surrey1saint Posted 22 July, 2010 Posted 22 July, 2010 Not sure if this has been posted yet,but it seems that we will be taking the 1st team to this game. Anyone going?
La BoIS Saint Posted 22 July, 2010 Posted 22 July, 2010 Sutton think we are taking first team not sure about anyone else. I'm sure there will be a few people going. Not sure where we are drinking, am trying to encourage the Hope or Sun in Carshalton but might end up in the clubhouse.
for_heaven's_Saint Posted 22 July, 2010 Posted 22 July, 2010 In Pardew's interview he says 'Sutton will be the first time we really play full strength with both barrels loaded' so I'd expect it to be a pretty strong team.
Cricketphilly Posted 22 July, 2010 Posted 22 July, 2010 Playing cricket for Sutton alas. The clubhouse is fine but plenty of pubs in Sutton High St
syd_barrett_saint Posted 22 July, 2010 Posted 22 July, 2010 I'm going :-) Staying with my brother in Streatham, so it's a short train journey from there. Looking forward to it, especially now it seems the 1st team will be playing. Also going to the Barnet game on Tuesday, but drinking with Barnet fans beforehand as I'm meeting up with a mate who's supports them that day. (By the way - I paid the 5 quid to renew my membership on Saintsweb, but I have been downgraded to a Registered User all the same :-/ Sent Saintsweb an email on Monday but no reply yet. Any idea what I should do to be put back to a Full Member again?)
Griffo Posted 22 July, 2010 Posted 22 July, 2010 Going Sutton on Saturday and Barnet Tuesday. Sutton is a 10 minute bus ride so it's probably the most local I will ever get to watch saints.
Master Bates Posted 22 July, 2010 Posted 22 July, 2010 Also going to the Barnet game on Tuesday, but drinking with Barnet fans beforehand as I'm meeting up with a mate who's supports them that day. Who does he support on a Wednesday?

spyinthesky Posted 22 July, 2010 Posted 22 July, 2010 Article in the Pink saying that Paul Doswell, Sutton's Manager and a big Saints fan, is quite matey with AP AP might well end up buying one of Dossie'e executive houses!!
simonsaints1 Posted 22 July, 2010 Posted 22 July, 2010 Am going to Barnet game, then again i do live 5 minutes walk from the ground the smug git i am!
ericofarabia Posted 22 July, 2010 Posted 22 July, 2010 Am going to Barnet game, then again i do live 5 minutes walk from the ground the smug git i am! Yay ... pre and post match p!ss up at Si's
Giordano Posted 23 July, 2010 Posted 23 July, 2010 (edited) Think i will take my kids and sister for a little drive down the road to Sutton to see the new team first time this season. Will be interested to see Butterfield and Dickson (if playing) and I always take great interest in A Trialist. Usually plays quite well whenever i've seen him so will look out for him too! Will prob be behind the goals and will post my version of what happened there the same day... Oops: i mean what happens on the pitch not what happens behind the goals...i doubt " spilled ice cream on shirt of son in clapping accident"...."squashed licorice allsort into backseat of trousers" and "daughter cried when got finger jammed in folding chair mechanism" will be of interest in my match report... Edited 23 July, 2010 by Giordano misleading last para now cleared up.
Rasiak-9- Posted 23 July, 2010 Posted 23 July, 2010 Went to school in Sutton so always felt like going to a game at their little shed of a ground but working so never mind.

But news of whether the Ferrero Rocher choccies melted in the heat or not will be much in demand!!
Giordano Posted 23 July, 2010 Posted 23 July, 2010 My Ferrero Rocher went down very well at Wembley but im not certain they will be necessary for this fixture. Ideally the FR can be brought on whenever the higher level skills and services of the Southampton Diplomats are required. I do not anticipate a need for them at Gander Lane however, as im sure there will be enough saints embassy and consulate staff there to keep matters as they should be.

PMSL I remember your efforts to get the cards done at Heathrow. Hope to see you at the match mate.
ericofarabia Posted 24 July, 2010 Posted 24 July, 2010 Echo says Lallana to play. But what does the "1st port of call for Saints fans and where all the news relating to Saints can be read first" say .... oh bugger all but more importantly it tells you where Suttons Club House Bar is .... which is nice .

SaintRichmond Posted 24 July, 2010 Posted 24 July, 2010 Adam wont be playing as he is still injured. You mean like Dyer ??
Matthew Le God Posted 24 July, 2010 Posted 24 July, 2010 (edited) Adam wont be playing as he is still injured. Then why is he listed in the squad on the OS yesterday? EDIT: I see it is mentioned on Twitter. Edited 24 July, 2010 by Matthew Le God
theyin Posted 24 July, 2010 Posted 24 July, 2010 paint the kitchen - watch the saints - paint the kitchen - watch the saints - paint the kitchen - watch the saints - up the road In Brixton so there really should be no excuse but I know splashing the paint about will stand me in good stead with 'er indoors for more important weekends once the season starts
The Kraken Posted 24 July, 2010 Posted 24 July, 2010 Early team news is that Puncheon hasn't travelled (ankle) and Lallana is still recovering from knee injury . Blimey, do we have any wingers left? Holmes and Oxo to start I guess, which looks a bit lightweight.
Thedelldays Posted 24 July, 2010 Posted 24 July, 2010 quite worried about lallana....pre season is important and he has played no games so far.. dont think AOX-C is there

