Jonnyboy Posted 27 July, 2010 Posted 27 July, 2010 Trialist i'd guess, club would have announced if he'd signed (they would have had to i think) Hopefully there's an option to take him on loan. agreed, from the sounds of it, id prefer him on loan
Thedelldays Posted 27 July, 2010 Posted 27 July, 2010 he might actually be pretty good...before you all write him off and everything
Pilchards Posted 27 July, 2010 Posted 27 July, 2010 We are short of squad midfielders so I'm sure if he does alright tonight then a bid of 350k will snap him up. Can't see him being the one that AP is really after as I feel the big one is yet to arrive.
VectisSaint Posted 27 July, 2010 Posted 27 July, 2010 Hope NC pulls this off. It would be a great Italian Job to Get Carter.
S-Clarke Posted 27 July, 2010 Posted 27 July, 2010 he might actually be pretty good...before you all write him off and everything don't think anyone is writing him off, just reserving judgment as he's had a few pretty rubbish years football-wise.
Thedelldays Posted 27 July, 2010 Posted 27 July, 2010 don't think anyone is writing him off, just reserving judgment as he's had a few pretty rubbish years football-wise. mad how it works out...look at the tyson thread and people are creaming themselves at the prospect...yet he has had (apparently) a poor season and some forest fans think he is pretty poor
Smirking_Saint Posted 27 July, 2010 Posted 27 July, 2010 He is on trial from a Champ club, he is never going to cost 1.2m, i hope. He used to be a decent player, i would ignore the Preston message board TBF and judge him on how he performs tonight, it seems (according to Wiki i know) that Milwall saw enough to try and get him in, and it seems he is on decent wages, perhaps the reason to 'offer him' to clubs ? If he is deemed good enough i am sure he will sign, at least on loan to check his pedigree.
Saints foreva Posted 27 July, 2010 Posted 27 July, 2010 We deserve administration again if we signed Carter for £1.2m.
saint lard Posted 27 July, 2010 Posted 27 July, 2010 We deserve administration again if we signed Carter for £1.2m. I would be amazed if that figure was correct.
Saint Garrett Posted 27 July, 2010 Author Posted 27 July, 2010 Slight drizzle here at the Underhill Stadium, Saints are kicking downhill in the first half . . . there is quite a slope here! #saintsfc
Saint Garrett Posted 27 July, 2010 Author Posted 27 July, 2010 I think he'd be a good signing, he's got prem experience, and still reasonably young.
SuperMikey Posted 27 July, 2010 Posted 27 July, 2010 Carters' an interesting option - wouldn't like to see us pay over the odds for him based on other fans views, but i'm willing to be proved wrong with, say, a first hat-trick from him ;)Ought to be a decent game either way.
SO16_Saint Posted 27 July, 2010 Posted 27 July, 2010 Signing a champs level midfielder as backup is pretty good IMO
Matthew Le God Posted 27 July, 2010 Posted 27 July, 2010 if he does that often, he'll do fine. He did this against Arsenal in the Premiership... He has actually played quite a few Premiership games in his time.
Thedelldays Posted 27 July, 2010 Posted 27 July, 2010 Signing a champs level midfielder as backup is pretty good IMO who says he would be back up..? was fonte..?
Saint Garrett Posted 27 July, 2010 Author Posted 27 July, 2010 Would he not play instead of Hammond in a more attacking role ?!
Smirking_Saint Posted 27 July, 2010 Posted 27 July, 2010 Unless we play 4-5-1 ?? Plus Pardew said in an interview a little while ago that Hammond was not garaunteed a starting place unless he proved to be more technically gifted, i think. May be wrong.
bridge too far Posted 27 July, 2010 Posted 27 July, 2010 Hope NC pulls this off. It would be a great Italian Job to Get Carter. I think this is quite funny
S-Clarke Posted 27 July, 2010 Posted 27 July, 2010 Some west brom views, gives a bit of a balanced view - ''I would think he would add some good experience for you. Hes a big lad with a decent range of passing. He scored one of the best goals ever to be scored up the Hawthorns (see link below). To be honest he wasn't the most impressive of young talents ive seen he didnt impress me here and he didn't impress me based on the coverage i caught of Preston last year. I think league one is his level to be honest hes got great potential to do well for you while your there mate.'' ''You will get a very mixed reaction to Carter on here. A bit like Marmite some love him, some hate him. I was one of those who rated Carter , a very decent player in the stripes and I think he will do very well in League 1. Thought he had some very good games for us, but then again some times he does go missing and had a quite a few average games'' ''Average championship player. Should do well for you. Decent work rate tidy passer and can get the odd spectacular goal.''
SO16_Saint Posted 27 July, 2010 Posted 27 July, 2010 who says he would be back up..? was fonte..? True, so if not back up he's better than what we have so what's the issue? Not with you, btw...
