Hey, i'm pretty upbeat...yet have some real reservations after our underwhelming pre-season??? Thoughts....

It's game of football, nowt else.

 

We will either win, lose or draw.

 

But that's not good enough. We need to know NOW which one it'll be. And once we know we need to find out the reason why we didn't play as well as we should have, so we know who to boo and chant against when Saturday comes.

I'm excited but not as optimistic as I'd like to be.

 

Feel the same. Just got a niggling issue at the back of my mind as to whether Pards is playing mind games by saying Lambert and all are "touch and go" or they seriously are injured and therefore am worried for the weekend and possibly the Bournemouth cup game which is one I don't want us to lose!

I have a feeling it will be a draw, there will be mass doom and gloom on here but we will start to turn it on after that, I think we all have to remember whatever happens saturday its just one game and there is along way to go!

If you care that little, why are you part of a forum and posted 4136 times ?!

 

I'll be there with my nipper as I am every week. I'll scream and shout and feel happy/cheesed off/narked at the final whistle and moan for a day but life goes on and by Sunday I'll be looking forward to the next match.

 

Some people need to get a serious sense of perspective regarding where football ranks in their lives.

In terms of Lambert I have a feeling he's absolutely fine and Pards perhaps used this 'injury' as an excuse to try Barnard and Connolly out upfront together and give Rickie a rest. Also a bit of mind games for Plymouth ahead of Saturday.

Wellll considering I can't remember the last time we won on the opening day, and our track record on SKY, I should be pessimistic. But I'm not, I'm optimistic, and I can't ****ing wait.

 

Gordon Bennett, when are we going to put that myth to bed. Our record on Sky is no different to our record without TV.

Plymouth know all about Third Divsion football and will be keen to start with a bang. Just like last season we are ill-prepared with players arriving too late to really gel with their team mates so expect over-enthusiasm to impress on their part, far too many loose passes as a result and not much cohesion in attack. Morgan will get booked in frustration as he contemplates another year of palying with averagely competent midfielders around him. We'll be vulnerable to set pieces again at the back especially from corners. We are so hyped up about our own abilities that we may not have prepared properly for Plymouth; if they come out fast at us we could be 2-0 down at halftime. This is likely to be our annual wake-up call in fact; if we draw 3-3 it would not surprise me but more likely we'll lose 2-1. Come Monday the Pardew out campaign could be in full swing on here

The opening statement sums up the clueless nature of your posts. Just over-reacting certain points to exaggerate your opinion.

 

Dickson agreed to join in May/June, Butterflied and Richardson joined during the first week or so of pre-season.

I know no figures, I guess it's just one of those myths that I've heard so often it has come across true.

Kind of feel the same too, i'm actually a bit apprehensive for the entire season. I really want us to do well and believe we have the tools to do so, but then so did leeds the past 3 seasons and they never looked convincing. They only just made it this year.

 

I just can't wait for the opening few weeks to be done with so we can get a sense of the potential season. It's important to have a good start, but i don't think you can read too much until after 6 or so games - the table is a bit of a mish mash before then.

Yeah, I was hoping to be 100% confident going into the season : A couple of months ago I had this great vision in my minds-eye of a full & proper pre-season (as opposed to last year) and a super-fit squad, with our 5-6 signings all bedded in. But we kind of go into it with 4 key players doubtful, and no great cover in for Morgan/Punch/Lallana.

 

Still - I think we've got enough to see off the Pilgrims though.

I'm weary with effort trying to find out if the game is going to be shown here :?

 

Since the very professionally run ShowTime stopped showing our mickey mouse league games and Al Jazeera took over it has been impossible to find out ant scheduling at all. At the moment the tv guide shows a 'Live' broadcast of a game that was played last week :scared: Could go down to the pub and make a few bets on the result i suppose!!

 

The combination of Sky, opening game hoodoo, against one of the stronger teams with Reidy at the helm, and little n the way of pre season gelling in formations, line ups and tactics means I'd actually be releived at getting a draw to be honest. After that then we will be flying!!

I am nervous about saturday mainly because saints often have this habit of not living up to expectations.

 

Most pundits are classing us as favourites, that makes me nervous.

 

I was hoping that a side was going to be put together that would undoubtably look all dominating with some exciting new signings. The signings we have made have been ok but not wet myself ok, and with the loss of Papa and Antonio we have lost some buzz and speed, perhaps this will be rectified shortly, but overall I am a little more nervous and cautious than I expected to be at the start of this season.

When Reading went on their mental unbeaten run in The Championship a few years ago they lost their opening home game of the season 3-1 to.....Plymouth Argyle - so it might pay a few of the wrist cutters to remember that.

You are always quite upbeat and less cynical than most, with a level head. if you are a litte bit afeared for the coming game, what chance the rest of us.

 

I bet i'll find Alpine full of confidence.

 

I think we'll be fine. Unlike most seasons we already have a team in place and raring to go.

The referee for Saturday's game is the same one that sent Morgan of at Stadium MK in the JPT semi first leg. :rolleyes:
