Saint in Paradise Posted 6 August, 2010 Posted 6 August, 2010 I am the first to admit to being very dim with computers so please be kind to me We are having people stay and look after our house and "just in case" I want to prevent any access by them to my computers, to protect them as well as me. Please would someone using an idiot proof guide tell me how to do this, will it also stop anyone plugging into a USB (?) port and making copies from the hard disks ? One computer has VISTA and the older one has XP.
dune Posted 6 August, 2010 Posted 6 August, 2010 I never knew how to put a password on my computer then one day I accidentally hit the button that did it. 1. Click on the blue circle with the red, green, blue and yellow flag in it which is located on the bottom left of your screen. This bring up a box with loads of stuff on it. 2. At the top of the box there is a picture of an orange daisy. Click it. 3. It's all self explanatory from there. Basically set up a password and then this password has to be entered before the computer goes into computer mode.
trousers Posted 6 August, 2010 Posted 6 August, 2010 Step 1: unplug computer from wall Step 2: lock computer away in the loft (alongside scanner) Never say I'm unhelpful...
Saint in Paradise Posted 6 August, 2010 Author Posted 6 August, 2010 Thanks for that, I think even I can manage now. All I have to do is think up a strong password.
saint_stevo Posted 6 August, 2010 Posted 6 August, 2010 Password protect your account (make sure it is Administrator rights), create a guest account (if you want to be nice.......) and give it 'User' rights. They will not be able to see any of the stuff in your personal folders. If you have stuff on the C: drive you can go into security and alter the permissions so just you can access the info
NorthamSteve Posted 6 August, 2010 Posted 6 August, 2010 buy a Tiger and quickly train it to attack anyone that comes near your computer. That should keep your porn safe from prying eyes.
