So who is going ? We have excellent tickets membership area. Shame Hants/Essex is first game as it could put dampers if we lose.

Anyone know if the England players are available ? I know we are not interested in KP even if he was, but what about Broad, Swann etc.?

Posted

3rd test v Pakistan starts on 18th so on that basis I'd not imagine England wanting to risk players in a 20/20 match or 2. However, I'm not aware of anything definite on this, more than likely Flower and Co will maybe want a few players to get some extra match time ( though playing 20/20 is useless in terms of Test match preparation) and expect the Counties to dance to their tune. Thankfully Hants took a view not to play Pietersen v Kent and would surely do the same again.

As stated we are looking at Broad and Swann for Notts, Cook for Essex and that's all isn't it ?

Andy Flower has just said on Sky, that Broad, Swann, Cook and KP are all free to play on Finals Day.

Nasser Hussein has supported Hants in not selecting him. "Playing for your County is a two-way thing and Kevin hasn't done anything for Hants in the last 4 years, so he cant turn round and say ' Let me come down for finals day.' It's not a one-way door."

Good on Nasser. Although he might not want KP playing against Essex. ;)

Warney then said " It would be nice if KP went and supported Hants even if he wasn't selected." When asked if he would be selected, or if not, turn up and support, he said " Neither."

We're going and can't wait. Membership tickets in Block V

I've been to three finals days before (two at Edgbaston and one at Trent Bridge) and they are always good fun.

Great that Hampshire have made it finally and will add something extra to the day. Especially if we get to the final.

I think Notts will win though as they'll be too strong for everyone else. Swann, Broad, Sidebottom, Hussy, etc

Posted

Of course Lumb should be selected ahead of Pietersen, regardless of his poor form a while back he is 100% a Hampshire player, in spite of KP saying "I'll be cheering on the lads !" does anyone really care about someone for whom Hants are not even in his list of priorities. Good riddance to him.

Pietersen should be made to turn up and be the waterboy. Too far to travel from Chelsea is he having a laugh!!

I'm going with my nipper a bit gutted that I'll miss our away game at Franchise.

Both Cork and Ervine picked up back injuries yesterday.

Yes I know. But even with a few injuries would anyone still want KP ? It's really bowlers we could struggle with, is Dawson fit as he's not played lately has he ?

Posted
I would not think Hughes is here yet. I hope Razzak is available, never thought I would say that.

Well Hughes could only play anyway if Christian or Razzaq were not in the team, I am hoping McKenzie is still free. Anyone know for sure ? Why would Razzaq not be available?

Lol, but with so many injuries he could still end up playing:(

I'm struggling to pick eleven fit players. Assuming Cork and Ervine miss out though that isn't certain then even though Tomlinson is generally not played in 20/20 I would pick him:

Carberry, Adams, Vince, McKenzie, Christian, Razzaq, Bates, Briggs, Jones, Tomlinson, Wood,

+ Balcombe, Dawson, Riazhuddin. Anyone who is fit I have missed ?

I suspect from reports bowling is the problem for Ervine so play him as a batsman only ?

Posted

I'll be amazed if Cork doesn't play, even if he needs about 20 painkilling injections before and during the game. He won't want to miss it, particularly as captain.

Posted

I hope Corky does play, as it is 20/20 the risk is of course less ( aside from the frantic fielding at times). I hope Ervine makes it as well, whatever happens we surely wouldn't pick Pietersen especially as it is our all rounder/bowlers who are mainly suffering and with Carberry, Adams, Vince and McKenzie that fills our top 4 at least and hopefully Ervine at 5 even if he doesn't bowl.

All things considered we are heading for a reasonable draw v Somerset. Without Cork and Ervine for most of the Somerset innings Tomlinson bowled 32 overs( excellent 7-85), Christian 22.1 and Briggs 27.5. Even McKenzie weighed in with 10 tidy overs, 0-24.

132 behind on 1st innings Hants are 177/3 at tea with McKenzie on 40 and Christian 26. Of course Lumb hasn't batted and I doubt Ervine/Cork will be allowed to bat above 7 having been off the field for much of the Somerset Innings ( we had 3 substitute fielders at one point including physio Craig DeWeymarn who confused a lot of people by wearing Cork's shirt and this developed into a real farce when for some reason Christian wore Ervine's sweater when he went off :D ).

If this is the case then Bates, Briggs or Tomlinson will have to bat at 6 which would seem totally unreasonable to me and I'm wondering if this is the case then surely this rule about players being off the field batting no higher than 7 needs to be looked at as our disadvantage is enough already.

Posted

Hants 224-4, match drawn. Not that it really mattered in the end but Bates did bat at 6, 16 not out and another good knock by McKenzie, 60 not out. Lancs lost v Durham which is good.

Vince also regained a little bit of form with 43.

Thank frack for that !

Yes, imagine the possibility of having to beg KP to play as we didn't have enough players ! A few Sky pundits ( who should know better) were saying he should be selected even if only Lumb was out. Why ? Do we really need him so much, he's in poor form anyway despite 80 v Pakistan, was a very scratchy innings.

I would they were hoping KP would play to add to their viewing figures !

They should get more than enough anyway ! As for Ervince I think it was maybe to do with the fact that with so many players wearing different players shirts and sweaters he had on his own sweater but Vince's shirt and it proved all too confusing for the Echo reporter:D

Or maybe it was Vince wearing the wrong shirt/sweater !!

Almost lost another one it seems :

http://www.skysports.com/cricket/match_report/0,19822,11066_85254,00.html

"there was a nasty moment when Christian had the grille of his helmet penetrated by a Zander de Bruyn (1-17) bouncer.

Blood was pouring from the bridge of the Australian's nose but, after several minutes of treatment, he bravely continued."

Not sure I have ever known one team have so many injuries in the same match !

Posted
Our (ahem) good friends at the Echo had a back page headline "Cork and Ervince at centre of injury scares."

Ervince?? Some kind of scientific hybrid? What next, Brams? Work? Carson?

Maybe cloning is the way to go for Hampshire. We either sign em and they get called up or injured and sometimes both......

looks as if we're getting tonked about a bit. Our poor bowling will cost us dear this season.

Still never mind it's only a game

You cant get into a final with poor bowling Briggs, Woods and Corky all brilliant.

Posted

So chuffed for em. We've got in the final the right way. Some young local players. Sme old knckered players, and it's justified not picking Peterson, and we didn't sign a star player for 1 game only. Great achievement. have to win the final now though.

There's a bloke in the crowd dressed up up like Snow White, and he is the spitting image of MLT.

If Hants win this, will they get invited to St Mary's like they did a couple of years back. The Northam sang '2 teams in ampsher, there's only 2 teams in amsher'.
