Hatch Posted 5 August, 2010 Share Posted 5 August, 2010 Current European team based on qualifying system so far, prior to WGC this weekend, where all the top players are playing 4 from top World points list West.wood McIlroy McDowell Donald next best 5 from Euro points list Poulter Fisher Kaymer F Molinari Jimenez Plus 3 captains picks from those not yet qualified - Rose Garcia Harrington Casey Ross Fisher A Quiroz R McGowan H Stenson just to name a few. To me, I reckon Garcia will miss out. ( as it stands today) and Monty will pick Rose, Casey and Harrington Anyway, the US team looks weak with about 5 rookies in it, so whoever Monty picks the team should be too strong. Saint Keith Posted 5 August, 2010 Share Posted 5 August, 2010 no way you can pick Garcia. he cant putt, and its now starting toaffect the rest of his game i reckon if he had to name his picks now it would be Rose, Harrington, and Casey ofcourse, if anyone has a big 2 weeks over in US that could all change
saintchristine Posted 6 August, 2010 Share Posted 6 August, 2010 Barring something extraordinary hard to look past Rose, Casey and Harrington which would I think give the top 12 in the World points list as it now stands. Garcia is sadly so out of form it would be mad to pick him.
saint_stevo Posted 6 August, 2010 Share Posted 6 August, 2010 Garcia hit it as well as anyone at the open, but putted like an elephant in oven gloves. Time for the broom-handle....... Agree with Rose, Harrington and Casey
krissyboy31 Posted 6 August, 2010 Share Posted 6 August, 2010 I think Stenson ahead of Harrington on the last year's form.
saint_stevo Posted 6 August, 2010 Share Posted 6 August, 2010 I think Stenson ahead of Harrington on the last year's form. Harrington probably had one of his best seasons to date. Just not won as much but in terms of top 10/5's he has been excellent
Hatch Posted 8 August, 2010 Author Share Posted 8 August, 2010 Talk in the papers today that Langer may get a call. I tell you what, thats not a bad shout. Playing really well at the moment, tons of experience.
dubai_phil Posted 8 August, 2010 Share Posted 8 August, 2010 Talk in the papers today that Langer may get a call. I tell you what, thats not a bad shout. Playing really well at the moment, tons of experience. Although it may depend on Rose doing well in the PGA or Bridgestone and getting an automatic slot. Can't see him leaving one of Rose Harrington or Casey out. The bad news of course is that it looks likely that Tiger won't get in the Yanks so that will make them stronger in this format of the game
saint_stevo Posted 8 August, 2010 Share Posted 8 August, 2010 Tiger would surely get a pick
Wade Garrett Posted 8 August, 2010 Share Posted 8 August, 2010 Harrington has finished well at Akron. I think, because it's a WGC event it gives him Euro points. He may not need a captains pick. Difficult task for Monty, but Garcia wouldn't be high on my list for a wildcard.

Difficult task for Monty, but Garcia wouldn't be high on my list for a wildcard. Harrington is not far behind JImenez in the euro points now. If he gets a decent place at this weeks USPGA he could well move into auto selection. Another thing to take into consideration now is W******ds injury. he may not be fit enough to play. So that frees up another place.

dubai_phil Posted 16 August, 2010 Share Posted 16 August, 2010 Still think Montie has to have Casey in the team and the idea of having Langer in there (which I like - the oldies have shown they still have something to offer) leaves one slot spare Rose or Donald or Wilson or Harrington. Alvaro Quiros, Rhys Davies (one of the best putters on the cicuit) Robert Karlsson coming back into form... Hmmm Heck Darren Clarke has remembered how to putt and is getting it back together. What a fighter for the cause he has been and if he's getting it together... No wonder Monty's so screwed up (oops) The American team will have a lot of exciting kids or Rookies in there - I like Watson and think Dustin Johnston will take a lot away from the sand of last night, BUT pressue needs experience
dubai_phil Posted 29 August, 2010 Share Posted 29 August, 2010 Harrington, Donald & Edoardo Molinari Have to agree with Molinari he was magnificent this afternoon when he had to win. He's won twice this season and paired with his brother will be a force to reckon with Donald - agree great comeback season and good performance in Spain & at Celtic Manor Not sure I would have gone with Harrington though. Yes he won 3 majors but hasn't sparked since then. Casey is the gutsy fighter and Rose has the form at the moment. Anyway will be fantastic to watch
Hatch Posted 30 August, 2010 Author Share Posted 30 August, 2010 a bit confused on how the world number 9 , Casey, doesn't get in the squad as part of the world points list auto choices.
Saint Keith Posted 31 August, 2010 Share Posted 31 August, 2010 a bit confused on how the world number 9 , Casey, doesn't get in the squad as part of the world points list auto choices. he was about 5th or 6th on that list, westy, kaymer, mcdowell were above him due to their wins or finishes in the majors, which have higher points values. he was also only one spot out on the euro points list. bottom line is, if he had bothered to come over for either the czech open or gleneagles and made the cut, he would have secured his place by right

Seems he will be ready, but will he be rusty? In other news, The marshalls in Dubai are very excited by the news that Michelle Wie is coming down to the Ladies Masters in December, now (thanks to Tiger) that we know what touring Golf Superstars really want we are very motivated and up for this event....
