How can you compare Carter and Antonio - its not particularly a case of one or the other?

Because its not a case of comparing them, but contrasting the need for central MF against wide MF. Pardew might have gone for competition/cover for Hammond and Morgan if the player offered a real prospect of strengthing the side. It looks like Carter didn't reach that level and since Pardew had already said wide MF was a priority a bid for two wide players is now more likely.

Logically this is a very probable development. Having looked at Carter in case he was a better option and not having gone on to make an offer, it makes sense to go in for Antonio. He's said to have had a good pre-season, Reading have other wingers as first choices, and he could slip back into the Saints team with players he already knows. For Antono, a 2 or 3 year contract here must be more attractive than his 12 months extention to stay on the fringe at Reading. If the bid is £500k that suggests NC will wave the chequebook if Pardew convinces him the player is right.

Logically it isn't. they are totally diferent players. Carter is a CM Antinio is a winger.

Hmmmmm +1

Hmmm + 2

Meanwhile

Lot of you guys have ignored Dickson for LM. He looked very composed and solid in that position in the friendly against Reading

Antonio is good cover up front as well BUT IMHO we still need a youngster (possibly a loanee) to give Wotton a fight as cover in CM and I still worry about the CF cover for RL. Barnard is a different type of forward and we'd have to change our style IF we lost Rickie for any length of time, again, possibly a PL youngster needing a few games a season on loan when the window opens in September (Our loans of Waigo & Antonio last season were quality for us - but not really Mellis).

Hope this one does come true and the OS isn't just a mistake

Exactly, he looked very, very good there. Oh no, we need to sign two no wide players and ignore the centre of midfield. Classic TSF, a lot sont care who we sign, as long as it is someone.

the Antonio move reminds me very much of the Kenny Jones situation. He was nowhere near a Saints first team shirt and was loaned out to Sheff Wed where he was a revelation. They attempted to sign him during and after the loan, but we had him under contract and decided to keep him as we could see the potential. Sheff Wed never got hold of Kenny and I'm wondering if the same will happen here. Hope not, as I loved watching him last season (Tranmere game apart) and it would be a major fillip if we could get him back IMO.

Also works for Papa, Wayne Thomas and Chris Perry. Really hope the Antonio deal is on but my joy is tempered somewhat by the fact that these players are also apparently still on the roster.

Having said that, only Papa and Antonio have a space for season 2010/11 - hmmmmm....

Wouldnt we be better off going for a player like scott sinclair instead of Antonio, I think he really is an average player who would not do to much in the leagues above where as Sinclair would be a class champ player, we need to be aiming higher with our signings now like last season when we signed the likes of Jaidi, Lambert and Fonte

Except for the fact that we all knew we were after Dickson for months.

And we we really happy when we signed him, and yet we have a thread saying we need LM signings and cover. Ho hum.

So has someone on the OS had a senior moment or was something supposed to be announced yesterday? Odd that it shows both Papa & Antonio with 2010/11 season, somebody must have updated that information for a reason. NC won't be happy and I guess it means you lot will be on here late tonight waiting for the 11:30pm announcement instead of being in the pub
