RonManager Posted 17 July, 2010 Posted 17 July, 2010 http://www.spirefm.co.uk/whites-news.php All the best - maybe time to have a go at the League?
SuperMikey Posted 17 July, 2010 Posted 17 July, 2010 What does the f... that mean? He was implying that he should take up the Director of Football post here at the club. Not a bad shout either!
Victor Posted 20 July, 2010 Posted 20 July, 2010 Big deal Maybe not a "Big Deal" but since it involves one of the best and most loyal players ever to wear the red stripes it is of considerable interest to those of us over 21. Back to your comics.
Wicked Mush Posted 20 July, 2010 Posted 20 July, 2010 Nick Holmes was a Saints legend - nice bloke too.

Back to your comics. Sorry Sonny, Holmes leaving Salisbury is not a big deal. If it is to you then great!

capitalsaint Posted 20 July, 2010 Posted 20 July, 2010 Can't work out what your avatar is supposed to be. Is it racist? League of Gentlemen...
Block 5 Posted 20 July, 2010 Posted 20 July, 2010 Salisbury City are seriously in the mire. Dropped 2 leagues and now NH has left (probably can't afford to pay him). Tommy is still there though.
doughnutman Posted 20 July, 2010 Posted 20 July, 2010 Salisbury City are seriously in the mire. Dropped 2 leagues and now NH has left (probably can't afford to pay him). Tommy is still there though. No he's not. Assistant Manager at Southend with Sturrock
Gordon Mockles Posted 20 July, 2010 Posted 20 July, 2010 Aha, DoF !!!! He would be an excellent Director of Football and ambassador for the club! Couldn't think of anyone better...other than Diego Maradonna (for comic purposes & seeing how he proposed to entertain guests in the Ambassdor's Suite! Actually, he'd probably be banned for his party antics within a week! LOL)
Blandford saint Posted 20 July, 2010 Posted 20 July, 2010 Tommy's not still there - he is now assistant to Paul Sturrock at Southend, who Salisbury are playing in a friendly later this week. Basically, once you've dropped down to this level, they couldn't afford to pay them - we know what it's like. Couldn't really afford to pay them at Conference level, unless a sugar daddy pays the wages, so could hardly do it now. This is what happens when a sugar daddy withdraws his interest.
Cricketphilly Posted 20 July, 2010 Posted 20 July, 2010 Little known fact, he's Lee Holme's Dad! True.
Block 5 Posted 20 July, 2010 Posted 20 July, 2010 Oh dear. Salisbury are even deeper in the poo than I thought.
Castro 1 Posted 20 July, 2010 Posted 20 July, 2010 I remember going to see Salisbury play Millwall in the FA cup at the Dell - That was an interesting day!!
sidthesquid Posted 20 July, 2010 Posted 20 July, 2010 I remember going to see Salisbury play Millwall in the FA cup at the Dell - That was an interesting day!! Quite scary too
corsacar saint Posted 20 July, 2010 Posted 20 July, 2010 I went to the -Salisbury -Millwall game as well,no where near as intimidating as the 2-2 league draw with Millwall in 1987,with F Troop all at the -Archers Road end with there balaclavas[every single one of them]. Coming back to the thread are there any positions at-St Marys that are left, that would suit Nick Holmes[is a D.O.F still likely?]
saintedwill Posted 21 July, 2010 Posted 21 July, 2010 I doubt he's got the connections to be a DoF for us, but he's still a great coach and work well with one of the youth sides.
saints triumph Posted 21 July, 2010 Posted 21 July, 2010 Salisbury City are seriously in the mire. Dropped 2 leagues and now NH has left (probably can't afford to pay him). Tommy is still there though. Oh no hes not gone to south end
saints triumph Posted 21 July, 2010 Posted 21 July, 2010 Oh no hes not gone to south end Missed the boat there
ericofarabia Posted 21 July, 2010 Posted 21 July, 2010 Sorry Sonny, Holmes leaving Salisbury is not a big deal. If it is to you then great! Nick Holmes has only been surpassed by MLT, Mick Channon and Terry Paine in the number of appearances made for Southampton FC. He was a member of the 1976 FA Cup winning team, played in every single league game in the 83/84 season when we finished 2nd and all 8 Cup games that season which included an FA Cup run which saw us lose out to Everton in the semi finals and is an all round top bloke and perfect unassuming gentleman to boot. So yes, news regarding one of our greatest ever servants is of interest to some of us. If it isn't to you, that's your loss.

PLUS ..you might also have mentioned that Nick is one (if not only) So'ton born players to have the post of team captain - for a number of seasons -during his career. He also had the ability to play different roles and played in at least 4 diff. postional roles in his one-club career - with Saints. 1973-1987 I think it is of interest - YES!
david in sweden Posted 21 July, 2010 Posted 21 July, 2010 What does the f... that mean? it means ...SOCCER !

He also set the bench mark for Beckham in scoring from the halfway line V Watford in The League Cup as we romped home to a 5-0 victory, (shame there doesn't appear to be any footage available). ...... for the sake of my sanity all recollections of the 2nd leg at Vicarage Road have been erased from my memory banks!!!
theyin Posted 21 July, 2010 Posted 21 July, 2010 doesn't a requirement of a DoF need to be a contacts book throughout the game that can help attract players to the club? I fail to see how someone, however much a Saints legend, will have attained the contacts needed at our level when he's been operating at non league level for donkey's years

Dave Puckett hads been in that job for some years, and Doddsy is coaching the Academy, would be good to have a new generation of Golden Oldies. WE (who recall Paine davies and Channon ..are in many cases approaching "pensiondom" , why not let's have some local hereos.
Victor Posted 21 July, 2010 Posted 21 July, 2010 Little known fact, he's Lee Holme's Dad! True. I believe this to be either complete and utter ******** or so little-known that his mother has not told Nick yet. (assuming you meant " Lee Holmes' dad ")
