Weston Saint Posted 18 July, 2010 Share Posted 18 July, 2010 Bates was fantastic behind the stumps. Stood up to Woods overs and then to Corks last. Lightening quick takes. We have found a star. Pothas was unwell so Bates drove down from Loughborough at 9am this morning.
saintsdan Posted 18 July, 2010 Share Posted 18 July, 2010 Agreed, thought he was excellent. Any idea what his batting is like?
chrisobee Posted 18 July, 2010 Share Posted 18 July, 2010 (edited) To be fair it was a very good all round performance, excellent batting and fielding and all the bowlers chipping in with a wicket or two. We've heard before from Weston Saint how good Bates is and today he showed that. Though this season has clearly been disappointing with players like Vince, Dawson, Briggs, Bates and Wood coming through there is plenty to look ahead to. I think McKenzie was MOM today which was a fair shout though arguably our best all round team performance all season. chrisobee Posted 19 July, 2010 Share Posted 19 July, 2010 Agreed, thought he was excellent. Any idea what his batting is like? From Cric Info:http://www.cricinfo.com/countycricket2010/content/current/player/351424.html Michael Bates is a highly-rated wicketkeeper-batsman who is expected to establish himself as Nic Pothas' understudy at Hampshire in 2010. Strong on the pull shot, and with Brendon McCullum as a role-model, he furthered his development during the Under-19 World Cup in New Zealand in 2009-10. In 2006, he was awarded the Daily Telegraph Bunbury Scholarship. Cricinfo staff February 2010.
