was wrong if he improves.

That's a fair enough comment if true. We're supposed to have one the richest owners so I am surprised tbh because we need to get in some quality players and not just squad players. Aside from Lallana, Lambert, and Connolly (he's probably past it now even when fit) we're just average.

thought he was good and possibly going to be first choice LB.

what bad signings has he made for us?

But he didn't get rich by just splashing his cash needlessly. Our transfer policy so far has been sensible and fair, we haven't really paid OTT for anyone.

Morgan and Fonte are also quality players fyi.

Well perhaps he needs to realise this isn't a conventional business and should dig into his bottonless pit of gold to deliver some more JPT final moments. If ML wants Saints back in the PL so him and his family have regular top days out he's going to have to consider us more as a hobby than a business.

Even I have my criticisms of Pardew sometimes, but his transfer dealings since he's been with us have been superb. The only one I would possibly question was Mellis, and even he created a couple of goals for us.

Posted

Alan Pardew is going to be leaving before December if he don't get us in the top 4, also if we lose against Bournemouth it increases his chances of leaving.

Don't ask me for source because it is private, it is a player for the saints who told me but i can not say who.

Posted

So, we didn't have to ask you for the source, as you went steaming right in there to tell us it's a player. Nice one....

I'm pretty certain that an owner or chairman isn't going to tell a player that he's going to sack the manager in December if we're not in the top 4. What I would say is that it's not rocket science to expect him to be under serious pressure by then if we're outside of the top 2.

It's true a player told you. Sure, I believe that a player may have said that to a complete stranger - plenty wouldn't though.

It carries little weigh though because of my points above...which are:

1. I'm pretty certain that an owner or chairman isn't going to tell a player that he's going to sack the manager in December if we're not in the top 4.

2. It's not rocket science to expect him to be under serious pressure by then if we're outside of the top 2.

"... buy 7 or 8 players, expect 3 to work out and dump the rest".

The signings that Pardew has made since being with us have been nothing like that. Nearly all his signings have improved the squad. Most of them have gone straight into the first team. The strategy you describe seemed to be the m.o. during the time of Strachan, Burley and Redknapp. No longer the case.

i have said this all along, he makes kevin keegan look like a tactical genius

Tactically he is a bit worrying for me, as well as his subs some times.

But commenting on his signings is pretty laughable, who has he signed that hasn't improved the team ?

Saying Dickson was terrible just solidifies my belief that you know the square root of 0 about football, if he keeps crossing the way he was today Lambert will have a field day.

you are joking, right?

Thought Dickson was one of our best players tbh - put in some cracking crosses in the first half, just a shame there was no-one to get on the end of them.

Who cares what Charlton fans think?. They are a miserable bunch just living off a few good years with an exceptional manager who did well with a very average squad. Pardew will be judged here in Southampton this season not on past performances however others judge them.

Absolutely spot on at half time I was most impressed with our left side. If RL had been in the middle it would have been a very different pot morgen we're having. Finishing was our problem today.

Well, just to play devil's advocate, it is possible that AP himself (rather than NC) told some of his players that he isn't expecting to retained if we're not in the top 4 by Christmas.
