patred44 Posted 24 July, 2010 Posted 24 July, 2010 (edited) today we should be able to use our new LE STRIPE kit for the first time... lets hope it's introduced with a big bang COME ON YOU STRIPE Edited 24 July, 2010 by patred44
docker-p Posted 24 July, 2010 Posted 24 July, 2010 The result: Marketeers 1, Tradition 0, The sooner this sorry episode in our history is over, and we get back to wearing what all the greats who played for Saints wore, the better. Until then, come on you whites!

Matthew Le God Posted 24 July, 2010 Posted 24 July, 2010 Cheep then, as well as nasty You are clearly in a minority, as most Saints fans in polls love it.
Matthew Le God Posted 24 July, 2010 Posted 24 July, 2010 In fact I doubt many teams have ever had such high % of fans in a number of surveys liking a kit.
Badger Posted 24 July, 2010 Posted 24 July, 2010 Don't know why, but I had assumed that the shirt would first be worn v Plymouth. The match v Reading is more likely to be used as a chance to show the away kit to the public.
John B Posted 24 July, 2010 Posted 24 July, 2010 You are clearly in a minority, as most Saints fans in polls love it. Well I dont like it either just looks like a tee shirt to me
Saint_clark Posted 24 July, 2010 Posted 24 July, 2010 Well I dont like it either just looks like a tee shirt to me So you'd prefer to have a sponsor on?
John B Posted 24 July, 2010 Posted 24 July, 2010 So you'd prefer to have a sponsor on? No just Red and White stripes please
docker-p Posted 24 July, 2010 Posted 24 July, 2010 You're on very dodgy ground if you think that the views of people who subscribe to this forum are an accurate representation of a cross section of Saints fans. In fact I doubt many teams have ever had such high % of fans in a number of surveys liking a kit.
Matthew Le God Posted 24 July, 2010 Posted 24 July, 2010 You're on very dodgy ground if you think that the views of people who subscribe to this forum are an accurate representation of a cross section of Saints fans. What about the poll on the Echo website?
docker-p Posted 24 July, 2010 Posted 24 July, 2010 (edited) What about the poll on the Echo website? The common denominator there is websites, which will skew any poll. Having said that I'm sure a poll conducted properly would still see a majority in favour of it. Although much smaller is my guess. That doesn't make it right. Edited 24 July, 2010 by docker-p

What about the huge numbers of shirts they have sold? Unless you survey every single person then every poll is skewed in some way or other. Even then you could pick holes in it as to how the respondants by taking a poll have been influenced. Edited 24 July, 2010 by Matthew Le God

Sidney Fudpucker the 3rd Posted 24 July, 2010 Posted 24 July, 2010 The kit's jinxed. Forget promotion this season. It won't happen until we're back in stripes.
niceandfriendly Posted 24 July, 2010 Posted 24 July, 2010 (edited) If there has been, what about them? Sorry buddy, but you're a little bonkers if you don't think the majority of Saints fans like the kit. All other Sotonians that I've spoken to all love the strip (for one year of course, not to lose the stripes forever), and none of them post on this forum or are regular t'interweb bores like us. I'm pretty sure other people will say the same. Edited 24 July, 2010 by niceandfriendly
jawillwill Posted 24 July, 2010 Posted 24 July, 2010 The kit's jinxed. Forget promotion this season. It won't happen until we're back in stripes. Exactly, we've always been frickin' amazing when we play in stripes. In fact, I don't think we've ever lost in them have we? We won't have any chance of winning the Champions League this season while we're in the sash though.

offix Posted 24 July, 2010 Posted 24 July, 2010 I must join that minority. I hate this abomination of a shirt
Badger Posted 24 July, 2010 Posted 24 July, 2010 The shirt is for one year, and given its historical context I can certainly live with it. We have had worse abominations, ie the red with white shoulders in the 1985 era, the Danish pyjamas, and the Pony tick.So the sash is fine with me for a season.
benjii Posted 25 July, 2010 Posted 25 July, 2010 The shirt is wonderful. Frankly, no one on here would have a clue about style if it raped them. You fatty Primark Slobodan Meshirtovic sandle-and-sock uber gimps.
Wes Tender Posted 25 July, 2010 Posted 25 July, 2010 All this stuff about the shirt has already been debated ad nauseum. Docker is not forced into buying one or wearing one and in the meantime he can join all of the Skate fans in having an avator that disrespects the official Saints shirt of the year. The most obvious way to gauge the popularity of the shirt is to look at the sales figures and those indicate that it is a rip roaring success. We not only have a pretty unique strip in British football in terms of its design, but also because we have no sponsor. I'll look forward to wearing mine at home matches. I've seen several out and about and they look great. I'll wear the new stripes kit next season when we're back in the Championship.

