hamster Posted 27 July, 2010 Share Posted 27 July, 2010 We have a new puppy in the house (pic below). He's a labrador dalmation cross and his parents were large so expecting him to follow suit. He needs a name. ??

bridge too far Posted 27 July, 2010 Share Posted 27 July, 2010 Oh he's soooooo cute Hammy! What a great cross - we used to have a Dalmatian and a Labrador. You've got the best of both in one cute puppy. Call him Spot?

I just defended you honour on another thread btw. Don't thank me, not right now anyway. ;-)
hamster Posted 27 July, 2010 Author Share Posted 27 July, 2010 Who was it on here that had a puppy they have sent to be trained as a gundog who we all helped to name? Wonder how the little fella's doing? btw, any suggestions to our recent addition must NOT refer to his colour. This is not my stipulation but someone else who worries about getting assaulted or arrested if shouting his name in public, please think on people, these are tense times what we live in. SuperMikey Posted 27 July, 2010 Share Posted 27 July, 2010 What a lovely puppy - bet he's going to be big though if he's half Dalmation! Always thought Rufus was a good name for a dog, alternatively you can go down the cliched route like Spot, Rover etc.
dune Posted 27 July, 2010 Share Posted 27 July, 2010 Make sure it's a two syllabled name. Runs off the tongue better when calling it back from a distance.

dune Posted 27 July, 2010 Share Posted 27 July, 2010 You could go for Ricky as in Lambert, but obviously not if your missus is a co(kney. Excuse the spelling - fookin swear filters.
hamster Posted 27 July, 2010 Author Share Posted 27 July, 2010 I personally fancy 'Turkish' but no-one else does. Gone through hundreds so far and none get the 100% vote which is required. Although I should add that in this house my opinion never counts for much so I'm assuming that 5 out of 6 will do if I am the objector. Something 'manly' I reckon, as has been pointed out, he is gonna be a big boy before long and we cannnot afford to scar him with a stupid name just cos he looks cute now. Won;t be long before the 'ahh he's done a poop' turn into 'f*** me, looks like we've had a horse in the garden'

Dalmatians are born without spots, they get them as they grow older so he may still have black spots (although unlikely given his colouring). How about Churchill (the largest river and province in Labrador) and Churchill was instrumental in the amalgamation of Dalmatia into Yugoslavia. Hey - you're one clever puppy, aren't you At what age do dalmatians get their spots then? I don't ever remember our dalmatian not having spots and we got her when she was a puppy (probably at about 12 weeks I guess).

hamster Posted 29 July, 2010 Author Share Posted 29 July, 2010 Thanks for the suggections, as predicted I had no say whatsoever in the decision, it was in fact made in my absence. Meet.....'Buddy'! What a stupid name for a dog and I shall not be clearing up after a dog with a stupid name like that, the others can do it them buddy selves. SNSUN Posted 29 July, 2010 Share Posted 29 July, 2010 Buddy. Fail. Mind you, my first dog was going to be called bertie, myself and my sister overruled our parents and called hid Max. I maintain to this day that our name was better. So perhaps in time you'll learn to love it! Incidentally they eventually got their way, they called one of their African Grey parrots Bertie.
