Massive set-back.....

To be fair he wasn't bad last night, he didn't stick out in the first 20 minutes as being worse than the other players on show. However, I don't agree with Twitter that he was our best player before the injury, to be honest we didn't show much at all in the first 20 minutes, Martin was probably our best player at that point in the game, although the trialist had also got himself noticed (certainly Farnborough's right back noticed him, and seemed to be getting annoyed suggesting that he was going over rather too lightly... (Looked like a headless-chicken with pace, think he needed to settle and relax as he was often out of position, but looks like he might be worth a punt.))

Anyhow, back to Pulis, why should he change career (as some of you have suggested)? I'm sure he is hoping he can pursuade another club to take him on, and why not, afterall he's probably been on a salary of about £45k pa at Saints (c. £750-800 per week), which I wouldn't turn down, especially as it comes with a free gym pass, 24-7 medical benefits, and no real fear of being asked to actually play a competative game. I wouldn't be surprised if he manages to get himself another paid contract at somewhere like Hereford, or perhaps a Conference team, afterall, his dad has connections, and he has Southampton on his CV (oh, and he once graced the skate first team, albeit brought on in the 90th minute, but probably best not mentioning that one to a prospective employer eh... but it still puts it all into perspective, even after 2 years of hanging around Staplewood, Pulis has still played more for the Skates than he has for us).

Your mate might not be the expert he thinks he is. I was working in Lincoln at the time and he did OK for them and was regularly selected until his injury, but maybe Chris Sutton, manager at Sincil Bank, didn't have the benefit of your mate's superior expertise. Lincoln finished the season low in the L2 table, but they were actually higher when Pulis was playing for them, so maybe not as bad at the time as suggested.

Not well enough that they want him in their team though it's not like we wouldn't have let him go. If he'd done that well surely Lincoln would have tried to buy him by now (although no doubt we'd have let him go on a free)? Also several Lincoln fans on 606 where just as dismissive of his talents as a footballer as hatchs lincoln supporting mate.

We signed him when we were still in the CCC I think didn't we? As long ago as 2006, the average wage in the CCC was reportedly just under £200,000 p.a., never mind when we signed him a couple of years after that. Do you actually know his wage? I don't, but it doesn't seem unreasonable to guess it must be somewhere around that £200k per year mark without appearance/win bonuses, given the wage inflation in football. £45k is under the average wage in L2, never mind CCCor L1 -- in 2006 !

Can I just ask....are we all utterly certain that Pulis is rubbish?

I am not sure I've ever seen him play.

Don't get me wrong, I enjoy the joking on here, but are we sure he should be taken to the knackers yard?

Please dont just reply "yes" !

No, you are absolutely right, few of us have seen him play, and all the managers that he has "worked" under, not just AP, clearly are keeping his abilities under wraps until the time is exactly right when he can be unveiled as the new Maradonna and sold to Barcelona for 50m.

There is a reason why we haven't seen him play, and that is because all the professional managers who actually determine these things have all come to the same conclusion, that the lad is not good enough. Even his old man failed to play him, its only his Mum that still believes he can make it, oh and Rupert lowe.

The negative posts about Ant Pulis are mostly by sheep following a lead. Some people may have seen him play but if negative posts were only made by people who had, there would be a lot less of them. This all goes back to the mob mentality when Pulis came here carrying an injury while Portvliet was in charge. If Saint's coaches didn't think he was worth his wages, his contract would have been cancelled but its also worth remembering that not every player in the reserves will make the first team, some are there to help bring on other players.

Its time to lay off Pulis and to trust the judgement of the club staff for as long as they think he has a role.

Come on, he's made under 30 appearances in the whole of his professional career. The only Manager apart from his Dad that's ever signed him is Jan P/Rupert Lowe. He's been on loan 5 times, 3 of which the loans been cut short, the only 2 loans that weren't cut short were Lincolns and one at Plymouth, who was Plymouth's Maanger at the time, one T Pulis. He's a midfield player, but has yet to score a goal in 7 years for 8 different clubs, although I cant believe Daddy didn't make him the Peno taker. We had the same problem with my lads side, the Manager kept picking his son when he clearly wasn't good enough, only difference was it was under 10's and they weren't earning £1000 a week under false pretences. Now I know I've never seen him play, but I'm pretty confident that his record proves if his name wasn't Pulis, he wouldn't have a career in the professional game.

I stand by my prediction that Pulis will make 5 or more appearances this season. Seriously.

How can you be sure that Tescos will get planning permission for that many new stores in the region?

Edit: sorry, cheap 'laugh'....but will keep it in though just in case someone finds it vaguely amusing....

Caught between telling you that this is mean-spirited, and wondering how I can sleep tonight at the sheer devastation this will bring to our season...

you're right Alpine..it does give cause for concern...hope it doesn't affect AP's overall strategy for the coming season .....(wringing of hands and moaning)
