I am the first to admit to being very dim with computers so please be kind to me :D

We are having people stay and look after our house and "just in case" I want to prevent any

access by them to my computers, to protect them as well as me.

Please would someone using an idiot proof guide tell me how to do this, will it also stop

anyone plugging into a USB (?) port and making copies from the hard disks ?

One computer has VISTA and the older one has XP.

I never knew how to put a password on my computer then one day I accidentally hit the button that did it.

1. Click on the blue circle with the red, green, blue and yellow flag in it which is located on the bottom left of your screen. This bring up a box with loads of stuff on it.

2. At the top of the box there is a picture of an orange daisy. Click it.

3. It's all self explanatory from there. Basically set up a password and then this password has to be entered before the computer goes into computer mode.

Password protect your account (make sure it is Administrator rights), create a guest account (if you want to be nice.......) and give it 'User' rights.

They will not be able to see any of the stuff in your personal folders.

If you have stuff on the C: drive you can go into security and alter the permissions so just you can access the info