If you believe the OS sites PR then yes, it has been a marketing success, which is after all what it was about. As for tradition? By definition a failure.
SaintRichmond Posted 25 July, 2010 Posted 25 July, 2010 No just Red and White stripes please Exactly Saints (Home) colors are Red & White Stripes Not a gimmicky cheap insult just to satisfy Cortese Looks just like a Sunday morning Pub Teams kit
Phil the Saint Posted 25 July, 2010 Posted 25 July, 2010 Gob smacked by the amount of new shirts I have seen out and about must be selling very well.
docker-p Posted 25 July, 2010 Posted 25 July, 2010 Gob smacked by the amount of new shirts I have seen out and about must be selling very well. Yep, there's never a shortage of suckers.
Colinjb Posted 25 July, 2010 Posted 25 July, 2010 You can't please all the people all of the time and it's only a one off. I personally love it and the natives in Cov have thought it a fantastic idea. I would be opposed to a permanant change but like the novelty of the change for the anniversary. There are enough retro shirts available too to satisfy those after something a bit more timeless. This is surely a total non issue.

RAF Saint Posted 25 July, 2010 Posted 25 July, 2010 Exactly Saints (Home) colors are Red & White Stripes Not a gimmicky cheap insult just to satisfy Cortese Looks just like a Sunday morning Pub Teams kit Anything to moan and blame Cortese for! I for one am pleased that our chairman has decided to not have a sponsor for a season, in a season that we are respecting our tradition!! This shirt is more traditional than any other shirt we've had in recent times. Can anybosy actually say they enjoyed having Friends Provident or Flybe written across there shirt?? No i thought not....

No i thought not.... But we're not respecting our tradition, thats always been my point. Traditionally we wear red and white stripes. The red sash was our original kit (for one season i think, maybe two), NOT our traditional kit, which is Red and White stripes that everyone from Ron Davies to Terry Paine to Matt Le Tiss wore. The sash is simply a cheap marketing stunt, to rake in a few extra bob. It's nasty, it's white, and it's all about coining it in from a mugs. Edited 25 July, 2010 by docker-p

The vast majority love it! Selling a shirt with no sponsor has to be the weirdest marketing stunt to make money I have heard of..........
NickG Posted 25 July, 2010 Posted 25 July, 2010 is this red and white stripes? probably about our most famous kit.
docker-p Posted 25 July, 2010 Posted 25 July, 2010 is this red and white stripes? probably about our most famous kit. Do try harder.

Some people just need a daft and fundamentally pointless lone crusade to make them feel big. Just look at StueyBensonPhillips.

But wouldn't the sponsor free zone have been better on a Red and white striped shirt?

rocknrollman no2 Posted 25 July, 2010 Posted 25 July, 2010 Moderately inventive way of upping the ante on next seasons sponsorship. But wouldn't the sponsor free zone have been better on a Red and white striped shirt? Definately yes!!!!
Colinjb Posted 25 July, 2010 Posted 25 July, 2010 Why so? It would just be another red and white shirt, and there are only so many variations of that you can do. This shirt is a unique one off based on the most initial part of our history. I find the change extremely refreshing. I will welcome back the conventional strip next season, but right now, the change is good for me.
docker-p Posted 25 July, 2010 Posted 25 July, 2010 Why so? Not that i give a flying f***, just that one word answers on a forum like this don't enhance it.
Colinjb Posted 25 July, 2010 Posted 25 July, 2010 Not that i give a flying f***, just that one word answers on a forum like this don't enhance it. Do you think the people that like the sash are wanting to get rid of the stripes for good?
