Lost in the noise that this was Venables, with all his notoriety, is the fact that he was convicted of downloading child porn, not creating it. As bad as that is, the worse offence, surely, is that committed by those who actually staged and photographed the images in the first place.

What he did at 10 years old is indescribable, but I'm a firm advocate of 'blame the parents' and the life up to that point. He'd clearly already been entirely failed by everyone around him and his local authority, otherwise he wouldn not or could not have done what he did to poor JB. God knows what it's been like for him since. I'm not surprised he's ****ed up. I think that an aweful lot has to be put upon the parents and the authorities around him that did fail him, that is unquestionable.

 

Unfortunately i also think that some people are just destined to be evil, JV was one of those people. I cannot understand the people that advocate that the kids had no realisation of right and wrong as it was not instilled in them from the parents, that is just complete bullsh*t.

 

Every kid understands right and wrong no matter whether it is 'taught' or not, that is why you know a kid is up to something as before they commit something that is considered wrong they will always look around to see if any adults are watching and if they catch an adult watching will look at them for a few seconds as if to see what they are going to do or say.

 

What IS taught to most kids is the ability to act on the instinct of commiting to something that is wrong and to avoid doing it. Unfortunately you get two camps of these kind of kids, those that are able to get away with what they want, and those that will do it anyways, JV was always in the latter group and with all the money being needed to prop up the economy at the moment anyone who is convicted beyond all reasonable doubt of peadophilia, murder or rape and especially murder that was torturous should be put to death and forgotten about.

I don't believe people are born evil - don't believe in evil as such - although perhaps some are born with certain predispositions. I do entirely agree that most kids know what is right and what is wrong, (subjective anyway, let's be honest) but some certainly do not understand enough in depth the consequences of acts or what they mean. I know they set out to 'get some kid' or whatever but I'm not convinved they really knew what they were doing, what it meant. I have no intention of defending the acts - but I always advocate trying to understand rather than just kill, because if nothing else, that is more likely to prevent future barbarities more than a death sentence for 10 year old kids.
