BadgerBadger Posted 3 August, 2010 Posted 3 August, 2010 (edited) Let us be clear about the bigger picture: We're being dragged from the depths of despair and meltdown into a viable stand alone business, let's not kid ourselves, it's going to be a journey that will put a few noses out of joint as we move from a cuddly exterior hiding a wealth of unknowns into an existense where these unknowns are a little more obvious. It is an unfortunate inevitability that we must accept if we wish to survive long term and be successfull. You're probably thinking 'success at the expense of many things we hold dear' but the transition may well be a little uncomfortable for a while but the I fully expect the overall outcome to be a positive rather than a negative and all these negatives may well be put in perspective in the fullness of time and lessons learnt on both sides. The whole industry is in a mess and I feel a trailblaze is forthcoming, it won't be without it's pitfulls and threads of a 1000 pages but it's well overdue and I believe we're the right side of the fence especially considering our friends down the road! The very fact that lately more seems to be debated about every single avenue and nuance of the club since the takeover lends itself to the fact we're preparing the club for the future rather than hanging onto the coattails of the past. Saint Posted 3 August, 2010 Posted 3 August, 2010 The very fact that lately more seems to be debated about every single avenue and nuance of the club since the takeover lends itself to the fact we're preparing the club for the future rather than hanging onto the coattails of the past. This is the main part that needs to be remembered IMO.
CB Fry Posted 4 August, 2010 Posted 4 August, 2010 What a load of pompous twaddle. Any thread called 'a little perspective' usually is. You're making out NC is some infant businessman making his way in the world. He aint. In the meantime fans have the right to complain about things. They've all been around longer, and will be around for a hell of a lot longer, than the current management. Have that little perspective.
ericofarabia Posted 4 August, 2010 Posted 4 August, 2010 Makes you wonder how we survived back in the days before the inernet and mobile phones etc. Thank god for The Echo and taxi drivers, barbers and random blokes down the pub to keep us up to date with everything we needed to know about the club

Of course fans have the right complain about things but those 'things' should be real tangible 'things' i.e. the booking fee. The problem at the moment seems to be that someone posts some ridiculous unfounded rumour based on opinion and it takes on a life of its own as people add further fuel to the fire. This can result in an unecessary negative perspective which takes the shine off the progress we've made.

Furthermore, I didn't arrive at the conclusion that he was making out that NC was some infant businesmman. And he didn't say that fans do not have the right to complain about anything and his acceptance that there might be threads of 1000 posts suggests to me that he acknowledges that there will be some dissent along the way. In your case, it isn't a need for perspective; it's the need for the right perspective.

Good Post. This or no club at all, no contest!

Are you trying to be controversial, because if you are you have failed and have ended up looking like an idiot who has no understanding of how true fans feel.

Debate keeps things interesting IMO, whether you agree with the point or not. I HAVE to look on here every day, even if very little is happening, I'd feel lost without SWF and the few crazy posts we see on it.

I HAVE to look on here every day, even if very little is happening, I'd feel lost without SWF and the few crazy posts we see on it. I lived up north before the days of internet hysteria. What you did was talk to your mates and family back home, watch MOTD, watch them away when you could, at home when you could and not panic and over analyse every tiny little detail of every team selection, player or manager interview, signing or non signing etc. There was club call though, which i got a verbal warning for ringing 8 times in one day on the company phones when we signed Kevin Davies.
sambosa75 Posted 4 August, 2010 Posted 4 August, 2010 Good post in my opinion. Fans who once had a voice as their non-attendance would harm the club are no longer given the same voice they once were. I've not got a problem with this. I trust Cortese. He's making decisions which are unpopular with a few fans but all of it is done towards making Southampton a bigger and better club. If he puts a few noses out of joint on the way, that's par for the course. This club has pandered to fan power too many times in the past to the clubs detriment for Cortese to allow it to set a precedent now.
Danbert Posted 4 August, 2010 Posted 4 August, 2010 For me the perspective is this: Last season Blackpool's turnover of just £7m was the second lowest in the Championship after S****horpe United. The Seasiders' wage bill amounted to an extremely modest – by football standards – £4.8m. Blackpool have yet to spend more than £500,000 on a player and Holloway functions with a full-time support staff of just four. That was increased from three this summer, when the club finally appointed a specialist fitness coach. Given all the money we're splashing around it's about bloody time we got promoted!

It's a valid point but you get clubs that fluke a promotion via the play-offs all the time. Fair play to Holloway, I like the bloke and think he's always good value in interviews and actually not a much managerially speaking. However, Blackpool's record last season was; won 19, drawn 13, lost 14, whereas ours was; won 22, drawn 14, lost 9. Having come out of administration where we were raped of all our best talent for a pittance and had to rebuild more or less from scratch, we were always going to spend money because we have it. That said, even now I would honestly rather have our squad than Blackpool's. With the exception of Charlie Adam I really couldnt say another of their players would get in our team. I respect Holloway's attitude that he is not going to bring in any big time charlies and that the players that got him promoted deserve a crack at the Premier League but one would assume they are about to have a very demoralising season. Call me old fashioned but I'd rather build a little more slowly and have a backbone of a side to compete in the Premier League without having to make wholesale changes simply just to survive. With young players like Morgan, Lallana and Puncheon they all have the potential, time on their side and ability to mature in to players who can grow in tandem with the clubs aspirations.

You should know about the arrogance of CBFRY. He thinks he knows it all, always has done.
