Lallana's Contract Renewal?

Am I right in thinking Lallana's contract is up for renewal this time next year?

 

If so, and obviously without revealing any details or contacts, does anyone know if any preliminary contract renewal talks have taken place yet or whether perhaps Adam's preference will be to sit it out to (a) see where Saints finish and (b) see what 'better' offers might come in given he'll be a free agent?

He's already gone apparently. His girlfriend threw him out and put their house up for sale. She's having a garage sale tomorrow and I'm going to be there early to get Adams old subbuteo pitch, which his dad glued to a big board for him.

Think it's the end of this season his contract finishes. He signed a 3 yr deal in 2008 I think. We need him to sign a new one although he's probably tempted to see where we end up this season. It would be a disaster if we ended up losing him for nothing though !

I think Adam would be mad not to wait until the end of the season and see if we get promotion. Obviously from a club and fan perspective he should sign a new deal now but from his point of view after 2 seasons in League 1 he'll be ready for a higher (not necessarily Premier League) level.

Would be good if he signed a new deal though, because even if we don't get promoted, teams above us will still want him, so we'll get some money for him.

To be honest, I don't think Adam would be happy to see out his contract and leave us on a free, mainly down to the fact that he has a strong affiliation with the club and the area.

 

If he does decide that he wants to leave in the not too distant future, then I wouldn't be surprised if he signed a new deal in with assurances that he could talk to other interested parties come the end of the season.

He wouldn't leave on a free. He's under 24 and has been developed through the youth system; therefore in exactly the same manner as we've experienced with Dickson we will be due a development fee from any new club, which will either be pre-agreed between us and the new club or will go to tribunal.

Good point, I forgot about that. It'd be interesting to see how much we'd get should it ever go to a tribunal . . .

 

Still, hopefully we'll never find out as I'd love to see Lallana commit his long-term future to the club.

I think the tribunal figure was quite fair actually. Brentford were reportedly hoping for £300K from the deal, being as they will more than likely make £250K from it they won't be too disappointed. It was typical tribunal negotiations; we offered £100K, they demanded £500K, the actual figure was somewhere in between.

if we don't get promoted I couldn't begrudge Adam leaving on a free (tribunal fee). He can't languish in the third tier for ever. If we do go up I'd hope he'd sign for another year though. Another season in the Championship would be a perfect for his development

Ha ha,it is a shame, that people like Weston feel they no longer want to post info on here but i can understand why.Weston is very friendly with Adam's family and Father so obviously a lot of rumours could be confirmed or dispelled, before getting out of hand, but hey ho, you have my number Ron.

If we don't go up this season, touch wood, then the reality is the bigger players will up and leave. Fonte, Lambert, Lallana, Punch and Morgan will all want to be in the higher leagues this time next season, and we'll have to start afresh. You know it, I know it, everyone knows it - promotion this season is imperative. The players will know that - they'll want to get promoted with us rather than join someone else, so I'm keeping my fingers crossed.

 

As for Lallana, I really hope the management don't sell Lallana before the deadline, or in January, just to get some money for him. He's so influential, losing him at any point this season would be a major loss. Look at Jermaine Beckford at Leeds - they knew his contract was out at the end of the season but they promised they'd keep him with the knowledge that at the end of the season, if they got promoted, they could convince him to sign a new contract. He didn't. I wonder if this will prey on the management's minds with regard to Lallana, although, as has been said, we would get a tribunal fee for him anyway.

 

I still trust in AP, but he really must be sleeping uncomfortably in his bed at night!
