stu0x Posted 2 August, 2010 Posted 2 August, 2010 last home game of 09-10 NC told pre-match pitch announcer on no account praise AP Absolute nonsense. Whatever anyone thinks of Cortese, I think everyone has to admit he is fiercely business-focused and ruthless. If he was going to bin Pardew, he would have done it. He's not the type to dither on pulling the trigger. So what possible reason would he have to give such a clear sign to the *pitch announcer*, of all people, and then not do so. It gains him nothing and potentially costs him a lot.

Wes Tender Posted 2 August, 2010 Posted 2 August, 2010 I'll be glad when the football starts again. This Summer has been bizarre! We are in the best shape we have been in for years, have the best manager in the League (a PL level manager in L1 FFS), a squad that EVERY manager in the league would swap their for in a heartbeat, for the first time in recent times have NOT had to sell our best player(s) during the off-season and have no financial worries at all. However, there is just the same amount of in-fighting, gloom and despondancy as when we were on the verges of going out of existance. I guess it's just a behaviour pattern some fans have been conditioned to for so long it now comes as second nature. Also, I guess fans who are interested in the football side of supporting the club tend to post less over the Summer as there aren't any actual games but those 'Social' Fans who have little interest in football but like the getting drunk with their mates side to supporting the club tend to post about topics that are far more important to them than football, like 'communication'. This is exactly where I am with this closed season with my opinion, O-B. Perhaps there are too many on here with too much time on their hands because of school/college/uni holidays and maybe these are the ones that lack respect for the opinions of others and the inability to be civil towards them. Who knows? As you say, in previous breaks between seasons recently, we have had to discuss the loss of the manager or star players, even changes of ownership or whether we would even exist. This has been the most settled period between seasons that I can ever remember and also the most optimistic recently in terms of hope and expectation for the coming season. It has been boring in its lack of activity generally, thank God. Perhaps the Devil makes work for idle hands.

If you don't want to listen to it or think it is total rubbish then ignore it and allow others who do believe it to take on board what is said.

That NC told the pitch announcer not to heap any praise on him I believe is b o l l o xs.

That way you don't have to continually repeat it on every thread. Deal? Hang on a second. I'm not one to condone personal abuse of posters or any of that nonsense. So just because there's been a bit of a (in my opinion entirely justified) backlash against some of the muck-throwing on this thread, you can't just use that an as automatic get-out against any legitimate criticism. As far as I can tell, the assertation about the pitch announcer simply makes no sense. Cortese doesn't muck about. If he wants to fire Pardew, he fires him. He doesn't play stupid games with the pitch announcer. Likewise, he knows full well that the announcer is hardly going to keep his counsel. This is an internationally experienced lawyer and businessman. So to just say "it happened" doesn't hold water. Either a) it didn't happen, b) it happened and we are wrong about Cortese, he is apparently some kind of business retard, or c)... (this is the option you fill in to support the assertation) There we are, no abuse whatsoever. Are we able to have an adult discussion?

He would have found it very difficult to sack Pardew after all of the support that he got at the end of the season. It obvioulsy got his back up as he had a pop at a few Saints Treasures. Time will tell.....

Thatchamsaint Posted 2 August, 2010 Posted 2 August, 2010 Ref Parking Charges - Just to confirm I saw it myself at the ground on Saturday, you get the first 30 minutes parking on Monday to Friday for free and then pay charges after that. With those charges not applicable on Saturday home matches or after 4.30 p.m on nights of midweek home matches.
LGTL Posted 2 August, 2010 Posted 2 August, 2010 (edited) I've always maintained that if i'm ever ITK, i'd reveal my source or keep my mouth shut. If the information is such that you can't reveal your souce (FF, Hypo), then you shouldn't be telling us anyway, as it's more than likely your source doesn't want you telling an internet forum. If this isn't the case, why not just tell us who they are? That's not saying I don't neccessarily believe you. Edited 2 August, 2010 by LGTL

I can't prove that to anyone on here but I can pass on in good faith something which I know to be true because it came from an impeccable source. Clifford Nelson Posted 2 August, 2010 Posted 2 August, 2010 Agree with the sentiment but not re: Alpine. QUOTE] I didn't think that he was subtle, and he contributes to the general malaise, so I don't think that I made my point very well. It was the wall of vitriol that concerned me, and not an attempt to paint Alps out as being hard done by.
hypochondriac Posted 2 August, 2010 Posted 2 August, 2010 Either you want no rumours whatsoever or you want info which can be passed on but without breaking confidences. I know what I prefer and I suggest if people just want the former that they leave "rumour" threads well alone.
Clifford Nelson Posted 2 August, 2010 Posted 2 August, 2010 Interestingly Bert, Ron, Duncan, Andy and Frank have all come on today and said he same thing. I noticed, Dave, it felt refreshing as I dipped in at lunchtime. However, I wonder if there is hope to clean up the forum or if we're all doomed. I think that my patience is thinner than the yaboo boys.

Imagine how little there would have been to talk about over the past couple of months if no rumour or speculation was put forward on this forum! The lack of meaningful information that has come from the club over the summer would have left us with very little of real interest to discuss! Edited 2 August, 2010 by Spudders poor spelling
S-Clarke Posted 2 August, 2010 Posted 2 August, 2010 A month ago I heard from an ex player with good connections that Marcus was looking to sell. Just to bump this one back, this is one thing i'm not so sure about Duncan. Nicola and Markus want the best for this football club, i have no reason to doubt that at all. They have invested money and time in planning the redevelopment here. All i've ever questioned is the way Nicola, in particular, has gone about certain aspects of the restructuring process. I think this image on his company home page sum's the guy up passionate and wanting to show off his new purchase. Doesn't really strike me as someone that's looking to sell off asap. (look at his tie). That image is new as well, only came on there within the last 4/5 months.
alpine_saint Posted 2 August, 2010 Posted 2 August, 2010 Agree with the sentiment but not re: Alpine. It's just relentless posting of the same point over and over and you can't debate with him because he won't listen. He attacks a point you never made and then tries to make out how 'right' he was. Debate is great, but when people are desperate to make themselves look like they were right above anything else, it becomes pointless. He states the obvious, such as we need a few more players, then takes any development as evidence of being right, when no-one disagreed in the first place. What they don't like is his sheer delight in the negative, his refusal to listen to reason and understand just why his points are lost in this grumpy pantomine whinger image he's created for himself. All too often he attacks others for childish remarks, or making silly exagerrations, then he does exactly the same. Maybe he was more bearable when he argument was something I believed in, ie. Burley being a hinderence, but the needing more players situation isn't a debate, it's like saying we need to win more games or score more goals. But it's not even the silly non-point that's annoying, it's his endless desire to say 'I told you so', which is the most childish thing of all. I just have a hell of a lot more respect for the posters who'd rather be wrong and see saints do well. Because we're all wrong sometimes, but I like to think ultimately we want the same result. Sorry Adrian, but this is full of half-truths. There are people on here who have said things like "If we dont get anyone else in, I wont be disappointed" so you are mis-representing the truth when you say everyone agrees and it is obvious for everyone to see. I would rather be wrong and see Saints do well; how dare you suggest otherwise ? It is simply the case however that my head overrules my heart and I do not see it. And considering the huge amount of abuse, real personal abuse I receive for expressing my opinion, I think it is perfectly understandable if I sometimes (and it is only sometimes) point out the fact when I was right. And I have elsewhere tried to explain that the volume of my posting is partially due to the fact that I receive so many responses to me expressing my opinion, some good ones amongst all the angst and bile, I feel the need to respond to them.
