Kingsbridge Saint Posted 7 August, 2010 Share Posted 7 August, 2010 Harding had a shocking second half, Davis's distribution went to pieces and Jaidi looked very shaky too. Puncheon did nothing and the two strikers were limp. All in all a **** start and a total embarrassment in front of the cameras AGAIN. We are supposed to be favourites for this league and we made Plymouth look like Real ****ing Madrid. Sort it out Pardew, I'm already ****ed off. Smirking_Saint Posted 7 August, 2010 Share Posted 7 August, 2010 So, ...pre-season results dont matter ... result from first game of season doesnt matter too Can someone please enlighten me as to when winning is important if you seek promotion ? Its a marathon Alpine FFS not a sprint, cliche maybe but a true one. Manure never start a season well either, one loss isn't a disaster, there are a lot of positives, we played well, passed well just played the wrong balls to the small strikers. Lambert will be back soon and/or another striker, lets not panic eh ? We have the ability and showed it today.

Topcat Posted 7 August, 2010 Share Posted 7 August, 2010 This. Take out Lallana and Lambert and we're bog standard. These provided 50 of our goals last season. A massive gap to fill. Anyone have the stats on the game? I reckon we had 12 shots of which only 2 were on target. It is the lack of shots on target that is the problem. Smirking_Saint Posted 7 August, 2010 Share Posted 7 August, 2010 Ability for promotion ? Erm, no, I dont think we did, actually... Sometimes i struggle i really do. First half we dominated, played good football and hit some good crosses, we lacked the hold up man up front, this will be rectified soon.

David Strover Posted 7 August, 2010 Share Posted 7 August, 2010 And although it does have no real bearing on this result or season Reading in their record breaking promotion season lost their first game of the season 3-1 at home to Plymouth Argyle and Swindon lost 5-0 at Tranmere last season and Norwich 7-1 at home to Colchester. So although I have already started to think it is new season, same old ****e this result may have no bearing on the coming 45 games. Trouble is I am beginning to think that no matter who owns us, who manages us, who plays for us, we just are a pretty mediocre not very good football club. Time to just except it I guess..... Smirking_Saint Posted 7 August, 2010 Share Posted 7 August, 2010 The match comprised two halves. TBF we didn't do that bad in the second, Plymouth won due to a mistake from the off, which is dissapointing, as our build up play and delivery was very good, along with the stone wall defending by Plymouth and there you go, we were unlucky. If we play like that every week we will be fine
SaintBobby Posted 7 August, 2010 Share Posted 7 August, 2010 I'm speechless. Me too. We need to play much better than that to get near the play offs

Smirking_Saint Posted 7 August, 2010 Share Posted 7 August, 2010 Fine as in not relegated or fine as in league 1 champions? If we play like that week in week out we will be promoted, to say we will be relegated like that is laughable, another day and we would have got on the end of the crosses and put them away, Lambert will be back soon and hopefully a proper replacement in case he is out again. Apart from the goal we defended well, we passed well and had excellent delivery, Plymouth got away with it, defended well but on another day the blocks perhaps wouldn't have happened. It didn't go our way today no more no less, watch the floodgates open at MK if we play like that.

Smirking_Saint Posted 7 August, 2010 Share Posted 7 August, 2010 With 1 shot on goal? Thats what Plymouth won it with We had 2 Another day we would have got on the end of the crosses or the plymouth defence wouldn't have got the blocks in on time thats all. I am going to finish on this note Am i dissapointed ? Yes. Does AP need to find a plan b ? Yes but for that we need rickie or a rickie type player. Was there positives ? Yes, we defended well (apart from a mistake) and played some good football, hit some good crosses and looked threatening. We were just a bit toothless today, but last year we were 2nd top scorers so it will come. Rickie would have had a field day today.
SaintBobby Posted 7 August, 2010 Share Posted 7 August, 2010 With 1 shot on goal? Exactly. Maybe 0 0 or 1 1 would have been a fair result, but with just one or two shots on target, we were never going to win easily. Plymouth did defend doggedly, but we can expect that all season. Most worrying thing is we did not look fit in the second half.
ericofarabia Posted 7 August, 2010 Share Posted 7 August, 2010 I blame Phil ... I don't ever recall in the whole history of SFC that we have won an opening day of the season game when he's started the match day fred!! Off the team's back folks ... !! I think this is right up there with Tommy Docherty's bus driver excuse!!

I would only be concerned if we things didnt go our way on a regular basis. You would then have to look at the system. The players we have are good enough to put us in the top 5 by the end of season. Junior Mullet Posted 9 August, 2010 Share Posted 9 August, 2010 2 things to share. I looked up at Cortesse at the final whistle. He just looked down and muttered something which looked a lot like "my god" to himself before turning around and marching up the steps. He wasnt happy and ignored everyone else in the area. Anyone know who the big lad, with No. 40 on his shorts was? He joined in the pre-game kick about but never made the bench. Looked Eastern European and wasnt communicating with the others. I would say he looked like a lumpy centre half or forward. It defo wasn't Skacel tho!

the saint in winchester Posted 9 August, 2010 Share Posted 9 August, 2010 SKY out That's not a bad shout ... albeit locking the stable door after the horse has bolted. If we can ban photographers and journalists, surely we can say to Sky 'we don't want you to film here; highlights will be on Saints TV tomorrow - 30 quid a year for your membership'. We don't need the Sky money, after all. Guys, I know we CAN'T do this really.