S-Clarke Posted 24 July, 2010 Posted 24 July, 2010 Line up 4-5-1. Dickson on left of midfield, Holmes and Schneiderlin in middle, Chambo on right with Hammond just behind Lambert that's a bit different...
Matthew Le God Posted 24 July, 2010 Posted 24 July, 2010 Saints Vs Sutton: Davis. Butterfield, Fonte, Jaidi, Harding. Schneiderlin, Holmes, Dickson, Hammond, Oxlade-Chamberlain. Lambert Line up 4-5-1. Dickson on left of midfield, Holmes and Schneiderlin in middle, Chambo on right with Hammond just behind Lambert Subs: Mills, Wotton, McNish, Doble, Martin, Bialkowski, Barnard, Reeves
John B Posted 24 July, 2010 Posted 24 July, 2010 Line up 4-5-1. Dickson on left of midfield, Holmes and Schneiderlin in middle, Chambo on right with Hammond just behind Lambert that's a bit different... With Puncheon and Lallana to come in I like the Formation
itchen_dan Posted 24 July, 2010 Posted 24 July, 2010 It seems to me that Pardew is beginning to favour the 4-5-1 formation again with possibly switching to 4-4-2 late on in games like we did at the start of last season My team for the start of the season would therefore be: -----------------Davis------------------ -Butterfield----Jaidi----Fonte----Harding- -----Schneiderlin---Hammond----------- -Puncheon----Lallana----Dickson/Holmes- ---------------Lambert------------------ But going on todays team, it seems strong but not too sure about the way Holmes and Hammond are positioned? Surely they would be better the other way round, Hammond with Schneiderlin and Holmes behind Lambert? But, CM might suit Holmes more because less sprinting and therefore less injuries
richardc Posted 24 July, 2010 Posted 24 July, 2010 to me this line up just shows how desparetely we are in need of a new centre midfielder - i just cannot see what Holmes would bring to that position - plus Dickson is a left back not a out and out midfielder
ericofarabia Posted 24 July, 2010 Posted 24 July, 2010 No Connolly in the squad ... after sounding super fit on the tour, from reports on here didn't seem at the races in the friendlies he's been involved in since they got back. Looking ominous which woulsd be a major shame as he is probably the most gifted of our players. Are we winning yet?
ericofarabia Posted 24 July, 2010 Posted 24 July, 2010 It's as we thought with the 4-5-1 line up but Holmes is playing on the left, with Dickson in centre mid. #saintsfc 2 minutes ago via TweetDeck So its exactly as they predicted but different then !! Hammo heads ofver from a lambo cross ... role reversal going on here?

I saw him at Farnboro the other night looked fit and played with commitment went off with 10 mins to go but I dont understand where Barnard/ Connolly fit in a 4 5 1

Pilchards Posted 24 July, 2010 Posted 24 July, 2010 I always believe the most important part of a team is the centre pieces, just like a chess board. I have always dominated with my rooks and queen on standby and at the moment IMHO we need to sort ours out with decent backups and not makeshifts like Dickson & Holmes.
ericofarabia Posted 24 July, 2010 Posted 24 July, 2010 The way they worded it makes sense. Apologies for trying to inject some humour into this riveting fred.

Rather not have a dominatrix queen running our midfield thanks But yeh we seem to reverting to the old square pegs in round holes game. No harm in trying different formations out in these friendlies but they do show a bit of a weakness outside the starting XI.
Thedelldays Posted 24 July, 2010 Posted 24 July, 2010 oh dear...losing...another slow start to a season here..lol
CWD Posted 24 July, 2010 Posted 24 July, 2010 Hmmm suddenly the squad does look a little thin, I wouldn't be confident against Plymouth without Richarson, Dickson, Punch and Lallana
ericofarabia Posted 24 July, 2010 Posted 24 July, 2010 LOLAGE ... time to hit The Old Speckled Hen i think
yorkie Posted 24 July, 2010 Posted 24 July, 2010 Sounds like a great warm up! Rather worried that we still have no Adam starting, Puncheon injured and now Dickson! Let's hope they can be fit for the Plymouth game! I guess the new "sash" is going to gain some credit for todays start...Davis didn't recognise his own player - Jaidi!
John B Posted 24 July, 2010 Posted 24 July, 2010 oh dear...losing...another slow start to a season here..lol According to some it does not matter if we lose in Pre Season as long as we are fit but no Puncheon Lallana Dickson and Richardson
Thedelldays Posted 24 July, 2010 Posted 24 July, 2010 According to some it does not matter if we lose in Pre Season as long as we are fit but no Puncheon Lallana Dickson and Richardson indeed...maybe alps was right about the "getting the players in early"....no matter what, there is no excuses this season..
