Vodafone serious problem HELP

This morning I had a delivery from Vodafone of a "new" HTC wildfire for my 14 year old son.

Opened the sealed box up and did what you normally do on new phones, ie swap sims and then charge it.

After a short time my son started playing with it.

Dad yes- what there are peoples contact details on here , Just a few sample ones they put in, I said.

"No real contacts with emails etc

Ok then

"Dad" yes "there are some text messages on here - what ??

Anyway he started to read them, second one he read, refers to having a spliff or a cup of tea

Turns out the phone is a return, and it smells of smoke plus is full of other people details, and there are messages about drugs.....

Went a bit mad and called into the local Police station, he was very surprised and said, not much they could do.

Called vodafone and then all hell let loose, now waiting a top Director to call me.

Thinking now of taking this even further, really angry .

You called the Police? OK then...

Why not? Could be good intelligence, although I'm a bit surprised at their lack of interest. I had a text sent to me by mistake about a drug deal a while ago, took my phone into the nick and they were extremely grateful.

I read it though as contacting the police because he had been sent a dodgy phone, not because of the texts. Maybe I am wrong.

talking of vodafone, I lost my Nokia 5800 on saturday night, anyone seen it?

Lucky you! Rubbish phone.

I'd have thought if you have a real go at the Vodafone director you may find you get a free phone and 18 month contract. Doubt you'll get much more tbh. Look at what happened when the government left loads of peoples private details on trains and stuff - nothing. Best of luck though!

Has to be HTC - Desire is a great phone

I know someone who got it and was really disappointed - got the iPhone 4 instead. He says in may respects he preferred his iphone 3gs which he replaced with the Desire. Depends on your uses really.

Blackberry is a good shout too. I wouldn't buy the iPhone 4 because of all the problems they've had with it. I'd also find it difficult to buy the 3gs because of it being an older model.

yep best on the market at the moment ,the 4g iphone is overated,it might be better when they sort out the iphone aerial problems.(why would you want a phone with a major problem wait till they sort it out in a revised version)

mind you had no problems with my nokia 5800..

mind you i,m not a show off i just want a phone which makes calls, hence i normally only change every 5 years .

Ok yes it came direct from Vodafone, had another call from them saying they had arranged a return for tomorrow, I said NO, not until I am happy with the outcome.

So let see what they can make of the situation.

Trading standards and maybe solicitor, still really angry about it all.

As to the phone, I have an iphone, the phone is for my son who also has an itouch, so he thought it would be a good diversion to use Android.

check out my avitar to see what I sell, as I wanted him to get an iphone 4.

Get them to send you out a new phone and return the other phone, then grow up. It's a mobile phone.

+1

Vodafone dispatch nearly 1,000,000 handsets a month, your always going to get some error rate.

Mum once had her dell PC picked up and taken for repair, when that came back it was someone else's PC with all their files intact.

I appreciate this is the Lounge, but does anyone else think the reaction is a little over the top? What are you so angry about?

Vodafone made a mistake and are rectyfying it. I'm pretty sure your son will get over reading a dodgy text, it's not as if they put some skag in the box with the phone.

Wow, it's when I read stuff like this that I can really appreciate being a laid back sort of guy. I would hate to be as highly strung as you. No offence meant of course.

I would say chill out, by all means see if you can get a free phone out of it, but don't let it make you angry, there's no point.

I think that this is shocking and you should take it as far as you possibly can. No wonder you are angry, I would be livid. Have you thought about writing to your local MP? Or even the papers? Yes, the papers would lap this up. Is your lad still upset? Try and get a photo of him upset while you can (or just get him to pretend to be upset if he is over it - which I doubt he is given the severity of it) as the papers love this kind of thing and are more likely to take up the story. You could also start a Facebook group as that is a great way to get the message out there. Post a link if you do this and we will all join up in support.

Ok Yes my lad is upset, wants his phone had it for about 30 mins. I willtakethe high ground on this, I am so laid back normally, but when a large company like

Vodafone start sending out handsets with personell details on and pass them on as NEW they are taking the ****** .

I am one of the last people to seek any compensation. but would like to have a good answer.

Sorry, what exactly do you expect to happen? They've clearly messed up massively and sent you a used phone by mistake. They will replace it with a new one and not charge you for the contract time whilst you have the used one I expect. They will probably also give you a month or so free as an apology or something.

Why the **** would you bother contacting a solcitor or trading standards? They haven't refused to give you a new phone have they?

It's a mistake. A bad one. But they will rectify it by replacing the phone. You haven't lost out have you, save for a few days?

I think your son needs to talk to Frank.