S-Clarke Posted 27 July, 2010 Posted 27 July, 2010 Unless we play 4-5-1 ?? Plus Pardew said in an interview a little while ago that Hammond was not garaunteed a starting place unless he proved to be more technically gifted, i think. May be wrong. It was something along those lines, i think he was saying that he needed to improve his touch or something.
Smirking_Saint Posted 27 July, 2010 Posted 27 July, 2010 It was something along those lines, i think he was saying that he needed to improve his touch or something. Yeah, thats pretty much as i remember. I do like Hammond, he has tremendous work rate, but technically he ain't all that. But i suppose thats what you get at this level, i'm just not used to it.
Give it to Ron Posted 27 July, 2010 Posted 27 July, 2010 Well if he can run from one end of the pitch to the other, pass a ball to a team mate, not give away sill free kicks around our area then he will be an improvement on Wotton. We will not get promoted if we are relying on the standard of players like Wotton.
SFC Forever Posted 27 July, 2010 Posted 27 July, 2010 There is a few of us can say that and hopefully someone like this Carter is big enough for places like Swindon, Tranmere etc
saint lard Posted 27 July, 2010 Posted 27 July, 2010 Another 'possible' signing straight out of left field, imo. I trust AP's judgement thus far with signings, this could be a very good move on our behalf. Time will tell.
supersonic Posted 27 July, 2010 Posted 27 July, 2010 Left footed iirc too. Perhaps in the surman molde? X
S-Clarke Posted 27 July, 2010 Posted 27 July, 2010 30 mins played, Saints looking bright and closing down well. Barnard has just had Saints best chance, curling an effort wide #saintsfc

hutch Posted 27 July, 2010 Posted 27 July, 2010 I'd forgotten about Trottman. They don't seem to rate him either. I thought he did OK for us, better than what we had at the time, but not a patch on Fonte. Maybe Carter's in the same boat, better than Wotton, but not as good as [..............]
itchen_dan Posted 27 July, 2010 Posted 27 July, 2010 Just a quick giggle - Olly Lancashire has just scored an own goal for Walsall against Villa!
Saint Garrett Posted 27 July, 2010 Author Posted 27 July, 2010 Just a quick giggle - Olly Lancashire has just scored an own goal for Walsall against Villa! Not been red carded yet though !!
Smirking_Saint Posted 27 July, 2010 Posted 27 July, 2010 Just a quick giggle - Olly Lancashire has just scored an own goal for Walsall against Villa! Well, he is turning out to be pretty prolific. Unfortunately not for the team he is playing for.
S-Clarke Posted 27 July, 2010 Posted 27 July, 2010 Good game then !! typical pre-season bore-fest by the sounds of it.
RedAndWhite91 Posted 27 July, 2010 Posted 27 July, 2010 From SaintsWeb twitter: 38 mins: Carter with best #saintsfc effort so far, curled just over from 25 yards.
Saint Garrett Posted 27 July, 2010 Author Posted 27 July, 2010 Half Time from "On-a-hill" Barnet 0-0 Saints #saintsfc
Nexstar Posted 27 July, 2010 Posted 27 July, 2010 Half time 0-0, been on top just about. Barnard and holder spooner have looked particularly bright. Carter came close with a long range effort. Crossing has been poor though.
liquidsnake Posted 27 July, 2010 Posted 27 July, 2010 Not a great game here, Holder-Spooner has been lively, whilst Dickson has looked a bit rusty. Barnard curled one over the bar but apart from that it's pretty much been Barnet putting on most of the pressure, and they've had a fair few corners (including one suspect punch from Kelvin, although he also pulled off a great tip over the bar from a header). Rain has now stopped, hopefully a better second half! Oh, and according to the PA the subs are: Harding, Bialkowski, Doble, Holmes, Mcnish, Tafazolli (sic), Reeves, Wotton, Hoskins, Robinson.
Ivan Katalinic's 'tache Posted 27 July, 2010 Posted 27 July, 2010 Half time 0-0, been on top just about. Barnard and holder spooner have looked particularly bright. Carter came close with a long range effort. Crossing has been poor though. Maybe we need some new wide players?
Ivan Katalinic's 'tache Posted 27 July, 2010 Posted 27 July, 2010 Who is Robinson? Theo Robinson from Huddersfield? Would be a nice surprise...
ChrisPY Posted 27 July, 2010 Posted 27 July, 2010 IMO Carter is better than Hammond but I think we need some consistency next to Morgan which I'm not sure if Carter would offer. Time will tell...
liquidsnake Posted 27 July, 2010 Posted 27 July, 2010 1-0 Saints, blocked shot came to Mills who slotted past the keeper. Bart, Harding, and Doble all came on at half-time, and Wotton has just come on for Hammond.
S-Clarke Posted 27 July, 2010 Posted 27 July, 2010 Who is Robinson? youth team player, andy robinson i think his name is
