paulwantsapint Posted 29 September, 2008 Posted 29 September, 2008 With all the praise going to the better players who has done the most but got the least recognition? This for the likes of Brett Ormerod, Iain Dowie, Paul Telfer, Neil Maddison
Tac-tics Posted 29 September, 2008 Posted 29 September, 2008 Niemi - with out a shred of doubt Killer
geordiesaint Posted 29 September, 2008 Posted 29 September, 2008 maddison, oakley and mickey evans in my lifetime. i will try and think of others
Arizona Posted 29 September, 2008 Posted 29 September, 2008 I'd have said Oakley. Many people ridiculed him on here after he left, saying he had only ever had about 10 good games for us etc. Then he went to Derby, captained them to promotion and looked one of their better players in the Prem. No coincidence that things began to go down hill after he got injured in 2003. Can't really call Niemi "unsung" when he won player of the year in 03/04.
Ivan Katalinic's 'tache Posted 29 September, 2008 Posted 29 September, 2008 Kevin Richardson was a calming influence when he first arrived and quietly got on with things whilst Palmer, Davies, Hirst, Le Tiss & Egil got the plaudits in Dave Jones' first season with us.
um pahars Posted 29 September, 2008 Posted 29 September, 2008 Players who i don't think got the recognition they deserved. Nick Holmes Graham Baker Malcolm Waldron Dave Armstrong Glen ****erill Kevin Moore Ken Monkou Paul Telfer
Tac-tics Posted 29 September, 2008 Posted 29 September, 2008 Carlton Palmer and Oakley when I was young.

Ivan Katalinic's 'tache Posted 29 September, 2008 Posted 29 September, 2008 Paul Williams helped steady our defence in Strach's first season, filling the void Dean Richards left, until being displaced by a certain Swedish centre half.
Andy_Porter Posted 29 September, 2008 Posted 29 September, 2008 Paul Williams is a good shout. I think it was his hoof against Spurs that set up Beattie for his goal when we beat Spurs on Hoddles return.
Viking Warrior Posted 29 September, 2008 Posted 29 September, 2008 Richard (Trigger ) Dryden and Richard Hall. Before them Hugh Fisher and my all time favorite Brian O'NEIL
Colinjb Posted 29 September, 2008 Posted 29 September, 2008 Ricardo Fuller in our first year in the Championship. Brett Ormerod for doing all the running to create space for Beattie to work his 'thing.'
SNSUN Posted 29 September, 2008 Posted 29 September, 2008 Ken Monkou is a good shout for me. All the times we just escaped relegation from the Premiership and we were so thankful to MLT, there was Kenny at the back putting in some solid displays and weighing in with a few goals, including the 5-4 vs Norwich winner. Chris Marsden was one of those players that we signed that nobody really expected anything from, and yet went on to be the biggest suprise for fans.
whizzpop Posted 29 September, 2008 Posted 29 September, 2008 for me :- Kevin Moore Neil Heaney Paul Allen (no not that one - the midfield maestro version) Tommy Wridrington and Mark Walters

lordswoodsaints Posted 29 September, 2008 Posted 29 September, 2008 got to be nick holmes for me,closely followed hugh fisher, david armstrong, tim flowers, paul telfer and many others
Atticus Finch of Maycomb Posted 29 September, 2008 Posted 29 September, 2008 surely, as soon as you name him, he becomes 'sung' and is therefore invalid.
Niemster Posted 29 September, 2008 Posted 29 September, 2008 Le Saux, bit of a desperate one i know but i thought he covered the loss of Bridge well and gave his all most games.
VectisSaint Posted 29 September, 2008 Posted 29 September, 2008 I would say Nick Holmes and Dave Peach would be 2 of the strongest contenders for unsung hero in my time supporting Saints.
saint_stevo Posted 29 September, 2008 Posted 29 September, 2008 Mickey Evans or Gordon Watson Both scored goals to keep us up towards the end of a season, Evans in particular
Bailey Posted 29 September, 2008 Posted 29 September, 2008 Paul Williams. Came in on a free if my memory is correct and did a top job at the back for us. Was a calming influence and very much and unsung hero.
revolution saint Posted 29 September, 2008 Posted 29 September, 2008 Well there are a few I could mention but off the top of my head what about Barry Horne? Good little grafter prepared to do the hard work while Le Tiss, Wallace, Shearer and even Case took the plaudits.
Micky Posted 29 September, 2008 Posted 29 September, 2008 The awesome Neil Jason Shipperley, absolute legend... or have I missed a space out somewhere there...!!!

rpb Posted 30 September, 2008 Posted 30 September, 2008 A mention of two of the older generation of players who did so much for us in the early 60s - Ken Wimshurst and Dave Burnside

beatlesaint Posted 30 September, 2008 Posted 30 September, 2008 Nick Holmes, Mike Pickering (promotion year) and Manny Andruzewski (apologies for the spelling ! )
the stain Posted 30 September, 2008 Posted 30 September, 2008 Le Goddard said: Chris Marsden FOOTY GENIUS Surely this one's about as sung as you can get, being a song and that.
70's Mike Posted 30 September, 2008 Posted 30 September, 2008 Winnersaint said: Tony Funnell Norman Dean Think Norman scored a hat trick at Fratton, should have a statue along with Channon who did the same but at The Dell
Isla Wight Posted 30 September, 2008 Posted 30 September, 2008 Patrick Colletter - tough as old boots
70's Mike Posted 30 September, 2008 Posted 30 September, 2008 Isla Wight said: Patrick Colletter - tough as old boots did he not hold Bridge back because he played
Isla Wight Posted 30 September, 2008 Posted 30 September, 2008 Quote did he not hold Bridge back because he played If he did it wasn't for long because he only played 26 games for us. Perhaps not so much an unsung hero - just a player I liked having in the team.
