tedmaul Posted 14 August, 2010 Share Posted 14 August, 2010 Anyone else watching. I reckon we have a chance. Somerset's real strength is their batting and we did well to restrict them.

dubai_phil Posted 14 August, 2010 Share Posted 14 August, 2010 cricinfo.com Kieswetter's got the helmet on now, he'll obviously be coming up to the stumps. Huge cheers as the head groundsman completes the lines and trots off... A wicket and Somerset win, a run and Hampshire win There's another hold up here, there are no white lines marked on the outfield so the runner would be running across with no idea where the line is. If it came to a line-call by the third umpire at the end there'd be no way of judging it. And the groundstaff are coming out to mark the lines now. "Have they no homes to go to these people?" asks Bumble, quite reasonably 19.5 de Bruyn to Christian, 2 runs, what fielding on the boundary! It was another short ball, this time Christian absolutely hammered the pull out into the deep, but the fielder pulled off a remarkable sliding stop. They run back for two... but Christian's pulled a hamstring! Can he run this single? Jimmy Adams comes out as the runner. What drama! 2 from 1 to win, but if Hampshire get 1 they win by losing fewer wickets What would a dot ball do now? The pressure is palpable... They're changing the ball again. The umpire brought one out but Trescothick wasn't happy, it was much much whiter than the last one. So they're looking for a slightly older, but still dry, one 19.4 de Bruyn to Ervine, 1 bye, another short ball, again beating the batsman! They steal another bye, both batsmen could have been run out! Leg Bye Hampshire win. Well done lads

Weston Saint Posted 15 August, 2010 Share Posted 15 August, 2010 What a great day. chrisobee Posted 15 August, 2010 Share Posted 15 August, 2010 LOL at Christian running. COuld he have been run out (technically going for a second run )then or would the first run have counted anyway??? No panic, the 1st run would have counted but scores and wickets lost would then have been equal so who knows how they decide it then ! I care not now Fully justified the decision to not pick KP even though some people thought we needed him with so many players out, I said we didn't and the young guys delivered, Corky bowled superly, Razzaq scored some vital runs and it was truly an 11 man effort rather than 10 men plus one prima donna. Superb though my nerves are still in shreds. What a transformation.

manji Posted 15 August, 2010 Author Share Posted 15 August, 2010 What a fantastic day ! Where to start ? In a way I was more stressed by the first game really tight and it would have been terrible being knocked out at the beginning.... even the rain didnt spoil it because the weather was amazing in the evening.. All our players were superb a great team effort but a big shout for Rassak as he had been heavily criticized but he really delivered in both games and it obviously meant a lot for him. I must give out a big minus 10 for all those knobbers running around winding up the Green Team by building beer snakes during a really important part of the Hants innings..... ****s. Razzaq said when he arrived he was really looking forward to play for us. Maybe lack of form took the wind out of his sails a bit but he really did the business when it mattered and I'm sure he was desperate to do well, fair play to him but as before we had a real team playing out there, Christian might easily have opted out after the bad blow he took in the Championship match but no doubt he was keen to get there as well along with everyone else. I'm not even going to think about our best player on the day, I'll just name all 11 as well as those who contributed in earlier matches. Now if we can build on the confidence and keep our place in Division 1 of the Championship I'll be very happy !

John Boy Saint Posted 15 August, 2010 Share Posted 15 August, 2010 A trophy 2 seasons running that has to be applauded in itself, that last few overs were tense, but what great viewing on a Saturday night fair better than all the usual TV fair! Christian just ran that last one on auto-pilot, hit the ball and run like the wind!!

A thank you from Sir David Frost, a chat with Peter Storrie followed by a chat with Terry the builder, and a cuddle from Rod Bransgrove at the end. Who said Cricket was dull!! I must admit to not being the greatest fan of 20/20 though days like yesterday and England's win a few months back in the World Cup show it does have a place, it's clearly here to stay anyway! I just would like to see less games and/or perhaps play 2 games at the same ground in one day to make it pretty much a full day's entertainment and less time therefore used up in the process. Clearly even with poor weather it is possible to play 3 games, the fact it was of course 2 knock out semis and then a final makes it far more exciting for myself, I used to much prefer the old knock out style of 50 over cricket. Finally a word about Rod Bransgrove, I'm always delighted for him when we win something as he really does love Hampshire and he deserves a successful side. Would be nice to add the County Championship in the next few seasons, with the players we have coming through I think we have a great chance though even more reason to stay up this season. I'm not sure if Christian wasn't still dazed by the blow he took a few days ago:D
wadesmith Posted 15 August, 2010 Share Posted 15 August, 2010 Greatest achievement in Hampshires one-day history in my opinion, 3 nineteen year olds & one player just turned twenty. 3 players born in Hampshire & one Isle of Wight. 5 players that would normally walk into the team either not selected or injured. And we one our last four games against the four best one-day teams in the country. No-one should underate this achievement just cos it's 20-20. I agree, I totally coated off Razzaq after the Somerset game when he conceded about 60 runs in 4 overs, I also thought McKenzie was a load of crap as well, so I put my hands up to that one & for once I am glad to have been proved wrong. They were both superb last night.
